also, if what I'm seeing is true then there never was an 0603 bios for the p5k-e and you're supposed to use the deluxe version's bios. How do you flash to that because it will give you id mismatch errors and whatnot. At least that is what I'm getting using asus update.

Hey guys, mind my newbie question as I have searched and google'd with no real solution to my problem.

    I have the p5k-e/wifi
    e8400
    4gb
    8800gt
    vista x64 w/ sp1

The problem I have is the wifi connection.
I seem to get a dropped connection everytime I continuously download for more than a couple of hours.
This usually happens a lot more while torrent'ing.
When I try to reconnect back to my wireless router, the network availability screen shows NO networks available.
The solution? -- I had to restart my computer for the wifi to finally show the 4-5 available networks in the area, including my home network. I'm positive it's not my wrt54gl router as the solution was to restart the computer.

I have the latest wifi drivers from windows update / asus website drivers match. Also, the asus ap solo application that came with the cd is not installed as it caused more confusion.

Is the wifi not able to withstand long periods of downloads?
Is the usb wifi adapter flaky?
Or am I better off with a PCI network card?

I've only had this computer for less than a month, so maybe a bad adapter with the board?

    Thanks guys.

Hmm, I dont use the onboard wifi with this mobo, so I'm not sure about
the flakiness of it, however I have had problems with wifi in general particularly when it comes to reliably transferring large files, and/or when
downloading files that would take a considerable amount of time.
There is a lot of interference when it comes to radio waves esp. the 2.4ghz
spectrum, this can cause overloads in the receivers, etc.. Maybe even caused
by a microwave oven near by.

I use the wifi on this board and I do have some problems with it disconnecting and reconnecting randomly. My laptop wifi has no problem. It could be due to a lot of interference in this apartment, as there are 8 WiFi signals here. I am probably going to switch back to the ethernet connection soon as soon as I go out and buy a longer cable.

    Crappy wifi?
I have the same problem, constant connection drops. The only way to get connection back is to deactivate and reavtivate the wireless card. Happens every 5 or 6 hours.
    BTW: p5k-e, q6600, 4gb, vista x64 no sp1

Hi, i recently bought the P5K-E Wifi, and 2*2 Gb G.skill DDR2 1066, and im having problems trying to boot in dual channel.

I manually seted the RAMs on DDR800, and played a little with some options in bios like the transaction booster, and vdimm, but it wont boot while trying to use dual channel (slots 1 and 3), while it works fine on slots 1 and 2, but that means no dual channel

I read something here, about the SPD configuration and than that might be the problem, the last mems that i tweaked where DDR1 and im sort of clueless here, anyone knows something about this problem and/or how making changes on the spd might help me?

I recently checked up on the asus forums and apparently there are others who have similar/exact problem.
Nothing wrong with the board itself, but the wifi adapter seems really unstable. Too late for regrets now as I was hoping the wifi was worth the extra dollars.

Get in the BIOS and manually set:
    timings: 5-5-5-15
vdimm: whatever the manufacture suggest prolly 2.0-2.1v
    NB Voltage: 1.55

This should get you going in dual-chan mode, also you might try slots 2 & 4.

Oh and for now disable Trans-Booster, and Static Read until you get it
working, then you can start to tweak it for performance.

As for the SPD that may help, But you'll have to narrow the problem down
b4 you even think about fixing it there.

I fixed my OCZ modules by hacking the SPD. The problem I was experiencing was that the p5k-e would undervolt my mem at 800mhz, so I edited the
SPD on my modules to make them appear as 666mhz, so when the mobo read the SPD it would run them at 666mhz @ 1.8v, and then I just go and set
    them to 800mhz @ 2.1v manually.

Maybe you could find some alternitive drivers "Not From Asus"
the chipset is realtek RTL8187, I be willing to bet the wifi adapter
is based on a reference circuit design provided by Realtek, and heck
Realtek prolly even has a reference driver.

edit : another question , i changed my gfx to an 9600 GT and cpuz reports pci express speed at 4x while the max is 16x. Its in the blue slot so it should be 16x right ? How can i change this

Hey! I'm back again with a question about "transaction booster". what is the best settings for this one? I'm running my cruciall ballistix @ 950 with Transaction Booster is "Disable" anh Relax Level is "3"

Transaction Booster is related to memory performance(PL in MemSet). Best is to leave it on auto, or try Enabled with Level 0 or 1. Note that for higher mem frequency or/and tighter timings you may not be able to maintain the same Level for TB enabled.

Well, to find your optimum stability, you would generally start with TB Disabled Lv3 with DRAM Static Read Control Disabled since that gives the loosest performance level. You will then slowly tweak the settings by raising the TB level until you find your stable setting. Everyone's setting will be different from one another due to different PC configurations.

Realtek does indeed have a reference driver which I use. I actually solved most of my WiFi dropout problems by setting the router to only support WPA2-AES encryption instead of the very broad WPA/WPA2, TKIP/AES setting.

Help with PK5-E WIFI and E8400

HI guys I need help with this configuration:

    1. Mobo Asus PK5-E WIFI
    2. Memory 4GB (2 x 2gb) Gskill F2-6400CL4D - 4GBPK DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 2.0 - 2.1 v
    3. Video Asus 7900 GT
    4. 850 Watts Powercooler PSU

I dont want to do OC , mainly because I have some unstability problems in the Non OC config, and I want to solve problem first.

The problem is I have some memory "read" , windows errors, in Win XP, mainly using Firefox , and also get some beeps from the mobo (system dont hangup on those beeps) . Games runs well.

Can someone plz help me to configure this rig right?
I run cpu-z and here are my settings, are there fine?, any suggestions?

Beeps? In Windows or on BIOS initialization?

I'd start by running Memtest to check your RAM.

    I'm thinking getting this board,

but I'm afraid of the V-drop

does it means I set the cpu V to 1.5. but it will be 1.5 at boot up, and will lower to like 1.45 when in system?

    is this crucial?
