I don't see the Inq's argumentation, can you compare both cards ? only thing is that they are both dual GPU's... and for benchers 1500 points in 3dmark 2006 is massive !!!
Secondly is the launch of the 9800X2 there to kill the 3870X2 ? Don't think so... Nvidia just wants to show off...
Thirdly if the 9800X2 is Nvidia's fastests card out of the box it MUST retail at a higher price then it's current top card... seems pretty logic... and yet again does 3dmark nowadays reflect real gaming performance...NOPE...

One thing I know is that both cards will suffer from driver issues & game compatability... they will bench like hell but might suffer from poor gaming performance till the day they are EOL
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I can't follow the point here...what exactly are you talking about?
nvidia makes more expensive cards...wasn't it the same since over a year? highest performance at highest price. anything wrong with it? just hope it will be highest performance after the first of us have benched these suckers

9800gx2 is crap, but 3870x2 is much crappier. just compare their single card analogues, the 8800gts and the 3870. its not rocket science ppl.

thats a stupid arguement, bringing up price vs perf for a high end card. Its for people who want the fastest card hands down and are willing to pay the price. These types of cards barely make more than a few percentage of sales

For any price-oriented person, no sli/crossfire solution will be 'worth' it because you are essentially paying 2x the price and will never be getting 2x more performance in games.

Some people will buy it because they need the new GPU the day it comes out, every few months. I wish I was rich like those guys.

Comparing two cards by using 3dmark06 scores makes you wonder about the first hand experience the writer has.. if any

    expensive joke
IMO, all dual GPU solutions - expensive or not - are jokes.

Did anyone stop to look at the source for the article? It's Charlie.. the ATI zealot.

He's known in all circles to hate NVIDIA, and he has close connections with people at ATI.

I'll believe that when we some real release dates and specs not something scribbled into the company roadmap.

Yea, but then you're ignoring the fact: CrossFire > SLI.

Thus, gaming has to be done with Single-GPU card and w/o SLI/CF to avoid problems. Damn, these "Performance crown!11"-cards are just useless for over 90% of "gamers".
I think 'real world games' pretty much speaks for itself - I'm more interested in how the cards perform in ACTUAL GAMES, not a meaningless synthetic 3D benchmark.

GeForce 9800 GX2 Goes on Sale

NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card is now available to pre-order from shopblt.com, for a price of $598.41. Although the release date is still unconfirmed, the site has an estimated time of arrival as 03-22-2008, which could well be the official launch day. The actual card being listed is from PNY Technologies, although no extra details are given.

I'm with you OBR. For us in the UK and around EU, this card is much more expensive. The price is in fact, very ridiculous... unless it doubled performance from a G80 Ultra. In which case, it would still be ridiculous but at least appeal to a few with money to blow or achieve to die for FPS.

What? They got 13.5k in 3dmark06 with HD3870X2? They used Intel 80386 without co processor for test? Testing cards that are bottlenecked by their test rig is like running marathon around a tree.
Inq is a joke, and thats pretty clear.

It would be nice if people would quote a 3dmark 03 score instead of the 06 score for these new cards. 06 is pretty much a cpu test these days, it doesn't scale with additional gpu power unless you overclock your cpu to extreme levels. That's great for extreme benchmarking, but not very relevant when running 24/7 frequencies.

It will be nice when 3dmark Vantage finally comes out, and we have a latest graphics benchmark that actually tests the GPU again.
