So try 5-5-5-19 insted of 5-5-5-18?

I will disable transaction boster too, and set relax to 0.

    Thanks

No. I meant the speed of the RAM, not the timings. When you set the FSB and FSB strap in BIOS, you can select only certain DRAM Frequencies.
In the BIOS, you will see "DRAM Frequency: DDR2-xxxxMHz"

    Maybe you can set:

    FSB Frequency : 400
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 400
    PCI-E Frequency: 100
    DRAM Frequency: DDR2-800MHz

    If not, try

    FSB Frequency : 400
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 333
    PCI-E Frequency: 100
    DRAM Frequency: DDR2-800MHz

Just make sure that is not higher than your rated speed of 800 MHz. Fiddle with the FSB Strap until you are able to select the right speed for DRAM Frequency.

For now, I would just set the primary and secondary memory timings as AUTO, as in
    "DRAM Timing Control: AUTO"

    ok.. !!

I had typed 400 for FSB freq earlier, but ment to type 340...

340 is what I was having problems booting with with my 400 strap.

I just successfully booted with a 340 FSB for the first time, but had to move my CPU voltage to 1.68v!!

That is rather high, don't you think?

I don't know anything about that voltage, but I'm glad you're booting.

Well booting with my 340 FSB, Vista locked up on me, even at 1.68v in the CPU. Looks like to me the CPU voltage isn't the issue? I moved it back down to 1.6250v.

I did try the 333 NB Strap, but it still would not boot if I set the FSB to 340.

Here is my current 1004 Bios settings:

Yes, 1.68vcore is very high, especially for 340FSB. You have another issue than the CPU/FSB. I am running a Q6600 and I will flash to the 1004 bios this evening and I will post my settings after getting itup and running again. I am currently runnning mine at 3.8GHz (423FSB) with 1.43vcore. It is an L737B so it will run with lower vcore but you shouldn't need that much vcore to get to 340FSB.

edit: I just looked over your settings and I would give your memory some more vdimm, like 2.0-2.1. Also change these:

Ai Clock Twister : auto or disable
    Transaction Booster : auto

disable everything under CPU config also

you can also try pulling out one stick of memory

Talonman, there's hope m8! What batch of Q6600 do you have? I am able to do 440x9 stable on 400 strap. Will post settings tonight...

Thanks ... I would love to get my speed back!!

    My Q6600 GO is L726B397.

This is how it looked the first time I ever booted it with my Maximus, still at stock speed:
She locked in at 1.224 Core Voltage. Is that good, bad, or average?

    Here's a general question:
    What's better for overall performance:
    A) faster memory, or
    B) faster FSB ?

Currently, I'm running 400 FSB and 1066 RAM. Would I have overall better system performance if I upped the FSB to 425 or 450 and (due to memory divider) dropped RAM to around 980?

In other words, is 1066 memory already faster than the rest of the system so that the FSB at 400 is now the bottleneck?

    Thanks!

Hey Talon go with Rampage bios, I am getting great results vs the formula bios, I was even able to lower my voltages a lot.

Does the Q6600 boot with stock settings in bios ?
Also 4Ghz is pretty hard to push a Q6600 for 24/7, you might have burnt it out.

    Talking

I've flashed to bios 219 today, and I must say it worked perfectly!

A lot more memory options, and no more irritating resetting if you change something in the bios.

    Intel Xeon X3360

Did you use this thread or the original? I'm hoping this thread will allow more people to flash their boards once they can see an easy method without trawling through pages and pages first.

Glad it worked out for you. Did I get the P5E bit right, disable the second LAN and the 3 OPT Sensors?

Does the Q6600 boot with stock settings in bios ?
It's NOT posting what ever I do, but now all setting are stock, and it is the same.

Also 4Ghz is pretty hard to push a Q6600 for 24/7, you might have burnt it out.
Im almost 100% that procesor isn't the fault- its the samo with Pentium D 805 (its working fine in other PC)

    Thumbs up

I used this topic, and this topic convinced to do it. I've disabled the sensors and I did'nt have any errors at all. So thats al fine.

I'm gonna try the new bios soon.
