So this board actually has 'triple channel' memory? interesting.

right now, computers are dual channel. Think of it as a RAID-0 array with 2 disks. all the writes are split and striped between the 2 channels.

3 channel memory, is the equivalent of adding another disk to the array. This nets about a 50% boost in memory bandwidth over dual channel.

I hope they do ship the boards with the Heatsink Holes for that hot PCI-E bridge chip. Hell, I'd love to mount even a socket 478 Heatsink on my Current P35 that runs much hotter than my CPU since I can't cool it enough.

Hmm, so we should start seeing memory sold in 3 stick sets now

So we'll need three DDR3 modules for triple, instead of two or four modules into dual channel?

yes, although it will run in dual channel mode if only 2 channels are populated.

channel 0 will have 2 dimms filled, and half of the capacity in that channel will not be interleaved making any read or write requests addressed to that portion of the overall memory to have ~1/3 the bandwidth. I'm not sure, but I believe that portion of the memory is at the "end" of the list so is only accessed when the rest of the capacity is full.

this is similar to what happens now with only 3 dimms populated rather then all 4.

    Thumbs up

    Nice board!

I would like to see intel axe the 1 remaining PCI slot (legacy free!). Also, please NO onboard audio* and maybe use all solid caps.

*I have never understood why onboard audio is included on an enthusiast level board. Dont hardcore gamers buy sound cards anymore?

You dont want onboard audio but you ask for the pci slot to be removed? Where would you like me to plug in my X-FI?

True, but I would expect that Auzentech and Creative will both have high-end X-Fi PCI-E cards out by the time this board hit retail *shrug*

exactly. If he doesn't want a PCI slot they leaves him with really one choice with a soundcard, the Xonar. And I'd prefer my Prelude thanks.

I believe this has been answered before. Not only is pci-e overkill for soundcards, I believe Creative has said they tried pci-e and the added overhead did more harm than good. And the only pci-e sound card on the marked gets pwned by the prelude and x-fi (if you dont need DD Live). CMSS-3D headphone is no trivial matter, it makes world of difference in games like CS:S where hearing where one footstep came from can be the difference between life and death.

I'd think it would actually hurt sales to be pushing a $450 Asus Maxximus Extreme SLI +++ (Etc) edition board, that had no audio. Plus, hasn't anyone else noticed that pci-e parts aren't common, (there's what, one contender for pci-e wifi? maybe two for tv tuners?), and in some cases, EXPENSIVE (Xonar...)
