    8800GT scores seem a bit low for a 4ghz quad

    What is the power consumption of the 8800 GT?
    Same as HD3850/HD4850. Around 110W TDP(105W for 3850, 114W for 4850 if I recall right). AMD got alittle lower idle, but higher at load.

    But the 55nm G92 should soon come aswell in the shape of a 9800GT.

    Actually, the 8800GT/HD3870 both consume ~85W during 3d load. TDP is an overestimate.

    Seems each HD4850 performs better 1000 marks than an 8800GT, even when doubled

    http://service.futuremark.com/result...eResultType=14

    Not bat at all, after 8 months of 8800GT presence and for more 50bucks.

    So the 4800s rock in 3dmark and perform so so in games. Hmm, where have I seen that before?

    That would put the 4870 against 9800GTX or so. And 4870X2 vs 280GTX. Seems nVidia is just toying with AMD yet again.

    Wut?

    so saying a 4850 outperforms a 8800gt and plays in its own league (price and performace wise), and 4870 should competents with 9800gtx (even amd itself says that) and R700 should competent with 280gtx makes him a intel employee.

    time to calibrate shintai hate-o-vision...

    Go watching Mascaras review.
    With CD drivers is very very close to 9800GTX in crysis.

    BFG 9800GTX @ Crysis @ 1680x1050 @ High Setings @ DX10
    Average = 34.5 Fps

    HD 4850 @ Crysis @ 1680x1050 @ High Setings @ DX10
    Average = 31.5 Fps
    3 fps behind with CD driver. Looks to me that HD 4850 is catching up 9800GTX.
    So yes makes him a Intel employ, that is looking to a stupid review (CPU limited) made in one unknow forum writen in a very strange language, instead watching the results here from the Extremesys that are far more trustable.

    And again HD 4850 is using CD driver-> CAT 8.5 with almost 1 month old in one new, not even realeased card.
    And we are talking about Crysis that is not very friendly to ATI HD 3xxx series. So marcaras is testing the worst cenario to HD 4xxx with 1 month old driver. In other games that were much more friendly to HD 3xxx the HD 4850 have much more chances of not only equal 9800GTX but be more performance.

    HD 4870 will destroy completly 9800GTX watching Mascaras scores in Crysis.
    Talking about this:

    Don't pay any intention to Shintel. If anything puts AMD/ATI in a nice light, you can be guaranteed he'll be the first one to try and shoot the light out.

    BTW...any AMD/ATI threads look so much better if you add Shintel to your ignore list.

    LAME

    Unless the 4870 pulls something out of the hat I will just get a 200 euro 9800GTX

    The segments are perfectly right and defined by price.

    The difference is that ATI is wining in those segments head to head comparison, not the opposite has you said. And is wining by a fair margin.

    With 8800GT's flooded out like crazy over the past year or two here why is ATI/AMD coming out with something that compares now? This is pretty ridiculous waste of rnd. When are they going to fire that CEO of theirs?

    I miss when ATI was on par

    you know, the fact is 8800gt sold like a mad, so the mid range is the segment everybody is aiming to atm
    actually we don't need faster cards to play games (we do need them to play benchmarks like crysis, 3dmark, aquamark of course)
    fast cards have never been sold so cheap, and I don't think we need more midrange cards

    i really hope those are bad numbers because if so then that's a major let down. i could care less about 3dmark but what gets me is that the 8800gt is just as fast in games. so the HD4850 will be $200-220. but the 8800gt is already $130 AR. even with SLI and crossfire the 8800gt just gets better and better. lets say HD4850 CF for $400 or 8800gt SLI for $260. yest he 4850 will be faster but not fast enough.

    if this is true i may not be picking up that HD4850 crossfire i was thinking of. i still hope it has at least 9800gtx speeds though. time will tell.
