will the bios 1201 solve the double boot issue? I am still at bios 506 i am planning to upgrade my bios maybe this weekend and play with my system. All are running stock at the moment but planning to do some tweaking and overclocking

I am running Bios 1201 downloaded it from the FTP site ...... not Beta either, but i am wonder WTF? why it was official release page and not now.. then was.. now not again... makes me scared......

As for double boot issue it is still there ... hit power button and then it comes on and then goes of like a restart is and then back on to load up windows or what have you.

Bios is working just as good as 1103, but many others are having better OC's now on 1201, i never tried anything over 3.6ghz on CPU yet..... so i can't attest to that conclusion.

No doubt 1201 Smokes the 506 bios.... upgrade to it.

That double boot is supposed to happen I thought. It happens to me but only when I change specific settings or remove the power to the board.

Happens to me with my P5Q-E, sometimes it will boot straight up after changing BIOS settings, other times it will power off then boot up.

Yeah same here if i change certain settings or remove power cord or turn PC off and then on again in morning.

I usually shut PC down for the night.

I should of also stated that even when i had other Asus Mobo's they did the samething and its suppose to do so as it is the OC Failure Feature.

This is what I noticed just now ... clear the cmos and leave it auto, no double post .... tried manually setting my RAM and double post again is this something to do with my mems? still bios 506...cant find my thumb drive ( maybe my wife has it ) and have no floppy to flash to 1201 but i am almost convince to try 1201

Its the "Your OverClock Failure Safety Feature" .. trust me it is as i asked Asus this before and thats what it is for and has been doing this for many mobo's from them since about 3-4 years now.

Yes Auto Default there is no double post as no settings have been changed to allow the OC Failure feature to activate.

Now as for a floppy you can't use it anyway as the new bioes even your old one is 2mb when unzipped and standard floppy is 1.44mb.

I don't think it's the board failing to boot and going back to defaults, I think it's the board needing to power off in order to change some settings.

When the overclock fails the board does something completely different.

It allows the OC failure to activate as if the OC failed from settings being changed the second Post will then display the "your overclock failed message" hit F1 to go to setup and change settings.

Its just a feature to check for OC failure is all, but if you out of settings to much .. system will not post at all and CMOS needs to be cleared then.

wow! I never thought that people here in XS are that fast in replying In other forums, it will take days sometimes weeks for somebody to reply in your post I am back reading already and seems like I am really keeping this P5Q. Previously I am in the edge already of letting this board go and buy maximus 2 but while doing some search, I found this link which make me think that our board is better than the maximus 2

It won't give the error unless it thinks it will not boot at the settings you set .. the double boot post will always happen when you edit certain bios settings ... to just check if it is a OC failure setting of what you picked fro settings.

Now if system did not boot and your monitor light flashes only .. then shut machine down and wait about 30 secs and boot up again .. it will also double post and give you the OC failure error.

Its just a built in feature Asus did in Bioes since about 3-4 years ago on many mobo's they made/make.

Its not a thing that is wrong or a fudged up thing its doing.... its a safety feature is all and there is no way to turn it off .. only Asus can do that by removing the boot block info for it.

Do you have the 4 pin or 8 pin Mobo Connector plugged in?

Its to the left/above the CPU socket?

I have a 8 pin connector to, 4 pin is OK, 8 pin better for more stability.

Also did you try and clear the CMOS?

Hmm windows Vista does not need driver at installing time and its weird the updates will corrupt raid unless it is not a proper driver.

Make sure to note what driver update it was and don't install it again and if you can find out what it is can you post it here so others don't download it.

As for you raid being toasts i would say so ... thats its corrupted now ... use Bart PE and backup what you need .. and format and reinstall OS all over again.

Was running 901 bios, reinstalled with 1201 and it kept hanging, even in IDE mode

Flashed to 803 and worked right off Hmmm Haven't pinned it down, too many variables

BeastNotro plz how many posts are you gonna do on this matter, I lost count already... Asus seems to have some server issues and it's not only with the P5Q dlx mobo's...don't you think it's weird that they post a bios, then pull it and a few hours it's back and so on... if it has issues it will be pulled, not reappear half an hour later and dissapear again into the void, pop up,...

If anyone thinks official biosses are bulletproof you could be in for a nasty surprise sometimes. As mostly they hardly differ from the alpha or beta biosses... with every bios flash you take a risk of smoking ya board... that's why this general rule counts : If it ain't broke don't fix it !! and if you want to flash but are doubtfull if it will improve anything : ask in a forum first before flashing... and await not one reply but several before doing anything...

Second thing plz use the EDIT button if you are gonna add something a minute later to your previous post... if you continue at this rate this thread will explode and become practically impossible to follow up... also if you reply to a few people at the same moment plz use the MULTIQUOTE option and don't do it in consecutive posts... I'm happy you want to share experiences and help out but do it in the correct way then plz...there are some guidelines on how to use this forum...

Think it's more for strap changes then just an OC failure feature, it's not just asus, other brands have this double boot syndrom too... And if you get a non post, just switch off the PSU, wait a few secs and fire her up... it will recover then... and my Asus strikers don't have this double boot thingy...

I am having some trouble with bios 0803. When it fails to boot when I am trying to overclock the ram past 1200 MHz, I have to switch off the PSU when the system is running, as it becomes non-responsive to holding in the power button.

When I turn it back on, the bios is cleared as if I used clear cmos function.

Bios 0610 would always allow me to turn it off with the power button and on rebooting it would give me the overclock failed message, and the bios still had all the setting changes I had made.

Bios 1103 was also causing me this issue, when trying to push the ram past 1200 MHz on any strap.

I still cannot get past 1200 MHz on this board, 1200 is rock stable, 1201 MHz will not boot. This is using any strap. This issue is really annoying me.

Is anyone getting some good results with bios 1201?
