Which motherboard have you tried your Opty in?
Something is not right, even the F2 Opty go to at least
2500Mhz. I might have a picture of mine with the stepping,
will update this post if found. Let me know when you got
the hardware ready and we'll try to clock that sucker up

I was using the AM2 motherboard in my signature. It's not an enthusiast motherboard so I don't really think it's meant for great overclocking. I don't know if that was the problem.
    Ok will do.

Is this the board you have?
Doesn't look that bad, better than my "infinity".

    EDIT**
    quick check list:

-all 3 power connectors are connected
-RAM set to 533 or 400 DDR (Cas2)
    -HT link x3

    post your power supply type
(I am supraised you're not using GB's Odin GT, it's actually pretty good)
No need to rush, I am pretty lazy and might not reply fast, keep that in mind

    Yes that's the motherboard.
Interesting thread that thanks. I don't know the part number or batch of mine as it's currently installed in a server machine. I will try to find out when I get a chance. It's an F3 like yours. That means it's a CZ.
Having read these threads it does seem as though it should have gone higher. Even if it's a bad one it should overclock higher than 2050Mhz.

All the components I use are in my signature.
    What is GB's Odin GT???
Don't worry about reply speeds. It might take a while for me to have another go as the opteron is in another machine that is in use.
I think that I have more than enough to start with. I'll let you know when I have news.

Thanks for your help so far.

When you get around to it try setting the cpu multy to
7 or 5 and see how far the HTT (FSB) goes.
If it goes high up then the cpu is at fault,if it doesn't
then something else is not right.
I know you have a phenom and it's a lot more fun to play with,
    well for me anyways.

    939 opty 180 2.9

Got my opteron 180 up to 2.9Ghz on stock air cooler for a brief 30 seconds ORTHOS stable. I didn't want to put much more voltage into it since cooling is stock... Could probably do 3.0 on a good air cooler and some more voltage As far as stepping is concerned, I'm not sure what it is, and don't have any thermal paste to replace if I remove the HSF.
