To get to the mem divider:

Go into cmos
Press right once
Two options near the bottom mention memory, its the second one.
First option on the new page is for mem divider, second is for running 2T, thirds is for setting all other timings if enabled.

In the other memory menu you can set it to be unganged, which is much better overall. (Took the iterations for doing Gimps mersenne testing from .068 to .062 per iteration just by enabling it.)
Not much to say right now.

ok thanks for the divider tip ill look for that.

as far as the ganged unganged. i saw a test with intel and amd boards camparing different memory and settings.

@ 800 vs 1066. 1066ganged was a little faster then 800 unganged.

and nedjo was right. because i could not overclcok with unganged @ 1066.

so i just set it @ 1066 ganged. i will test later myslef 800 unganed vs 1066 ganged. go back to the other page i posted some screen shots.

what should my tRC setting be at? it says 31 now.

also what is JEDEC #1 JEDEC #2 and EPP #1 ???

im guessing those r like memory standards? so should i have my memory set for the EPP #1 setting?

-------------------------

havent really played with my overclocking.... im just getting comfortable with everything in the bios. its somewhat overwhelming how many different options there are.

im sure ill be back alot, haha! thanks

well today i have went a step back. but 2 foward at the same time.
i also have more questions.

after posting yesterdays cpu-z and 3dmark. i got bsod's. so today im @ 2.9ghz. 1.35v <<< very nice so far. 34c-35c idle 47c - 48c load.

little lower clock but much better temps and volts.

ok now for my questions and concerns. i posted about this in the tlb patch thread aswell. but it may only be showing this in m3a32 bios. the cpu tweak when on shows red circle in overdrive. << tlb patch disabled. cpu tweak off shows amber. <<<< b2 that would show green showing tlb patch activated. with 9850 it shows up amber.

why would a tlb patch option even be showing in 1002 bios???
also have any of you checked if vista with sp1 is still activating the tlb patch with a 9850 installed.

having this option on i could not boot any higher then 2.8. except that suicide run yesterday with very high volts.

ok still stable @ 2.9 been playing some games on her.

this is offf and on topic and i believe it is what was actualy causing most of the lock ups and bsods. if your using a creative audio card in vista. i believe to be a vista only problem 32 and 64. on start up there is a file called dllml.exe used to show on screen volume ect..... well it cuses all sorts of problems. if loaded at start up. great news is open mscinfig and disable all instances of the module opening up. no features of your creative card will be lost.

no more slowing down or bsod's. yay !!!!

so im going to play a little more then go for 3+

alot of my attempts @ 3+ got right upto the login in or failed just after trying to login. im thinking it was due to the items mentioned in the above post and this one.

so a couple of questions...in the advanced tab of the bios...can someone explain the differnece between:

Processor Voltage and CPU VDDA Voltage?

Processor - NB Voltage?

Northbridge Voltage (manual)
HT volts?
Core/PCI-e volts?
NB PCI-e PLL?
Southbridge Voltage?

how do u know what the stock voltages are?

also ive been using OCCT and AOD stability test... are these good ones?
i got a 3920 cpu score in 3dmark06

is there a quad core benchmark test? i was using orthos but it only uses 2 cores. is there a four core prime95?

I'm using the Ram cooler and a 90mm Delta fan blowing on it all. But thinking about removing the entire heatpipe setup and using after market coolers on it all.

Looks like 2.8 ghz is the max I can get out of my 9850 and this MB. Maybe a good Bios update will help some.

Processor Voltage=CPU-VID were you set your vCore.
CPU VDDA

Processor - NB Voltage?
Were is to set NB-VID in the CPU, important for hight NB speeds.

Northbridge Voltage (manual)
HT volts?
Were is to set your HT-VID, just up a little for hight HT Link Frequency.

Core/PCI-e volts?
If you overclock your PCIe, give just a little more volts.

NB PCI-e PLL?
Is your NB chipset (not in CPU) normally doesn't need to be changed, but can be used for some stability.

Southbridge Voltage?
Southbridge chip voltage control, same as NB, no need do change, except for some stability.

how do u know what the stock voltages are?
From bios you can't. Set all at default and run AOD, AMD Power Monitor for NB voltage to check voltages.

4362 cpu score! at 2.9ghz and 1.33vcore

i ran OCCT 2.0 for an hour as well as AOD stability test for an hour.

i definitly have more room on my 8800gts though.

anybody play around with cpu vdda in the bios?

whats a good NB speed?? right now its set at 2200mhz.

set CPU VDDA at 2.6V...

also not really sure what the HT link volts should be at or the NB pcie PLL volts should be at. any ideas?

Go for NB=2400 at same volts, if not stable go up a little on volt, until system stable, in case your CPU handle NB=2400.
If you set AutoXpress enable PCIe will be 124, I had it always enable with my Radeons.

im back @ 2.9 but i must have abunk chip or something. i have to run it @ 1.425 to get it to stay stable.

i have started a suport ticket with AMD. probly going to RMA this one it should not be needing this high of volatge.

even stock to stay stable needs like 1.35 or higher. it will only run for so long at stock and and OC settings. its not temp. all temps are allways with in range. it has never even went above 55 when i did the 3.0ghz run.

ran 3dmark06(basic free version) and got a 4509 cpu score! not to shabby

3.0 ghz (200x15) vcore at 1.35......NB vcore is at 1.3v and 2.0ghz, ht link speed is 2.0ghz

looks like i got a good phenom!!!

------------------------------------------

which prime95 do i need to download so i can test all 4 cores at once?
the one i got only runs the 1st core. or is there some setting?

MaxPi is a great multicore Pi calculator...it stresses all four cores pretty hard.

Run 1 instance of that along with OCCT Perestroïka and of course your temp monitoring software, and you're good to go!!

Just be aware that you are indeed stressing ALL 4 CORES, and heavily too, so your temps are going to skyrocket quickly! What's cool with OCCT is that it will dump graphs into a folder showing how hot each core got and how fast it got there, among other things.

I, too, can't hit 3GHz with my 9850. And, I'm pretty sure it's not the stepping, because it's a known good overclocking stepping...unless, somehow, ATi/AMD has changed something and steppings no longer apply.
Currently, I'm rock solid at 2.85GHz (1.3V), NB at 2400MHz(12X, 1.4V), HT at 2200 (1.4V), RAM at 1175MHz (5-5-5-15 2T 2.1V) - but am struggling to get much higher - however, I have noticed that my benchmark scores (as per Everest, Sandra,) that my system likes higher RAM MHz and tighter latencies better than higher CPU frequencies and lower RAM...

Good luck!

Mine couldn't do it under cold, but it looks like it could do pretty well on air/water. I'm waiting to buy the new crosshair though, I find it more fun to have all the hardware in my systems different.

well i see some new bios settings on the aus forum. i going to try some of those seetigns and recomendations before going thru thr whole rma proccess @ amd.

instead of reformating i will try to just roll back with ssytem restore to the install first date then reinstall drives according to the asus forum guides. with the new bios settings if that dont work i will reinstall everything. with just 1 stick of ram and the asus guide bios settings.

hoping i can get lower volts and stabler system. if not rma it will be.

Hi

I remember in my good days of M3A32, the need of use higher voltages for the same CPU(9500) clock than with MSI K9A2 Plat. or DFI 790FX-M2R, to have the system stable.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1201

Was under MSI thread but was with M3A32, as you can see in the everest picture.

DFI/MSI need ~1.3685v.

Remember 9850 it's 1.300v at default.

Have you tested NB-VID=1.3 and HT-VID=1.3 at same clocks for stability?
