And he says he knows what multithreading is...

According to my logic elephants can fly too.

And your thinking, again, seems to be off. How is it not multithreaded when it uses 2 cores VERY well but not 4? What you are smoking son, pass it on over here!!
Read the first quote and then the second. Did you practice what you preach.

I did not insult/troll the guy at all. I said his thinking was off...and whatever made it off, to share!

Go away unless you have something on topic to discuss...like elephants and pigs flying...

It uses atleast 2 cores effectively and can use core 2 and 3 to a lesser degree...

And please, find me another game that can max out a Quad... Supreme Commander comes pretty close... but even the latest x264 encoder will not load EVERY core 100%

so if i apply you analogy to other apps and run them on a 8core harpertown rig, a app that only uses 4 threads is not multithreaded?
you are taking this way out of context, you say, because is scales WORSE, problem is, it doesnt scale after 2 threads...
normally a multithreaded application keeps getting better after 2 or more threads, crysis suddenly stops after 2 threads
if it makes you happy to believe the cryengine is fully multithreaded, fine so be it, everyone has is own point of view, too bad some people cannot express theirselves in a mature way

a multithreaded app doesnt have to load each core to 100%

well, if someone boots up crysis at 800*600 with low detail and can monitor it with rivatuner, i would be glad, and if i am wrong, so be it, people learn from their mistakes

no, just correcting people who obviously don't know what they're talking about is. and then reveling in it afterward. it's been in style for 6 to 11 thousand years.

I can agree with the sentiment, as I have stayed away from the threading argument and used the term "optimize" performance for mutli-core CPUs. However, not all games spread workloads across multiple cores in the same manner and in that sense, there are games that are better at multi-threading at others.

His point is one that is shared by many. You can do what Crysis has done without bringing a gpu like an 8800 Ultra to its knees.

Crysis fanboys like to idealize Crytek for not working with Nvidia and ATI to optimize performance over time, as has happened with practically every other hugely popular 3D engine, and this only reinforces Crytek to make the next engine update even more badly optimize so that it can be hailed as the premier PC benchmark even more.

Oh so I'm a Crysis fanboy now? I have only played the demo btw

I see you are a member of the ever so famous "Crysis is badly coded / not optimised" brigade... you guys are almost as cool as the "Old News!! lolol" brigade..

Have you ever seen Crysis in action? When you find a game that looks even remotely as good as it, that can look that amazing on almost 2 year old hardware (I had an E4300 + 8800gts 640) come back and tell me Crysis is "coded badly" and I might believe you then....

There is not one game that can touch Crysis with a 20yard stick for Visual Quality and General Awesomeness of the environment....

What if we stick to the facts?

Crysis in a dual CPU setup uses about 90% of cpu0 and about 80% of cpu1

Crysis in a quad CPU setup uses about 40% of each of 4 cpus

If that ain't multithreaded, I am well sure it is not singlethreaded.

Other fact, is that the scaling of the threads seems to be balanced, in a way that the quad cpu setup doesn't have the behavior of the dual cpu setup.

So, Crysis IS a balanced multithreaded app.
    Are we there yet?

First pic is my setup, second pic was posted here a while ago in this thread. Mind that I have e8400 @ 4050mhz.

i would sure be willing to do quad vs dual, i just have to talk with a friend of mine to borrow me his quad-core, although I don't think it is really needed.

this multithreading for crysis..when u put highres + high details, fps is same no matter do you have dual or quad cpu.

of course, because at high res everything comes to be gpu bound and not cpu bound

A quad core that is not loaded to at least 95% means the application is not well multithreaded!

Yes, Crysis is about graphics/gpu thing, u can forget multithreading/quad cores, unless you play 640x480 low detail :P
