Anubody got a Q9450 on this or any X38 mobo yet to share experiences with? I'm not having the most exciting overclocking experiences with mine.

I have the Q9300 and mine are about the same not to good. I need a new bios bad, mine is crippled the way they "GigaByte" has it right now. It just wont get past the cold start thing and it pisses me off. I have to pump way to much voltage into the mch to get it to stay stable as well and by that time, it starts to over heat and locks up so,,,,. Me neither.

The f4a beta is more stable than any other bioses I have in the board (Dont forget this is an EX38-DS4) and it allowed me to get the OC I have now. Problem is the hight latency I have though. Im waiting for a response tfrom Gigabyte about my problem though.

I think GB have forgotten about the X38, no update now in over 6 weeks.

Yah it would be nice if they made my board more capable of overclocking my new Q9450. I can get it to 465x8 and it goes kapoot after that. I know it isn't the chip the chip is more then happy to go there. They need to fix the straps to. I can't get the 2.4b strap happy with performance level 6 for. The 2.66d strap will go there happily and it doesn't like anything else but the 6. I'm probably going to get an Asus motherboard next time if they don't come out with a solid bios soon.

I hear there will be a new stepping of the new 45nm quads by intel... it figures... with the low OC potential they have been proving to have when compared to the duals, it was something that intel needed/wanted to revise.
Still, they decided to EOL the Q9450, which is kinda odd since there has been such demand for that chip... Intel seems a bit confused right now with both their fab processes.

I'm kinda annoyed by this actually, sooo soon after release (even though it's still hard to find Q9450's) they are discontinuing the Q9450 + making a new revision stepping. So you get hit twice...the problem is the resale value of the Q9450 will drop like a stone and no one will want them at a reasonable asking price, they will want them for half nothing (compared to what you spent to buy them)....sucks.

you know when they release a new model, they ALWAYS limit it in first release phase. version 1.0
ALWAYS limit the design, and the functionality
doesnt matter if it's a cpu, gpu, mb or mobile phone.
why???
they want you upgrading, but sooner rather than later.
this way they get more bang for their R&D dollars.
you think these incredibly smart engineers work on a chip and its design for years and then AFTER release say, hang on a minute, what if we did this?
and presto you have the improved design (revised stepping), think x48 think 8800gt (and q9450)
that's why version 1.0's become obsolete very quickly
more upgrades = more sales = more $$$$$$$
for me the 8800gts is like version 1.0 and the 8800gt is like the 1.1 or 2.0
same with the x48 it'a a version 1.1 or 2.0 of the x38
same with the q6600 B3's (v1.0) and GO's (v1.1 or 2.0)
that's why if you can, for a new chipset always wait for version 1.1 or 2.0
