I hope they match up. Would love to be able to pick up some EK FC nickel blocks for the 4870X2 when it emerges without having to wait for Eddy to get a card to develop around.

    1GB 4870 please

Though with the aggressive pricing of the GTX 260 (if true), it might just make more sense to buy that if the 1GB is going to be > $350

Partner cards, and the 4870 uses GDDR5.

4850 1GB should come soon after, I guess July.

Nope, the memory is in a completely different place. Fullcover blocks won't fit. Core only blocks yes.

I doubt that. If you look at the pictures that are cirkulating, you can see that the mem-chips are in a different config. Maybe some fullcover blocks will fit anyway, but not those with elevated areas for the memory.

Yea, it seems I was only thinking about the GPU

I'm assuming you can grab that a GPU-only block and use it on the 4850 ?

Yes a 3850 gpu block would fit for sure.

    Ah kk. Ty

I'm pretty traditional thinker when it comes to liquid cooling. I've never approved of full-cover GPU blocks due to their size and weight (which should decrease going from air to water imo, not increase) and seeing OPP and Shamino use GPU blocks + copper ram chips has embedded that image in my head

Weird how the box of the Powercolor 4850 doesn't even tell us SP count or specs

ATI must've REALLY tried hard to keep things under the table this round...

    Neither does my Visiontek box.

the main hole pattern is sized the same as 3850 meaning my maze4 blocks will work. I will be watercooling sunday if i find a clocking workaround by then. the volt mod is found and figured out, it will be up soon.

Is everyone else not paying attention to how hot it is at idle? Like, 68C at idle.

I'm worried about the heat of this card.

Or maybe the fan doesn't spin at idle? lol.

    I'd like to know.

my hd3870x2's Idle at nearly that temp because of drivers keeping fanspeed fixed at verry low speed however under full load it barely goes up another 10deg.....

I did end up wireing in a external fan controller for the cards. For some reason using Rivatuner to crank fans to 100% would cause my OC to become unstable (robbing power from the card I guess but the external power supply to the fans cured that).

What makes you think that's the idle temp? The guy just ran the 3DM06 benchmark, the card is just cooling down while he made the screenshot, or maybe he kept CCC open to show the load temp...

My 3870 is 37 celcius idle.

Maybe the fan speed profile is simply set up that way. Stock hd3850s hit 90C+ on load simply because its set up that way.

We have just put together a £600 system with a P5Q, E8400 and 4850. CPU will be clocked to ~4GHz. We'll be testing it on Monday.

Probably use 3DMark06, Vantage & Crysis any other requests?
