Both are awesome cards. Wait to see core OCs for both, seeing as the 4870 with 3600Mhz GDDR5 has already won the memory clock test.

You have about a month to decide, as the dust will have settled by then, cards will be in full availability and stable price by then.

So you can crossfire a 2900 with a 3870? I found this chart:

    http://game.amd.com/us-en/content/im...hart_Dec07.jpg

I'm pretty tired and maybe i'm misunderstanding it, but it seems to indicate you can't

I ran xfire in the early days of the x1900 and there was a bug here and there, but to be honest with you.....it was not as bad as some people claim. If ATI improved it which I hope they did, it will be a nice setup.

I also run on a X48 and Im waiting for results. I just cant seem to make myself run a Nvidia chipped mobo again. Good for benching, but lackluster for daily usage.

@ least @ 3dmark nothing honestly surprising @ stock (equivalent to my 8800GT), maybe with 750mhz core we should see what the HD4850 can do...
    Are we there yet?

Ummm.... hey, am I the only one to notice that these numbers kind of suck, really badly? So, are you guys saying that a yorkfield @ 4.0-4.6GHz (an insane overclock unless you have unlocked multi) with a 4850 is only scoring ~15k in 3dmark06? That really, really sucks.

With my 2900Pro overclocked to 874/1000 and my Q9450 at 3.6GHz, I score 14.5k in 3dmark06. So if those results are real, then yes, that really sucks.

Far too early to make such comments. Please respect the member trying to give us an early look at some good 4850 benchies.

erm a 2900 pro is like a 2900xt , which currently holds to top 3dmark06 record.
the 2900xt is more like a 3870 not a 3850.+ the 4850 is ment to have fixed the aa issues of the 2900 and 3800's

    we'll see how it games
    3dmark 06 isn't everything <@:-D

The overclock should be irrelevant. 06 is heavily CPU limited, and I have a 3.6GHz yorkfield, and they have a 4ghz yorkfield. That would be a pretty big balance tipper.

If the 4850 really has 800 SPs and 32 TMUs, then these results are extremely disappointing. Unless it basically doubles it's performance in crossfire, it's going to blow.

i believe you missed the part where the first retail price for the 2900 was something like 350 euros? the 4850 is supposed to be around 140 :P

I can't blame people for doubting, but ask yourselves why until today I had no posts in this thread even though I am always a fan of the midrange ati cards. I will get more benches done soon, what speeds do you guys want for comparisions?

besides guy I'm naming sources, i got this card without an NDA. I am just a small town boy from Indiana, Out to bench anything I can get my hands on, the newer and rarer the better. gotta get back to testing. how about something like 4ghz?

Oh and this card clocks like crazy...lol I talked to W1zzard he confirmed it isn't reading right and the shader and other info is courtesy of a database that he will update to the real figures very soon hopefully.

you know how much a 9800GTX got in 2k6 ???

    9800GTX with Quad @4Ghz = ~15K

so this means hd2900 is good as 9800GTX ??? not even close

    3dmark 2006 means nothing !
