    9800GTX is CHEAP

not so bad? all the guys pumping the 8800GTS and bashing the 9800GTX, you might want to wait for the price next time. the 9800GTX might be well worth it for its better cooling and higher overclocks!

what do you mean bs, They do have a point, the X2 isn't that far ahead of 8800GTX in scores. Well, I wouldn't call it cheap since the 8800GTX are the same price right now. Maybe I'll just upgrade to the 9800GTX so I can get all the fancy 9 series things like better HD encoding.

Only thing that upsets me is that they stuck with a 256 bit memory interface, the 384 on the 88gtx made a huge difference for crysis

So you call a $350 card cheap?
Now what NV will charge for GX2 version?

No, what less than impresses me is that the 9800gtx (without ocing taken to account) is actually kinda a downgrade from the 8800gtx because it has the same shader count but less memory bandwidth. Of course g92 scales far better than g80 ever could and so the extra mhz will come in handy for those who like to bench

That 512MB framebuffer decision nV took for the G9x GPUs will backfire...especially with the 9800GX2.
Some of todays' and future games will fill it up easily and beg for more... and then...performance hits...

But then again...this is how they're trying to keep the Ultra alive

That would be a lot more of a valid argument if the Ultra wasn't EOL. Since when have nVidia ever let sentiment stand in the way of profit?

EOL or not, there are stores with Ultras in stock...and they don't want to keep them on the shelves

You may also want to wait for the real price, aka @ e-tailers, before jumping the gun...
I highly doubt the 9800GTX will be priced under $350, $399 sound much more likely.

Price sounds reasonable to me, as long as there are rebates etc available.

Still not regretting my $170 gts that arrives today tho .

At cebit we've heard manufacturers say 699, 599 and even 499. Most likely: 599€

you guys understand that there is no way a 384-bit card would be this cheap. nvidia and ati finally realized that they aren't selling many $500+ priced graphic cards, and they are lowering the price for almost all of their line up.

look at ati, every card they offer is less than 300 dollars, except the top of the line 3870X2. and now the same with nvidia, every card they offer is less than 400 dollars except the top of the line GX2.

big difference from the 8 series release, where the GTS 640 was 500, and the GTX 768 was 600 at launch! it gave the average joe no chance to get an 8800 series card!

this shows that the GPU market has gone too far with prices, is stagnant, and they need to lower prices. remember, for every 1 of us there are 100 average joes that prefer a cheaper GTX as opposed to a 600 dollar GTX.

we are back to geforce 3 and ati 8500 prices. and its about time.

$299 sounds nice actually. an overclocked 8800gts with opengl 2.1 for the price of an overclocked 8800gts.
i still hate how they decided to call it a 9800gtx, when 9700gtx would have done fine.

Not impressed at all by the 9800GTX. Really not impressed by the 9800GX2 and its $580 price tag.

I'd pay $300.00 for one. These could end up being real nice overclockers. Tri-SLI? Yeah that might be a nice deal too. Let's see how close they come to that price.

It all depends on the pricing. The 3800s didn't offer any better perf than the 2900, it was the pricing that made them attractive instead of another disappointment. If the 9800gtx really comes out at 299, everyone will be singing its praises, 399 and everyone will be dissing it.

Actually from testing in the 3D section,

When you overclock both cards, the G92 smokes the g80.

Because the G92 can overclock much further, much easier.
