I have tried almost all combinations of 1, 2 and 4 dimms installed. I have tried 2 dimms in both slot combinations and a single dimm in any of the 4 slots available. No change.

I am on the official 0704 bios. On the first POST after I clear the CMOS (the only time the board will actually POST) then I can boot into windows. From there I ran the Asus update tool and updated the BIOS to 0704. However...after reading that any windows based bios updating tool can cause issues, I then flashed again using the EZ Flash tool from within BIOS, same result.

Just to recap the issue so there isn't any confusion:
    1. Immediately after clearing CMOS, the board will POST and take me to a screen that basically says:
"Please enter SETUP to recover BIOS settings.
    Press F1 to enter SETUP
Press F2 to load defaults and continue"

    2. If I press F1, I can get into the BIOS (hence how I used the EZ Flash tool), but once I save and exit...no POST.
    3. If I press F2, the pc will continue to load windows and the computer seems to function great (7 instances of memtest, 0 errors, overnight). Once I reboot/restart the pc, no POST.

Thanks for the voltage settings...I'll try those and see if it makes any difference tonight!

Still looking. It seems people are content with either no vdroop using LLC or a huge vdroop w/ LLC disabled, no middle ground yet.

    MB Temps

I don't know if this question has come up already, but has anyone had unusually high tempuratures for motherboard? I am getting numbers between 35-40+ when it has been running for a few minutes. The last few motherboards I have had (all Asus) have only been around 30 and my ambient tempurature is around 22-23.

1.48 Vcore or NB ? maybe ya ram is holding ya back, cpu , mobo , bios tweaks ? 600FSB is a no brainer with good components... I can do it on 0604 too, no need for 0702 nor 0704... Can you fill in the template ?

Some interesting things I found with the no-post issue.

    1. Talked to Asus tech support again last and they basically said my board must be bad.
    2. I tried replacing battery...same problem.
    3. I took out all memory and board gives correct signature beep sequence for problems detecting memory...So the board is getting past the memory detection.
    4. Was about ready to give up on board...but decided to unplug my dvd burner from the PATA IDE port. Tried to boot...and saw something different than I ever have before. The Express Gate screen came up!! I had never seen this screen come up before...and it was functional. I could go into express gate and everything worked. I could also get into the BIOS and change settings. I then tried to save and exit and the board posted again...I went into express gate a couple of times and it appeared things were working fairly normal. Then one of the times when I went to exit the express gate and continue posting/booting...the POST screen froze where it has the black and white screen with the Intel Logo on the bottom right.

So this got me semi-excited to actually see some different behaviour. So I unplugged my WD raptor and started getting random stuff. Sometimes express gate would work, othertimes not, sometimes no POST with blank black screen, sometimes POST would freeze on the B&W Intel logo screen. I tried plugging my raptor in and out on different ports...after a few minutes of playing around, my board started freezing on the B&W Intel logo screen consistently every time.

So that is basically all the testing I've done. For now...I get a freeze on the B&W Intel logo screen everytime...

Then I read [H]'s review and their problem they had with Raptor drives. I also saw than the previous version Asus board (P5K??) had problems with Raptor drives (and other sata drives).

So from the [H] review and my experience with playing around with my raptor...maybe the P5Q series still has issues with Raptors?? I need to play some more tonight, hopefully I can get some kind of other behavior besides the B&W Intel logo screen freeze.

Anyone else using WD Raptor with their P5Q-Dlx...

I have the older 74gig version...

Hey whats up guys? I'm new here and just got around to overclocking my board finally! Here's what I got:

    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=380932

    Also here are my settings:

    ASUS P5Q DLX Template :

    JumperFree Configuration Settings

    Max CPUID Value Limit: Disabled
    Intel® Virtualization Tech: Enabled
    Vanderpool Technology: Disabled

So far this setup is Prime stable for an hour, will run it longer tonight. I can't really go higher on the FSB because my ram has very bad compatibility with this board, it will barely clock over 1066mhz without failing memory stress testing. On my old BFG 680i SLI board this ram would get over 1150mhz stable! I could even set it to 4-4-4-12 if i left it at 1066mhz and put the voltage to 2.15v, not on this board though! All my overclocking is done using BIOS 0704.

Can you show us an everest bandwith run plz with 533FSB and 1066Mhz.. also plz put TRFC 55 manually in the ram settings... I'm doubting if it's not wiser to run eg 450FSB and 1081Mhz on the ram (rm permitting) with a lower PL level... but will have to test that out...

And don't compare Nvidia with Intel... do a superpi run and see who's the fastest then... Nvidia needs a whole lot of tweaking to get anywhere...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
