Nice...I hope this BIOS addresses corruption issues when using RAID. Makes it hard for me to test overclocks.

BenchZowner - Thank you very much for your thoughts on my question, much appreciated! With that said your settings are very impressive to say the least man, those timings are super tight! Plus it looks like you have been able to actually boot into Windows with those settings (as in you didn't have to use MemSet to tighten everything up once you were actually in Windows), is that true or did you have to use Windows based programs to tighten stuff up a bit? Last but not least in the first two of your three screenshots you were running at 510FSB x 9.0 = 4.6Ghz, well what voltages were you running with those settings, do you remember?

    vcore:
    PLL:
    VTT:
    vdimm:
    SB:
    NB:
*Did you mess with any of the GTL's (either CPU GTL's or NB GTL's) for any of your recent bench sessions? Thanks man! Oh crap, given your vast experience with serious clocking on this board have you found any of the voltage read points on the board yet (besides the VDIMM and CPU points on the bottom of the PCB (or the VDIMM point on the top of board between the right-most DDR3 slot of the ATX connector)? Most importantly I'm curious about the actual VTT voltage read point? Thanks again man!

PMP - Your help is greatly appreciated, especially in regards to your BIOS release information! Otherwise we might not have had any information on the change log for these files! Now this may be a stupid question but, when a new BIOS file is released does it usually contain all the previous fixes/changes from old BIOS files along with any new fixes/changes? I suppose that this depends on which BIOS file the new release was built off of?

Yes, those timings are indeed tight, and I booted into windows with those timings, except tRFC because the BIOS ignores the tRFC setting ( BIOS Bug ).

Those settings are not guaranteed to work with every E8xxx series chip out there, but here they are: ( ignore my Vcore as my chips is one of the worst chips out there, and requires enormous amounts of voltage to reach high frequencies )

    vcore: 1.675V
    PLL: 1.72V
    VTT: 1.4V
    vdimm: 2.18V
    SB: 1.65V
    NB: 1.7V

For the given FSB frequency with both P1 & P2 enabled, I had to use NB GTL @ +40mV.
CPU also required -21mV & -24mV to run at those settings stable.
Auto GTL settings didn't cut it.

Oh crap, given your vast experience with serious clocking on this board have you found any of the voltage read points on the board yet (besides the VDIMM and CPU points on the bottom of the PCB (or the VDIMM point on the top of board between the right-most DDR3 slot of the ATX connector)?[/quote]

    Main Voltage measurement points:

You can use the exposed pins on the front side of the mobo to measure them as well.

Vtt and other voltages points coming soon ( gotta finish some top priority stuff first )

BenchZowner - Your the man, thank you very much for posting all this information despite being so busy (its a huge help to say the least)! Did you step up to 0702 yet or are you still running 0701?

    |SiLA| - I assume you have read through Kris's article over at Anandtech, HERE? I ask this becausee they had amazing results running 4x sticks on their S2E and gave alot of hints/pointers to make it happen! Its at the very least a great place to start. I am not much help because I've only got 2GB of RAM on 2x sticks! Good luck man and if you have success please post your settings incase others are having the same problem!

Does anybody have an issue with the onboard NIC's? My connection was working fine and now either NIC cant grab an IP from my router. It sends packets but does not recieve any and has the limited or no connectivey exclamation point. Ethernet cable and router is fine as i can hook the same cable to another PC and it connects fine.

when I try and load either 701, 702 bois I get a message that bin file is not the same as existing bios, and it won't load .. I was using ez-flash utility in bios with a USB drive, I tried booting to USB directly but I am not sure I did it right, I formated my USB drive to FAT. not FAT32 and loaded 702 bios to it a long with awardflash utility from ASUS CD and did what said in owners manuel but I can not get it to work. I'm sure it's me...LOL and no I don't own a floppy drive yet nor do I want one... I notice that only a few bios's work with ez-flash utility, what makes them different that others will not work? I'm using 0603 as of now.

I have the worst luck. (I should change my user name to BADLUCK) Because I received my new RMAed S2E a couple of days ago and I was running it at a 1603 FSB with a multi of x10.5 @ 4.2GHz with my memory running at 7-7-7-18 1T on my QX9650. I was stable all night no problems ran 3DMARK06 10 times, memory check no problems, ran prime95 for 2 hours no problems, and played Crysis multi for about 2 hours as well.
I was on BIOS 0603, because I was having problems flashing to new 0701. I so happy everything was running so well tell I shut down my system and went to bed. And when I woke up I started my system and it would go through all the normal boot stuff tell it got to the end when the Windows Vista SOUND comes ON and then it reboots over and over same thing. I tried a Q6600 cpu, two different HD with Windows Vista installed already. Nothing??? So after 1 day of fun with this board I decided to get that REFUND after all. Life is way to short to be messing around with ASUS $500 mobo. I just wish I had a chance with that new BIOS 0702 to see if anything else would work. So another one bites the dust... Not sure what I will go to now, probably selling my QX9650 cpu and go back to my old setup. I really did not see that big of a change coming away from the 680i to this 790i other then the DDR3. I hope later this board will shine and then maybe I will return... GOOD LUCK ALL... I will be watching your progress on the sideline, this time without pulling out my own hair because I do not have to deal with this frustration anymore..

Why don't you try to pop the battery, reset all stuff back (if it comes alive again and posts) to default settings lucky and reset ya OC from scratch... and test each setting thorughly... Really surprised you ddn't see any change coming from 680i to 790i... ram performance is way better on the newer Nvidia's (at least the 780i I had) and overclocking quads is way painless too...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I see what your saying Leeghoofd but I can also understand some guys (like Lu(ky) just deciding to give it up! I myself truly enjoy all this stuff (sometimes spending more time tweaking and testing than actually using your computer for what it was made for) but I know this is not the case for everyone! I've actually considered investing in a 2nd system (which I don't have at the moment) that was just set up for stable and reliable operation. That way when I was working on a new build (like we all are doing now on the S2E)I'd still have a system to go online with and use for working (homework, internet, etc..).

EDIT: I was just browsing over at newegg and noticed there is a Striker II NSE motherboard for sale now for a bit under $400. Until just seeing it for sale there I didn't know it exsisted, is this just one the first 790i boards (not the 790i Ultra)? The specs looking similar except for a few things, like lower RAM OC speeds (this one only mentions up to 1600)? Just curious as I haven't heard of it yet!

    Hi all!
I´ve been following this thread for a while, taking advise from the most experienced OCers and enthusiasts.
My issue is a strange one(at least do i think so). I can boot Vista x64 with almost any setting and its prime95 stabile (8h), 3DMark06/Vantage Stabile, Crysis stabile with the FSB@1806MHz and my QX9650@ multi x9.
However i´m having problems in getting XP stabile (need it for some legacy games and apps). So every time i try to boot XP i end up with a BSOD or it freezes.
If i go stock setting XP is stabile and works fine. I have tried both with SP2 as well as with SP3 (current install) and the result is the same. The only software installed is Nvidia MoBo(9.64) and GPU drivers(169.25).
Since the SIIE is my first Nvidia MoBo i´m not familiar with all the settings and possebilities of it. I might, and probably are doing something that could be improved.

    My current settings:
    BIOS 0702
    Multi x9
    vCore 1,47
    PLL 1,6
    VTT 1,34
    NB 1,68
    SB 1,6
    GTL0 -43mv
    GTL1 -48mV
    GTL2 AUTO
    GTL3 AUTO

    Timings 7-6-6-20-1T
    2GB Dominator DDR3 PC14400

Any advise is welcome because i´m stuck.

Umm... i dont know if i´m in the right thread. There are currently two that deals with the 790i. Hopefully i am in the right one

    Cheers friends

Try setting the NB Ref Voltage at +30mV for a start.
And also set the GTLs at -29mV, -32mV, -32mV, -29mV.

For 45nm dual cores should we use negative values for the NB Ref Voltage like the CPU GTLs? OR does the same concept not apply to the NB GTLs.

My question is, are the people with eVGA changing their NB Ref voltages? Since most of us need to increase the NB voltage for high OC, maybe NB ref voltage should be changed too?

NB likes positive GTLs with both Dual & Quads.
+30mV and +40mV seems like the sweet spot in my testing ( 500+ FSB, P1 & P2 Enabled, and RAM Linked and Unlinked with tight timings )
