uhh lol i just redid the bios on my 4870, took me about 30 seconds, fixed the fan speed issue now my card loads at 55C and it isn't really all that loud either

techpowerup radeon bios 1.11 editor works wonders on the fan speeds of this card, so simple and as easy as a reboot to impliment

im not talking about people that post here... most "normal" people dont even know to how to install drivers. And you expect them to dl a extra tool make a bios dump, edit the dump, and reflash the edited bios?

heh its funny to see you guys get so defensive, especially after talking so much trash about gtx280.

more great new results are coming in:

    Any new information?

Got 4 dead here, as well.

To fuel the fire and speculation, both sets we have died in Crossfire mode. (may be a trend from the looks of it)
    lol at all 4 dying.

At least 22 GTX280's confirmed failing due to heat according to the poll at Nvnews.

Over at [H] I've seen at least 2 people have theirs overheat and fail. Some 280's have a defect which causes them to go past 110 degrees and shut down, some of them die completely.

No company is immune to failures.

edit - the 4870X2 is going to be heat challenged as well

    found one here too
It looks like Nvidia is shaving it pretty close, as far as GTX280 GPU is binning is concerned. I say this because my GTX280 just died! - after less than an hour of 3DMark06 looped testing. And this was on my open test jig, with max air cooling (fan duty cycle was set to 70%).
