If you care to read this review of the board:
    http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3129&p=1
you'll find that some straps work better with memory overclocking rather well while other give not so good results.
The 266/667 and 333/800 strap/dividers seem to give the best fsb/mem performance and overclockability ratio so perhaps you should try them.
    I tried the same kit but with 2x512Mb and i got 600MHz CL4 on 2.75V on 4:5 strap 266/667:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=3910
2x1Gb kit because of higher density of mem chips will perhaps need more voltage so expect a bit more needed if you get near 600MHz CL4 on 2.75V as i did.
    Hope it helps.

Even after a few months of owning this board, it still can give you a real headache when pushing for efficiency. hehhee

They aren't the greatest in the world. At 800 they ran with 4-4-4-12, but with 900 I had to run them at 5-5-5-15 (TRFC@ 52 and PL8). I haven't done a max speed test on them because it took very loose timings to get only 100 more mgz out of them.

thanks, but I am looking for at least 500Mhz secured to be able to play with different multipliers/straps. It gives you much more flexibility.

If you need 500+ guaranteed then you probably should go with the 8000 or 8500 kits but the Reaper X 6400 kit is a very flexible kit that can easily run CL4/5 around 800 ~ 1100mhz.

    My PC2 6400 CL4 Reaper X 2 x 2GB kit makes 1000MHz on less than 1.8v if you drop them to CL5

the other problem with this kit is that you can't fit 4 modules for 8gb total
    nice results by the way

The reaper x's were released days after I bought my reapers, too lazy to return/buy new kits. I'll just wait for DDR3 to come down when the new intel platform comes out and do a system upgrade. (Hopefully DFI won't be behind by 6 months again.)

What are the good performing 4gb kits out there that can reach 1200mhz?

    Hey there,

I'm a little lost here with my UT. I know other boards/chipsets generally reach higher FSB speeds, but I can't even seem to get 475MHz, which I think is quite a bit less than it should do.

I run it with an E8400 and 2x2GB G.Skill GBPQ DDR2-1000, BIOS is 317. The highest Prime stable clock I can reach at stock voltages is 418x9=3762, the highest FSB is 457MHz with a 6x multiplier. 475x6 runs for a while, but then Prime quits. I tried raising NB, Core, FSB and RAM voltages rather unsystematically (all of them, as well as individually), but to no avail; some voltage increases even resulted in less stability. How should I proceed to successfully reach FSB speeds my system won't do at stock voltages ?

Same configuration as you. Might work as a starting point. Posts 4374 - 4377. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...54898&page=175

Rapid OFF and ON problem [SOLVED]

I have some time in my hand last weekend and manage to find the source of problem and the solution for my p35 lt board that keep OFF and ON rapidly when being clocked high. To bad taking picture doesnt come to my mind until I solved this problem.

    > The culprit is the Mosfet heatsink itself which have a bad dimension at the screw mounting area.

    > This part of the mosfet which I boxed in red line have higher dimension thus resulting a very bad contact with the mosfet and 3 of the FET even barely touch the ramsink.

    > At first CN suggested that the backplate causing the mobo to warp but after removing it and using default mounting kit the problem still there. After a little bit a tought ; the backplate is there to prevent warping in the first place.

    > I give a shot by removing the Mosfet heatsink and find out that there a chunk of TIM on every FET there that put to much and badly applied. I guess somebody have a lazy day there. China mobo Rev. AA0

    > After cleaning the area and the heatsink with cotton bud , tissue and aceton I reapply the TIM on the every FET and put it back to see how the contact. To my suprise 3 of the FET near PS/2 barely spread the TIM which show a near no contact with the heatsink. The other 5 FET make quite a square spread with the TIM altough not perfect enough for me. I reapply the TIM 2 times to make sure.

    > So I sand down those part quite a lot which I boxed in red to make it sit lower with the mobo thus resulting both of them make a perfect contact. I retest by reapplying the TIM and got all perfect square spread on all 8 Mosfet.

    > Soo at last the mobo doesnt OFF and ON rapidly and instantly anymore everytime I start the prime95 with higher clocked about 3.9 Ghz instead of normal restart which sign of normal instabilities. Need more time to tweak.

This all leave me with a mess and lot of time troubleshooting because I havent test the mobo before finish it up with my loops. I am not happy with the time I lost troubleshooting and the the pcie layout. I will sold this mobo back and and get x38 or P45 if they come out and have better pcie layout.

I am glad you have it sorted out now but I think you miss understood what I actually said, what I was getting at was you should use a back plate to help prevent warp around the socket not the backplate causing the issue.

If you are water cooling are you using a backplate to eliminate board warp as this alone can cause reboots mainly due to the board warping around the CPU socket so much the PWM's don't make good contact with the sink & they overheat then fail/reboot.

Any way to run half multipliers with this? I see people talking about running their E8400 at 8.5x multiplier and getting better efficiency but I don't see how to input that value on this board.

    Hello everyone
I have trouble with my dfi p35 out, the problem when trying to move from expensive 550 fsb with my E8500, use 6 X, and tried many settings voltage vtt / vnb and am unable, the E8500 is tested in a commando and makes 620 fsb on Air passing SPI.

You can guide me a little?

    Thank you

Should the additional copper plate only be used together with the Transpiper, the Transpiper only with the copper plate, or the copper plate not at all ? I haven't mounted the Transpiper yet, because the case the system is in right now is not the one I'll eventually use it in, and I'm getting the impression that I have a problem with heat transfer from the CPU. SmartGuardian shows a little over 50°C for the CPU, while the Mugen (with one 120mm S-Flex) is not warm at all, not even at the base, as far as I can reach down with my fingers. The copper plate itself is as warm as I'd expect, as are the chipset/PWM sinks. I used AS5 on both sides of the plate, and the grease that came with the board between the plate and the PWM sink.

From what that copper plate looks like to me, it would only increase the CPU temp. Any time you add another layer of thermal resistance (extra layer of TIM and the copper) you would be adding to the temp of the CPU. I have the LT version, so no transpiper here, but from what I've read, the transpiper is basically useless.
