And AMD guys (reading this thread) ... pay more attention on your samples and dont call me AGAIN! I am not under NDA, and i can do anything i want ... If you will bother me again, i will post everything results i have !!!!!!
I don't doubt that you have the cards, but its pretty mean spirited to tease us like you did.

E.g telling you would post benchmarks and making people wait hours for you to do so.

Although alot of people have been rude, you are kind of the source of this(or atleast the origin).

We were just waiting for you to deliver and you left us out to dry. I can tell from what Benchzowner said that this act was premeditated. Essentially you set up a sequence of events and you like watching the fallout as it occurred. You like seeing people squirm because you have certain privileges over them. You know how this was going to turn out from the very start and you like manipulating people.

This is how I see the series of events.

E.g You drop a hint of its performance. (e.g you mentioned it performs better in crossfire than a 280 gtx)

You say the card is at home and you need drivers(Its impossible that someone with your resources could not find drivers. Its not like its your first time using a pc)

You watch as people act like dogs, sending you drivers, posting links(like watching beggers dance for pennies)

You post a picture to prove your not some big talker who a nobody in reallife and you mean business(Like someone flashing a gun, even those there are no bullets in side)

You say your reinstalling windows but who needs to reinstall windows just for some crysis numbers, it not like we have to maximize performance.(You did this so people are willing to wait just a bit longer). At this point you were probaly justing watch soccer.

When you know this game no longer has legs, you tell us you can't do it anymore and feel like a bigger man because you have privileges. And you just created a swarm of "cry babies" who envy the information you have.

You might call them cry babies but they are just bitter because the whole time you were just stringing them along.

You failed at least in my eyes as a journalist(because you didn't act professional. If you couldn't say, you shouldn't tease everyone like your are gonna to say something).

And to some extent a hardware enthusiast. Alot of people want to see the specs and the ones that cannot wait are the probaly some of the biggest enthusiast there are. Although we might not get crazy hardware for free or early, it doesn't mean we don't love this stuff as much as you. You should know that doing this type of stuff kind of rattles us because its genuinely hard for us to wait for this stuff, especially since its been hyped up so much.

At the end you don't have to apologize because you see us as nothing, just poor beggers who can't play with the rich kids toy.

I might be over thinking this but my reasoning for this is.

    1. Benchzowner said you brag like this all the time.
    2. You know how AMD is going to react
    3. Why would you ask for drivers(Saying you have only old drivers is like hearing I can't use that soccer ball beause it is orange instead of black and white).
    4. You took way longer than you should of for such a simple task.
    5. You never apologized for not delivering.

I really really really hope you're right.

I'd love for ATI to come out from under Nvidia's choke hold and just smash them like they did with the 9800 Pro's/XT's

I agree OBR shouldn't have teased us that way but that also doesn't call for us flaming him for it

Stuff happens and if they found his identity and magazine, then the right thing to do was to retract publishing information

OBR I hope you never do this again. No disrespect but you should have known of policies before coming with intrusive claims. Well we learn from past experiences and apply in present or future actions. I hope you get the message.

People this is not a flame thread on any way. The guy slipped and talked too much but this has to end. Please keep on topic.

OBR- i dont mean to be disrespectful, but what did you expect...
you didnt give ANY INFO, not a sausage, never mind an actual benchmark...
you havnt posted because its not fair on amd... have you any idea how daft that sounds,
who do you think you are, even if you do post bench's they arnt going to be believed by the whole community, so your influence would of been minimal in any case.....
how about just answering a few questions for your fellow members, instead of ordering us to wait two weeks... your too busy trying to act ELITIST...

numpty buisness if you ask me....
    end of rant

My word, the past few pages have been pretty dire reading. I guess a forum is only as bad as the people responsible for maintaining it though

About the 4000 cards, does it make sense for both the 4850 and 4870 to have the 800 (/5) sp count? You'd think they might cut down the number on the 4850 or something right?

I can't believe the mods haven't hit this topic hard yet...

With every post I wince a little bit thinking, "oh geeze, the admins aren't gonna like what that guy just said..."

This entire topic went completely out of control. Oh well, I think EVERYONE needs to take a big deep breath and remember, it's just an internet forum about sparkly computer parts. I know I do... I'm so wound up right now.

if the mods do anything it should be to give OBR a temporary vacation from the forum

They can disable or set the frequencies. That is how they split up the main chip into many fragments which is usually called market segments, that means the same chip can make many derived products from it like 4850, 4870 and 4870x2.

What will be interesting to see is just how much of a difference the GDDR5 will have over the GDDR3. If both GPU's were at the same clock speed just how much of a difference will the extra 900mhz on the member make (2ghz vs 3.6-3.8ghz effective).

Yes, but current information all indicates that all these cards are going to feature the same full chip, namely RV770 in full configuration. He was wondering whether there would be any form of cut down RV770, which is of course very likely but it will probably appear later in RV770's life as some form of 4830.

Its a test in vantage or 3dmark06 few know of but supposedly is the purest ALU test.

    3870 = 320 * 775
    4850 = 800 * 625

if you take that ratio, you realize that 4850 has a theoretical 2.016x theoretical shader power over the 4850 so the 800 SP count is likely..

What's amazing about those scores is that the 980GTX scores ~230 and the 9800GX2 ~380 or so. If the 4870 really is 20-30% faster than the 4850, it could match the 9800GX2 in pure theoretical ALU power.

Obviously doesn't translate into games immediately but it has a LOT of processing power (800 SP's seems likeliest now).

no-x also said that the fillrate tests were very good but didn't elaborate.

Anyways, my folding will be quite improved soon..

Guys please drop this "OBR parade" thing now.
It's going nowhere, and you will get nothing out of flaming him or defending him.

I know it's "lame" and everybody's impatiently waiting to see some numbers, so they can decide if the wait is worth it, or just buy the nVIDIA card that'll come out earlier than the Radeons.

The 4850 uses lower bandwidth due to 256 bit-wide + GDDR3 and frequency, so that should imply on a lower performance than 4870. The 4850 probably could not have shaders being disabled due to performance issues and competition. The best bet was to keep its design and performance being controlled by its bandwidth and frequency. A 4850 overclocked with a GDDR5 would be interesting.
