OVERCLOCKERS MAG..http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=197660
what i tried this time failed orthos after just over 30 min though this shot was from when i first started it in case it froxe on me but ran for 30.xx min then failed with a rounding error.. im upping the vid now to 1.29 try again.. then 1.3 i dont want to go to much higher than maybe 1.32 or so though. this right now will do everything i encoded a dvd etc and it ran fine but i know its not prime/orthos stable at this point but seems to run everything ok, tried crysis etc everything ran perfectly..core 0 stays around 65-67 (not sure how right that is since it barely moves once it hits 60 it jumps to a spot and stays there till it drops like 5 or more deg) core 0 maxes it seems at about 64-65 and stays there
this q817 runs MUCH HOTTER than the q805 i had before.. but that chip at stock speeds would not pass orthos even with just standard ram..

well for now this seems stable for me im going to bed and letting it run overnight then ill up the fsb some more tomm. once i get that stable im going to a lower multi and try to up the fsb more for the same overclock.. we'll see everyone complained about the q817's so far this seems like a really nice chip i know i can boot at 4.3 and do all tasks including encoding on air since ive tried that but it failed prime. i was also running 4.3 at 2.89 volts thoughso im thinking at 1.32-1.33 ill bet i can prime at 4.2 or maybe a bit more on air.. not bad right???
this is also without the ac running btw we have all the windows open right now since we just had a real nice rain the house is prob right at 80 or so id guess with a slight breeze. we normally keep the ac on 76..
nb for me right now is just at the mark under 1.39 (forget the exact number) but this q817 seems to just keep going now that i got it setup right.. its still priming while i type this.. ill check it tomm when i get up but if i can get to 4.3 or just under on good air ill be more than happy and maybe 4.1 24/7 (or better lol)

so how do my results compare so far?? i have not totally followed this whole thread?? this a pretty decent chip so far?? i was thinking about trying another one but this seems like a nice chip to settle on for a 24/7 machine so far MAX temps ive seen just barely hit 72 for a second they are staying at or under 70 running orthos WHILE i tried encoding a dvd and it actually ran lol.. i was pretty shocked it ran.. not sure if the dvd will play though lol.. i restarted orthos though shown in my above result..
what would be the max vid for 24/7 recc for this e8500??? should i keep it at the 4.1 for every day use since it seems comfortable there or think i can go higher.. will i really see any difference between 4.1 and 4.3 for 24/7 use and games.. im not going to water or anything just a good cooler. im going to pick up another coolor though this xig has a issue with the base where the heatpipes are not totally tight enough if i try i can move the base and either sink in the heatpipes a bit or make them come out some i had to play with it to get it flat with the razor before re-seating it..
or would it more worth it to drop the cpu voltage back down to the 1.26 and run it at 4.017 24/7 it seems like a aweful big jump to go from the 1.26 up to 1.31 for only 100mhz???

Z your temps are a bit high ... but the OC is about AVG i would say on what everyone is getting without crazy good cooling ...
so its a decent chip then right?? worth hunting another one down?? with the e8500 down to 195 its tempting but i dont think i can do much more on air.
is anyone around doing a lot more than this on air with the e8400 or e8500??
its still running orthos as i type and temps are still the same just under 70deg.. so its holding steady 100% with it mostly at 67 on core 0 and 64-65 on core 1 for most of the run so far
yeah i know i need a different cooler this 1283 has a issue with the base coming loose from the pipes. im gonna order something new anyway and i know for sure that will bring them down a bit.. this machine will never be under 100% for a long period of time anyway unless its running prime or something..
im sure it has more to go but im not sure another 100mhz is worth it.. ?? at the 4.1 its very comfortable or course better would be nice

eh thats about all you can get on air ... with decent temps ... i got my E8400 to 4GHz on 1.33v ... and my temps idle at 44c and load at 55c and thats as high as i want to see my temps ... thinking about WCing just to lower the temps
wow your max is 55c here i am hitting near 70c is that safe?? my temps dont go much lower at 4.0 maybe only 2-3c but not much more one thing i miss about the chip i had to send back.. idle read 32c ... that was sweet
only thing is core 0 always is almost 10c higher than core 1 at idle.. ive tried different heatsink and reseating it.. didnt help?? anyone else have this issue.
not running prime or orthos i max at about 56-58c when encoding a dvd with convertxtodvd and i see around 90+ uasage on core 0 and over 70 most of the time on core 1
im still running orthos at just a hair under 70c (65-69) does anyone think another e8400/8500 would be worth a try or would i not really gain anything on air over this one??

how did you get realtemp 2.69? i thought the latest was 2.6?
maybe thats why if its a beta?

man your temps are still way better than mine are you were at 4300 with 72c correct.. im seeing that with only 4100 this chip is crazy hot. even at stock speeds im seeing near 60c+ w/ 100% cpu
yeah i mean i can do 1.26v STABLE orthos and prime both pass at 4.017 and its only maybe 3c cooler than this at 1.31v with 4.1 anything over that 4.017 and i need 1.28 then once i hit 4.1 i need 1.31 i have not tried 1.3 yet though.. i just think either sensor problem or its way to hot of a chip
for it to do 1.26 @ 4.0 seems like a pretty good chip to me minus the temps. tomm once orthos runs all night im gonna see what is needed for 4.2+ i was able to run 4.2 with only 1.32x v but didnt test it for stability but the temps didnt seem to go up at all with the extra voltage..
just sucks my last chip idled at 32c this one is like 43-44c at idle
ariciu you are doing 4500 @ 1.39 with the xigmatek??? and your temps are 72c?? im at 4100 with basically the same temps??

i could prob cook eggs on my ati 4850's... lol they literally almost burn your fingers if you touch them and my cpu heatsink under load is barely warm to the touch the base by the heatpipes is a bit warm but no where near what 70c should feel like when you touch it.. its just a bit warmer than maybe room temperature??

No. 4500Mhz was with my old TRU. It was reaching around 74-77C per core and could only do OCCT for like 20 mins max. Then it would error because of the too high temps. With the Xigmatek i get only 5 minutes of OCCT at 4500Mhz because it jumps right up to 77C.
Mine does 4000 with only 1.21v and it gets to around 55C per core. At stock voltage (1.19) and stock MHZ i get around 51C per core. This is using Prime95 by the way.
After 1.3v mine also jumps in the 70-73C area. I don't think 4100mhz vs 4300mhz would cause that. We are both running about the same voltage (1.32v) and getting the same temps so i don't think my extra 200Mhz means i should be getting a higher temp then you are, at the same voltage.

Same here. The Xigmatek's and TRU's heatpipes were barely worm to the touch. Nothing like what 70C should feel like. My 4870 burns compared to those. I think that's normal though... i did like 3 mounts already so it's definately not a bad mount here.
What is your VID by the way? Mine is 1.1875v.

same here 1.1875v i just added a second fan to the 1283 ill see how that helps i also just mounted a fan to the backside of the cpu socket on my case..

How did you get another fan on the Xigmatek? Any pictures? Lemme know if it improves temps plz.

yep 3-4c so far.. not great but not bad. i used a yate loon and a rigged mount for now. im going to make some wire mounts today to fit in the sinks holes on top.. not bad im steady at 67c now for orthos.. ill see when i get up how it is then..idle temps are now 39c instead of 45c+ though and core 0 has actually moved below 49.. lol
