The easy way to downgrade BIOS on ME:

If You are i.e. on 1001, flash 1001 again (will work!) and shut off Your system during flash. This board has a crash-free BIOS and will automatically tell You to insert the board's DVD after reboot. Then it will flash the BIOS from the DVD. Now You are on a very old version so there will be no problem to flash a later one.

    If nothing works nomore......:

    Really ??
Cause when I try to flash an older Bios, it cancels with an error message - something like the actual version is newer.

I would agree, Alt-F2 on boot and you should be able to upgrade or downgrade. I went from 0904 - 1004 - 1001 - 0905 - 0904 last night playing with the different BIOS, my QX9650 still ran best on 0904.

    It worked for me too!!

Using ALT + F2 I was able to move from 1001 to 0905.

My question now is. What is the best BIOS to work with a QX9650 and 1800mhz Corsair Memory?

    0904? 0905? 1004?

What's the one which has given the best results and flexibility to you guys?

    Thanks.

I for me found out that the 0905 needs less Vcore and got less Vdroop than 1004 ... but on 1004 I got better results on my RAMs better performance / tighter timings .

1004 seems great for me so far. I will report back if any issues arise.

Well have been running 1004 for a few hours now and system freezes after 10-15 minutes just doing normal tasks ie web surfing and word processing. Then after one of the forced reboots, I get a message in the system tray, that there is an error on drive C: (my RAID / Vista system drive)...

I immediately reboot and roll back to 1001. Then as windows is booting it runs the chkdsk utility. It runs for longer than usual and does find some disk errors that it corrects although no bad sectors.

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

For the last 12 hours or so since I tried 1004 (now back to 1001) I have not had a stable system for more than 10-15 mins at the most. I had no idea what was the cause of this then it just occured to me to do a disk check and it found LOTS of errors in the file system... Just can't believe this. Now I have been able to run a torture test for more than 30 mins for the first time since rolling back to 1004. IMO it semms there is some serious flaw in 1004 that mocks up the file system. I guess I cannot really say I would recommend against using 1004 since I cannot be 100% sure although I would say to anyone using this - be careful and run a disk check before it's too late - luckily I haven't had any failed HDDs - so far.

    I did.

Multi is manually set to 9.5

In Vista, running benches switches it to the 9.5 multi but switches back to 6 on normal operation.

Then try to disable Intel C1E (or something like this) in the same bios menu settings.

Does anyone know were I can find a reference that shows all the points to measure voltage from?

Found DIMM location back several pages in this post but really would like to find NB, SB, PLL, etc... DIMM looks to be about .06 over what the BIOS, Everest, etc. think it is.

It really appears that my NB doesn't show correctly but I'm not sure unless I can verify with a meter When I go over 450fsb my NB gets up into the 1.85-1.90 range but at the same time with stock cooler runs 32c. Can drop voltage to 1.60 and it will be 31c. To get stable at 485fsb I was @ 2v but still only 34c.

Another short wierd "by the way"-story :

Since I changed my Q6600 to my QX9650 the Bios was never been able to show me the correct CPU-Temp ... no matter which Bios-version !
The CPU-Temp was about 5-11°C - although the core-temps seem to be correct.
I consulted the ASUS-Support a few times and every now and then the support-team sent me some Bios-files ... some official, some not... no matter - it did not change a thing.
I upgraded & I downgraded the BIOS - no change.

But now to the wierd thing :
Yesterday I downgraded the BIOS to 0904 ( from 1004 ) the third or forth time ... and suddenly my CPU-Temp is correct displayed !
This seems to be totally illogical to me `cause I had this BIOS a number of times ....
