You don't always need such "high end" tools - just be creative, even with "just" a dremel and some other stuff you can make really nice mods to any case!! :-)

I hope that all the parts will be here today, well, except some small parts, and I think I got some free time today and will start building...but I'm not 100% sure of what "concept" to go with my case, but I think I'll decide on that once I've started building!!

Thanks inonefly, that's good to know Mate. I make no bones that I place aesthetics at the top of my priority list. That being said, I certainly never want to do so at the expense of performance. While I really enjoy reading about the efforts of those that squeeze every last drop of efficiency or maximization out of a system, it's just not my thing. I fancy myself more the artistic type than the Engineer I guess. I know there are some out there that are both, but we know how rare a breed they are. While I'm an unashamed perfectionist with visual details, I still have a ways to go in other areas.

pure|murderbox render looks great, but I don't think it's a good idea. External optical + usb hub are going to look much worse than any internal solution. Sacrifice rig look in order to get a nicer box? I don't like it...
How about a slot load optical just over the logo?
And usb hub under the logo, if fits?

My thoughts exactly. A slot-loading drive could be mounted in any orientation, vertical i need be. Keeps the look clean too.

I didn't even think about that. That is an awesome idea. Worth some consideration/research, Charles, IMHO. I have a Dell XPS M1330 with a slot load drive, and that alone was one of the major determining factors between that laptop and many others. It's a great feature. Perhaps they'll become more commonplace as more people buy them. And who better than Charles to show the world how useful thay can be? Nobody. (period)

from what I have heard they had to change suppliers for some of the parts and that put them back around 2 weeks....it may open sooner but

I for one cannot wait - I have set murdermod.com as my homepage so everytime I open the net I can check if it has been updated

I completely agree.

This is something that's been bothering me too. In recent discussions with Nils, it was his idea to incorporate a laptop slot loading drive into the lines. Like Gab says and a few people have already done, there's an adapter card available to make it work in a PC.

While working on the visual concept it became apparent that in this case, two were better than one.
