Are there any 9800GTX results to compare the HD4850 to?
    Core i7 4790K // CM Hyper 212+ // Asus Z97-Pro (BIOS v.1304) // GTX 780 DCII
    Corsair XMS3 2x8GB // Intel 335 SSD (240GB) // Corsair HX650W // Lian Li PC-A10

I'm very interested in a comparison too, The 9800GTX is only 200 euro in Europe atm, so if the 4850 launches for 180-200 euro and its a similar speed to the 9800GTX, the GTX is probably the better buy because of the Dual slot cooler, Greater Overclock headroom? And CUDA and Physx etc etc

"The other thing I have to say before I wrap this all up is that I’ve tested the HD 4850, and I’ve tested it in Crossfire. Now, if I hadn’t tested those cards I may have been more impressed with the GTX 280, but I have. I’ve seen the performance figures the cards put out. We also know the price on a pair of HD 4850s is going to be under $600 AUD, while the new GTX 280 in stock form seems to be launching at the absolute cheapest in Australia in the low $700 AUD area. Ouch."

    http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/146...hts/index.html

NOTE: Actually the first retail HD 4850 has been listed at $249 AUD and will drop even further over the next month, so you may be able to get a pair for closer to $400 AUD while the first GTX 280 listed is $999 AUD... Double Ouch!

Last I've seen is still June 25, though they have apparently pushed back the 4850 launch to the 25th as well.

Isn't the @jimmyz card with vmod? Why the clocks are so low. Haven't you tried yet the 4870 clocks-750MHz or even more . Ati has always had greater OC potential with the stock coolers, so I hope this time the story won't go wrong .

The ATI CCC limits clocks to 700 so until we get RivaTuner or ATITool to read the cards properly, we can't change their clocks above 700 yet. But I've heard from more than a few people that 700+ is very doable

Jimmyz or anyone else with one of these cards, could one of you upload the manual found on the CD that came with the card? I can pick one up today at a local distributor, but I am mainly intersted in it's HDMI audio capability, and I think the manual would give me a clue if it is likely that it does what I want...

    Thanks very much!

And what about Amd GPU clock tool? Does it work with the new cards, because it was the first way to overclock the r600 core?

You read my mind, I was going to ask this exact question about mixed Xfire.

Good luck with overclocking tools, they are always a PITA with new ATI cards

Thanks for all info and keep us posted!!!

jimmyz Could you be so kind and give it another run of Crysis but this time according to these instructions:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ghlight=Crysis

It’s just that “Benchmark_GPU” that’s shipped with Crysis is really only about texture streaming, and it’s nowhere near to actual gameplay experience.

I’ve done extensive testing and tryouts and I strongly believe that “benchmark_GPU” is absolutely pointless. But fortunately there’s a way to do a proper testing on any level in game (IMHO :sphere: is the best place to test ‘cos it has both weather setting in Crysis – Alien winter, and tropical summer)

BTW according to the build number in bench utill you haven’t patched Crysis to 1.2 so maybe it would be useful to do so.
    Thanks!
