    [WIP] Acrylic Res Designs

im trying to make watercooling as creative as possible
from different res designs, to stylized waterblocks.
anything to make it more then just watercooling. i like
the idea of a res, because it stands out, its very prominent
and loud (its presence, they usually dont make sounds,
do they? ) especially combined with colored liquids,
LEDs, and/or special lighting effects. aside from doing its
job (holds liquid, bleeding, etc) i see it as an opportunity

so heres a design i though up of yesterday, ive seen a
similar design done before, and i liked the idea. so i took
    it alittle further design wise.

top and bottom fittings are counter sunk, now i can see
this as a future problem for some but i see it as a good
idea. with it counter sunk, the ends of the tubing are now
hidden, and the tubing appears to just be coming out of
the res, i know some like to use worm drive clamps, and
herbie clips, but ive experienced no leaks with the out
clamping with the bitspower fittings, and even if you really
wanted to clamp the fittings, most fittings are more then
long enough to be able to be clamped or ziptied. the
counter sink is .25" which isnt much but enough to hide
    poorly cut ends.

another issue to some maybe how are you going to tighten
the fittings? well what i usually do is use a old piece of
tubing, which is usually like a few inches long and use that
as a clamp to hold the tubing while i turn and tighten it
as much as i can with my hands, which is usually more
then enough, if that isnt enough, the counter sink has a
.75" diameter which is pretty large, big enough for a
    socket head.

ill get some detailed shots later, it just takes a while
now if i only had a skully might cut down render
    time in half

    enjoy

Nice design, what about chrome res holders instead of acrylic?

You might want to fix the second image - looks like it got JPEG'd to death :|

pre built in horizontal baffles in tubular reservoir, about time someone did that!

Seriously, it makes so much more sense, ever tubular res should have some kind of baffling system like that, the ones out currently that produce unholy cyclones are a joke when it can be stopped so easily like that.

you just gave me the greatest idea!

    drum roll please "drummmmmmmmmmm"

a drop in for ek res! like the anti cyclone
but with the multiple baffles in both directions!

should be relatively cheap to manufacture too

    opinions?

I like that idea! Especially since I just bought an EK res
This thread is subscribed to and I can't wait to see what I might be buying!
Although by the look of those pics I might be buying another res just to have

Measure the diameter of the Bitspower 1/2" ID 3/4" OD Compression fittings to make sure the counter sunk holes are wide enough, the EK's aren't.

Mine should be here by Tuesday, I can get you an exact measurement if you want.

Recessed fitting surfaces are cool, just not when they cut your options for fittings down.

how about anodized alu for the holders? Single retension screw versus double on the holders as well? Just speculating, but the two screw setup might be difficult to accomodate in certain cases.

I really like the look though!!!

And if you do black holders? or the res a little bit more large?

Anodized or brushed aluminum, maybe stainless steel for the holders.

i was thinking if it was aluminum i would need to cut it down
size wise, much thinner, if not it will be a nice .75" thick piece
of aluminum, but then again that would probably be real nice.

as for the screws, i guys think a single screw would be a better
idea? how about the option for both because sometimes i
feel that my res clip rotates too much so i would personally use
two screws, but with the option of either, that eliminates issues

color for sure will come in many different flavors as well as sizes
but more so colors then sizes. right now it stands 5" tall which i
feel is a nice size, if i were to a few sizes it would probably be

    5" 7" 9" or 6" 8" 10"

reason for that is simple, top and bottom are 1/2" thick totaling
to 1" baffles are 1" tall, and right how in that res there is 4 making
it 5" talls, if there were 5 then it would be 6" so on and so forth

you guys like even numbers or odd

    edit:

also heres a little explanation of whats what

Acrylic is what you had in mind? If so, clear or black would be perfect!

Option for 1 or 2 screws would be the cat's pajama's!!

1 thing that comes to mind, while its a completely awesome design, I really hope your good with acrylic, since It would be really easy to get the acrylic bonding glue on the inside of the tube in spots you don't want it. If you plan to make more then one you really would need to get some kind of system down to make that easier/uniform. (probably the reason that superior anti cyclone design hasn't been used before)

I don't know if this would work, but maybe make it copper and attach some fins to it. So then the res is passively cooled by air, I have a feeling this is a pathetic idea.
