Hey thanks for the help. That get's it booting with an FSB of 400 and DDR800. I have tweaked it a little, Vcore is now 1.325V and it seems I might be able to get it lower. This gives me a good starting point. Temps are good, during Prime95 (four instances) my hottest core is 52C and my coolest is 43C. So it seems I have plenty of play room left, but I think I'm satisfied with what I have now. Maybe just tune a few things to get RAM latency down a little. Possibly try to find lowest stable Vcore.

Soz mate my signature isn't updated everytime I test something... 0704 is one of the better biosses without some of the bugs we experience right now...

1001 is in evaluation but it needs some polishing up... and plz guys if pmp doesn't post a new Beta bios plz ignore any other alpha links for your own good. If he doesn't think it's suitable like eg with 0901; you flash on ya own responsability...

I till now didn't encounter any instability with my current hardware... 0803 needed some slight alterations here to be stable... and ditch ya old profiles if ya had any... it's always better to start from scratch...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

As it is here it fails prime in about 15mins , with looser ram timings 5-5-5-18 it lasted 30mins previously. What areas do you guys reckon i should tweak ? Clock skews, GTL's and CPl look like obvious ones.

Concentrate on the GTL's for a while.

    Try these plz

    DRAM Static Read Control: Disabled

CPU Voltage: 1.45 = not good for 24/7 mate surely not with LLC enabled, on the way to fry ya CPU : do you need 1.45 for 4ghz ? bummer
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): AUTO
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): AUTO
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.56
    FSB Termination Voltage: 1.26
DRAM Voltage: 2.1 = corresponds to about 2.2volts does your ram need 2.2 volts for 800mhz ops : nah not really
    NB Voltage: 1.26
    NB GTL Reference: AUTO
    SBridge Voltage: AUTO
    PCIE SATA Voltage: AUTO

first do a prime small FFT's for CPU stabilty, tweak ram later... blend with either one of the two not okay will never pass...

Nah I think the high vcore is masking something else up . I was running ram at 2.0v all auto (5-5-5-18) , just tried tighter in case it liked it .

I will try the rest and report back.

Nup , it failed in less than a minute , I did lower vcore a bit too - 1.425v , 1.41 real loaded . It was stable at 1.38v real loaded on an x380dq6 .

Its lasting now with vcore back up to 1.45 but this is just for that one core , the others keep going with much less juice.

Leave the NB GTL @ AUTO, but I couldn't get stability no matter what I tried with the CPU GTL's @ AUTO, so definitely give them some values. Mine found 24/7 stability around 0.67 .. cores 1/3 needed to be @ 0.675, cores 0/2 needed 0.670 ... now it's fulltime stable.

Also, check that vCore. 1.45v - way too high IMO! I'm @ 1.3625v for 3.8Ghz 24/7 Stable (On air).

I've just put two WD 160GB hdds using Drive Xpert as "Super Speed" (Raid0?) is this slower/faster or the same as using the intel/red sata ports on the mobo?

It's slower than the Intel RAID from the tests I've seen.

k The latest 1001 alpha has been leaked on a german forum... if you flash do it, do it at your own risk... still too many bugs to be dealt with...so don't come in and flame about it...., sigh....

Raid0 is two drives acting as one. That = faster yes. Exspacialy in Vista from my own expierience with Vista. Her are my settings for my 3.8GHz Primestable setup. Advice shoot away,, I think my cpu temp is all screwy with this bios now by the way. It says 50 in the bios but, 40 in real temp "idle".

Sure they get it for testing like me, and just post it, result again some users with maybe borked boards, people that moan that some issues still persist, some with OC'ing probs, some will be happy some will be not...not at all... find it all a bit sad, the guy doesn't even own the mobo and clocks his Q9550 at a pittyfull 2.8ghz... better buy a PS3 then...

But the folks that receive alfa bios to test can post them and continue as a tester ?

you are allowed to post them for download after approval of the bios department (if they didn't post it before you lol)... they gather all the feedback... for me it's an isolated case as I only got this hardware to work with... eg some ram may be fab, other rams might s*ck... it's up to Asus to release it or not... not my call at all...

Well if he owned the mobo he would know or at least have seen some of the limitations... same with 0901 bios here that was posted... some lads just want to be the one that has posted the bios first... not thinking about the consequences at all...pretty sad to me... I have no probs with betas but alphas soz no....

This motherboard is alot more stable and solid then the EX38-DQ6 I had.. I would lose my overclocks all the time.. I hated that so much.

I get some odd behavior with usb ports. So far I noticed this during priming, since that's all what managed to do for extended period of time. While it primes usb ports power off for like 5-10 seconds and then power on back on. Prime does not fail.
