This is indeed my next mobo. I'm glad I did not buy the P5Q Deluxe yet.

I wonder why Expressgate is not incorporated in this mobo? I guess it would make this mobo more costly.

Cool. Is Probe wrong, or is your VTT and NB really 1.6v, and PLL 1.8? If so, are those on auto?

the nb is actually set to 1.6 but those others I believe are still on auto, I figured with all the crazy heatsinks on the board the NB could go higher than i had on the IP 35pro

anyone with suggestion feel free to through them out, compared to most on this forum I am probably the "newbiest" when it comes to playing with all these bios settings

I'm just trying to get an idea of whether those voltages are linked at auto or not. You might want to set the vtt and pll lower manually, because you shouldn't need that much juice on those with that 468fsb.

i'll probably just clock it back down to 450 fsb (4050mhz) im looking to get new ram in the next couple weeks and i think thats probably my biggest hang up.

any recomendation for a 4gb kit thats in a two stick config?

heres another weird one for you, when i have the asus probe running every now and again i get alarms for wierd voltage spikes. like just a minute ago it said my vtt cpu was at 13v early my ram aparently spiked to 18v. im thinking its just an error in the bios. but odd none the less

I may be wrong but I thought this chipset was on a new 65nm die...meaning vnb as high as 1.6 may damage the board...from what I read in other threads, people don't really need to go over 1.45 to achieve really good clocks with P45.

i'll be working on it more tonight, i had the nb voltage set at 1.6 since that is what i was sitting near with the p35, and that was clocked at 450fsb. the bios color codes the voltages to match the leds on the board, 1.6 is actually treated as a moderate voltage increase ( yellow) whereas if i go to 1.7 or near there it turns red ( crazy) im still looking for a good guide to explain some of the more unique ram features of this board.

yea Ace i would also like to know the max allowed NB's here.

one thing i DO know is that at 1.6vTT 45nm cpus die. 1.7+ pll is also dangeorus.

when i clocked with my asus board, High Nb volts, VTT and FSB get auto'd to extremely high volts, its better to manually set them

    stay in

    1.5 range MAX for vfsb
    and 1.6 max'ish for PLL

    just to be safe

I think 1.5 VTT is too high too...I never go higher than 1.4...even that is only for benching short runs...generally, I keep my vtt between 1.2-1.35 just to be safe...you can easily achieve 4+ghz on Wolfdales with 1.3 vtt and 1.5-1.6 pll...these weird voltage issues with the Maximus II should get cleared up with BIOS updates...the P5Q Deluxe had issues too but BIOS revisions fixed them....I'm running that board now and I should have the Maximus II on Monday for my new air-cooling system.

That being said, I don't think we will be seeing a better or more fun to play with P45 board...I'm hoping DFI comes out with a new BIOS soon, as their BIOSes require too much work right now (I'm gonna be spending a lot of time on the phase build with DFI DDR3 X48 board soon).

Mods should rename this thread to the official Maximus II thread

    yea that is true

but im talking max 1.6 and 1.5 to reach high clocks, for 24/7 i would do 1.4 on pll and keep it below 1.33 VTT

    You know your volts ace

I don't know if you guys caught the price for OEM E8500s on Newegg but they're $219 right now...nice little combo with this board TBH...I plan on putting the Maximus II under phase soon after doing my regular air-cooling tests before it goes into my new system permanently...I'm hoping it lives up (I know it will).

I also just realized that the soundcard has all of it's functionality on the actual card now...in the past, the digital outputs were still on the backplane of the motherboard...with everything on the card, that means you can use it in other motherboards which is awesome because of the EAX support!

$270 is not a bad price at all...the soundcard portability is alone worth at least $50-$75. I'm wondering whether or not the card actually uses Creative hardware (DSP) or is it just Creative software like they do with laptops as an upgrade..can anyone comment on the quality of those Creative drivers used on 3rd party DSPs for gaming?

in trying to lower that pll voltage the lowest is 1.5 so perhaps on this board its not so bad at that level

I'll never get over how much price gouging goes on in AU by the distries/suppliers

They want over $400AU for this board,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they've gotta be kidding
lots and lots of cores and lots and lots of tuners,HTPC's boards,cases,HDD's,vga's,DDR1&2&3 etc etc all powered by Corsair PSU's

theres a 604 bios now and it changes things all over the place, it adds a skew setting for the NB and CPU and changes the GTL references from percentages to mV. so confusing, atleast for me
