    2x2GB A-Data DDR3-1600 Extreme X

    Saw this pair of memory on MemoryC over the weekends, and thought it's cheap enough and apparently are very overclockable, if review sites are to be believed.

    According to the product page over at A-DATA;

    "Specially targeted for extreme overclocking enthusiasts!!! The X series is built with Micron original IC that delivers outstanding performance, rock-solid stability and high compatibility. "
    Link

    "built with Micron original IC"... Yeah, right.

    Those are Samsung manufactured chips the last time I checked. Product not as advertised?

    The PCB is 6-layers;

    Last picture shows the aluminum heat spreader was flimsily attached, only making contact with the bottom edge of the chips, so it was easily lifted off to reveal the innards.

    Anyway, if you're not put off by the Samsung manufactured chips, I'll be putting up some quick benches and overclocks when my Rampage Extreme arrives later today.

    It's not the first time when Adata lies about ICs. The same situation was in DDR2 (Adata Extreme PC6400 2x1 GB and PC8500 2x1 GB), officially they should be based on Micron D9 GCT/GMH (according to S/N on Adata website) and people were buying it but it didn't overclock like Micron and after taking off heatspreaders, there was Promos on them.

    I got the same kit today.
    The supplier told me that these Samsung ICs are highly overclockable.
    I will test them on an NF790I Ultra Sli.

    The supplier also has the same kit guaranteed with Micron ICs (D9JNL/JNM)

    Mhm yeah the salesguy who got his percentage from selling a phenom 9500 to my neighbour also said it was 'just as fast as intel' know what I mean

    OP, I would take the kit back, but on the other hand you can only know their not micron if you removed the hs ( like you did ) and that afaik voids their warranty?

    It is known that a-data moved to Samsung ICs..look into the A-Data OC Forum - and no I havn't removed the hs.
    I will not take them back why should I?..Samsung ICs are also used on 2000+ Modules.

    I"ll give them a try.

    Well they are wrongly advertised I even thought that was the point of this thread for a moment... nm I'm looking forward to see what you can do with them regardless.

    Well the website of A-Data ist outdated. The admin in the A-Data Oc Forum forum stated that they going to use Samsung ICs.
    So I asked my supplier why he offers to kits one for 219 euros and one for 270euros...he told me that the one kit uses Microns Brand ICs the other will use Samsung.
    I knew before I bought them what I'll get.

    Idk but if I were anyone involved with Adata I would make sure their products on the site are the same as in retail, just preventing any issues which might arrise if someone doesn't like what he gets.

    I'm looking forward to see if you skimped on 50e for something good or not

    Well I just sent a few mails to A-DATA Europe and Taiwan HQ, but probably wont get a reply
    I'll see how they run anyway, just wanted to point out they are not what was advertised.
    As in the last picture you can see only very little of the thermal tape was actually touching the ICs, so it kinda "fell" open... I should be able to get a refund on that point alone!

    And I didn't. And not everyone visits the A-Data forum, didn't even know one existed. Outdated product page argument is just laughable.. every company can use that excuse to sell whatever they want then. So as far as I'm concerned the product was not as advertised.

    Playing the devils advocate, it does not matter what where the case before you took them off, as when there had been a visible defect what you would have been told to do was rma the sticks as is.

    Not playing devils advocate, good luck

    Oh dear..

    I reached 1800 CL-8-8-8-24-CR1 P1: Enabeld and P2: Enabled with stockvoltage. I will post some Screen when I get rid of the NF790i..is different from Maximus II and Rampage..

    Hope I can push the RAM and CPU to its Limits.

    I run Blend-Test for about 1h.
    Here is a screen:

    Running now 1900 CL-8-8-8-24-1T :-)
