I'm willing to bet my Seasonic S12-500W will run the E8400 and the GTX 280 just fine, I ran a RTHDRBL + Prime95 torture test with a 3.4ghz 1.4v Q6600 and overclocked 8800GTX for a few hours last year with ZERO issues. Wattage requirements are grossly overstated to get you to buy you don't need. My E8400 is using 100-150W tops + another 250W from the GTX 280 will put it right at peak of my PSU's efficiency curve. Quality>quantity.
