New evaporator Maze GT1 by tiborrr

Idea originated from the early models of Gosmeyer, Eleven, ... and all the other brave & innovative guys on the XS forums. I got the idea while browsing through the XS evap gallery therefor my product is nothing really new.

Although not finished yet (they are 40mm wide; final product will be 17mm high including the top, it will have 8mm suction return line), the top still lacks the proper holes for suction line & capilarity tube, they need to be cut to proper lenght. Also the channel for the DIN471 retaining ring need to be milled. But these are all minor jobs. Oh yes, forgot to mention - it has a centre suction, capilarity tube enters the evap in the chamber next to the centre suction chamber.

Those are two prototypes i have at the moment.

Nice job but I think you'll find that thicker channels will be really beneficial. Looks like a good 11-evap though

Very nice. Do you make them just for you or do you want to sell them?

    Thanks guys

I made two, one has to replace original evaporator on the Moonman's Mach I (the suction line was ruptured so i was thinking we could swap the evap aswell), the other one i planed for a upcoming R404a/R1150a 2xNL11F cascade (still some parts missing, ran out of money...).

@Moc: If the interest will be high enough, i just as might start selling them

Here's the 3D CAD model of the evaporator plastic housing / enclosure with exchangable retention clips that just went into prototype production. I should have it in my hand in a day or two. The socket retention clips will be held by a giant 60mm retention ring (DIN 471) while the rounded enclosure will be fixed permanently to the evaporator by a poliurethane foam or some other, low W/mK foamy adhesive substance.

This looks very promising! Why are you using German CAD Software in Slovenia?

Today I was playing with Tiborrr's evaporators. First I cut them with saw on the right size and then use lathe to flatten the base. Final act was polishing the base.

Design of evaporator is really nice and big plus is that it can be used for CPU and GPU cooling solution. Tiborrr and I already work on enclosures for both (cpu & gpu), first prototypes will be make in next days.

First prototype of CPU enclosure for GT1 evap. Enclosure made on lathe (2h+) and retention lasercut. Insulation and evap holder is missing.

As already said, you definitively need thicker channels. In addition I would suggest a center pole. AFAIK you need to change the evaporator so there is liquid refrigerant above the core. So let the capillary tube enter in the center or change the design so the center is always flooded. Are you going to braze the capillary tube simply in such a way into the evaporator? Take a snatch of 4mm or 6mm copper tube. Way more easier replacing the capillary tube than heating up the evaporator again.

beautiful! i don't think cap tube entering on inside will make a difference of a a couple degrees, but i really recomend 1/8" walls...

o also, how is the evap being held in the enclosure? not seeing it... No snap ring, only 1 other way i could think of but then it would sit too deep in the enclosure... maybe foam, like on vapochills?

    - render picture (I didn't pictured whole enclosure jet, I'll when 2nd fill be finished):

Evap holder needs to be cut (so it can be installed/removed from evap). Here're little pics how it'll look like on mb:

This is probaby going to be a retail version of the evaporator & it's enclosure, suitable for many popular sockets (S462, S478, S604, S939, AM2/AM2+, LGA775/771). If all goes well (bank loan) they should go into production on monday.

Enclosure and seat made of POM acetal or equivalent, backplate and multi-socket retention clip will be made of steel. Mounting holes are designed for M4 screws (therefor 4.6mm diameter as per standard).

Here's a unit i'm repairing (actually my first direct-die single stage cooling unit). This will be the first unit that will incorporate the Maze GT1 evaporator. This is Moonman's Mach I, that was originally regassed & retuned by cold_ice ~ four years ago. It was eventually ruined (broken suction line) by a so-called friend of mine to whom the unit was borrowed. Now it was up to me to repair this thinge.

I recieved another Mach I condenser from my good buddy Dimas for a bargain price of 10€ and also bought a new very flexible stainless steel suction line with 8mm copper endings for about 40€ (IMHO really expensive!), some 12-13 (38mm) armaflex pipe insulation. I even recieved a black nylon sleeve for the suction line from LittleDevil for free (thank you, Ales).

The second condenser acts as a desuperheater -> discharge -> back condenser -> front condenser -> drier/filter -> metering device

Had to bought some proper tools aswell - pipe cutter & flaring tool (around ~ 60€ alltogether).

If i'll have some spare time left this weekend, i'll braze the evaporator and few joints that are not connected yet (yes, all the compressors ports are at least hermeticaly taped down)

Please... make holes for the pipes which go to the first condensor!
If you have the money, buy a pipe bender!

I made a similar assembly in a Mach II to Chiller conversion. My next SS will be also with a Mach condensor in the back

Holes can be done, but onfortunatelly i cannot invest another 35€ this month into a pipe bender. Will buy it next month

Looking good, Moc! And thanks for the support !
