First, George is a very busy man. He's got a business to take care of, so keep that in mind when asking about updates every week. If he would've had the time to complete this monster yet, I'm sure he would've done so.
Second, this PSU isn't only about raw power. It's about the power quality. This thing is going to be a linear design, if I remember correctly. That means that it will be quite inefficient on the one hand, but on the other hand (and that's what it's all about here) the delievered power will be cleaner than with any other PSU. It's ripple should be nearly unmatchable.
If it takes another 5 years for its completion, I don't care. This thing will be unique even then. And you sure won't need more power than this thing is going to be capeable of delievering, even in 5 years.![]()

It's all okay taking time, perfection does take time. The problem with 5 years is that it could all change. ATX could be scrapped, more and more things are powered off 12 V (and then converted on the board), 3,3 V is almost unused these days... So he could have done almost half the work for nothing.

Alot of people now adays worry about power consumption when they buy parts (power bills can be awith a high powered comp folding 24/7, ya know?), and these die shrinks keep bringing down power consumption right? I doubt this thing will ever be "regular"... but I could be wrong.

thenagain the graphics market is about a bzillion times as competitive as the processor market. While the theme of the processor market seems to be get new die shrink out every other day, the theme of the graphics market is less focused on shrinking die, concentrating on easier performance jumps, like slapping multiple dies on one card, scalable interfaces for multi-card systems etc, which all equates to increased power consumption. i mean, if you want the best graphics setup today you need either SLI'd large die gtx-280s or xfired 4870x2 (who arent so scalable now but will be with matured drivers) and either you need huge power supply for huge power consumption. so, uh, yeah, wattage isn't going out of style anytime soon...

higher wattage is nice, but there are building codes and standards that limit things.
Where i live (canada) the outlet is 110 volts and the building code for all homes specified 15 amps max for an outlet. That gives a maximum wattage of 1650 watts.
Above that and the house is required to have circuit breakers that trip if the draw is too great.
At my job when i plugged two devices using 1200 watts into the same outlet once and the breaker tripped.
So any device can't draw more than 1650 watts from a standard outlet. While it is possible to rewire a house for higher current (grow operations do it all the time...) most people don't expect they need to do so for their household electronics.
At my job my boss eventually had to call an electrician to lay down extra wires through the floor to handle the extra current. (we really needed those machines running)
As most people aren't willing to go this far, simple marketing dictates that if a computer needs a house to be modded, chances are most people aren't going to go through the trouble, and sales will be crap.
I could be wrong though. Things might be different in other parts of the world. I think EU has access to higher wattages for their outlets. And maybe people are perfectly willing to call an electrician to rewire their home and make arrangements with the local utility to provide them with higher watage service if their power lines/local transformer box can't handle it.
Servers routinely use multi-kilowatts of power. Maybe its about time homes are upgraded for that service.

Here in Slovenia at least, we have 220-250 V (at 50 Hz) and the normal fuse for a room is a 16 A one. That gives you 4 kW of power. Then a triple phase is a totaly normal thing for us. Dunno on the amperages, but it's got 400 V of juice.
