All right then.... but it will have to wait till I wake up. It is almost 6AM here so when I get up in 6 hours I will start a fresh build with a quad core that I have some good numbers on with a Mach II GT.

I said it before and still think it would be better if they made a chiller of it. How many guys are running phase and how many are running watercooling? A chiller should be cheaper to make.

Now post some OC results with that unit compared to the mach2gt please

    Take your time...

You have 24 hours counting from now

    Just kidding mate

Looking forward to it, I'm sure we can wait. Quality is what we're after; you have a stringent and arduous test setup and methodology, would be a waste to leave it short of complete coverage of the paramount bits.

But with a chiller you have afaik a greater risk off condensation or leakage, and a chiller would be larger to. And since people will want to put more then just the cpu in the loop ( probably ) you need a stronger compressor, larger condensor ect making it again bigger/heavier and more expensive to fabricate I think ( maybe the evap + suction line off a direct die system add allot to the costs so cutting them might make up for some )...

    Sorry but have to comment here;
TEC is not suitable to load test because wattage consumed will change with tempreature differences, and its a very spread out heat load test. Also since its a heat pump your absorbing more heat from the surroundings. Second, phase is easily a 24/7 manageable prospect. Many run 24/7 without problems.. Saying this matches a mach is very odd indeed and something I have trouble to beleive. All together I would not rank this a review, or even a proper testing of the unit under any grounds. Builders do not test with TEC's easier Ali, we use heat cartridges and meters to tell us what wattage we are applying to the evaporator. Lets wait for a real review guys k? And good to know the mountings at least somewhat "decent".

I am going to argue with the opinion that phase cannot be used 24/7 due to noise. That is utter garbage. There are phase systems designed to run virtually silently. I know, because I built one, and its sitting next to me right now. And I cant hear it. I can hear the small water pump in there, but not the phase system that is cooling my qx6700 B3 at 3.3 ghz with an evap temp of -43C on 75% load of all four cores. Silent.

There are loud fans and quiet fans. To make a broad sweeping statement about all case fans based off of one or two is naive and irresponsible. Same goes for phase.

Well i seen a lot of that build work by someone in the far east a fair bit and would put money on it being them that has done this.

The materials used look cheap and nasty, the over all build my son could of done better, personly bin fodder and very old news but least there has been a 3rd party to give the sub zero a go in the market.

Also after reading the article again a few points.
    -No desuperheater coil
-Cooler Express, the problems start and probably don't end there.
-Shoddy wiring and case construction (though I don't think your aluminum has corrosion, that's decently hard to cause )
    -No fan control.
-Leaving the access valve on the highside available.
    -Shoddy insulation.
-How is a tiny bit of bubble wrap "internal packaging".

The amount of problems I forsee are going to be painful. However a fan swap doesn't seem to hard, a recharge might not be too horrendous since they left the access valve on (at least high side, would have to add a low side), and definitly would want toadd a desuperheater coil, if only for the vibration dampening.

Looks like a P.O.S. to me too, and I'm no expert. TEC load-tester?!?! Even I know that that is NOT the way to benchmark coolers...

get one to someone here on XS.
one of the phasechange guys, who know this stuff inside and out.
RunMC, or the ol'bowman... (definatly miss that dude)

    that review was piss poor.
half ass, and poorly thought out.

phase change isnt for daily use?

    thats news to me.
cause I been running mine for about 5-6 years now.
    in one form or another.
its been down from time to time, so I could test other cooling stuff.
but whenever I come back to phase change, its for 1 thing.
    daily use - gaming.

yeah, this OCZ unit looks beat.
and its clearly hinted, OCZ really doesnt seem to want to release these.
whoever made them for OCZ, did a crappy job, and if I owned OCZ, I wouldnt want to release these with the OCZ name either.

the good thing is, these still seem like they should work fine.
just wont be much to look at.
which is kinda sad, cause the looks will overshadow the performance.
people always focus on the bad first. ignoring the good.
its easier to talk bad about a company, cause that gets peoples attention, then it is to say something good, cause then no one wants to hear.
    people like drama.
so the thing you will most likely hear about these is...
    they dont look great.
    not horrible, but not good.
ignoring the fact that it should be a decent performer still.
    especially at that price.

I really hope OCZ keeps this product around, and gets a new company to work on these.

I don't have any experience in phase-change, but to me the radiator and the accompanying fan (120mm?) look pretty small.

Completely agree with Kunaak. OCZ gives an exclusive review opportunity to a site that admits it is not extreme cooling orientated. It's almost as OCZ is looking for help killing off the product before it becomes available.

And then to judge it's performance using a TEC comparing it to air-cooled heatsinks. Could have at least added the Mach II to the mix.

According to this it sounds like he did but didn't include it in the review for some reason:

Both the Mach II GT and OCZ Technology Cryo-Z cool the processor right around the same, even though they use different compressors.

Can the OCZ Cryo-Z compete with a private build phase cooler (in the same price range ofc)?

Well, I'm no expert on this but for 400$ or so you would except much more. You can buy a decent freezer for that money. An that is like a 2 meter tall box not this weak ass piece of . I've never seen so weak construction on anything before. It's a joke really...

    think the contrary,
people are having very high expectations for something that costing $400, should really be expecting poor quality because of the sacrifices needed to bring the price to that point.

Well people are not blind. Nothing that costs $400 should be poor quality. You can buy a whole computer with that money. What takes more hours to build, and more expensive materials, a computer or this piece of ? I just said that a freezer costs about the same. The parts utilized in this are not that much different from those in a freezer, what makes this weak ass so expensive? The darn box, that looks made by a retard, or what?

C'mon now, I know you're not THAT naive.

You clearly have no understanding of phase and are less merited to judge the product than the reviewer is.

Maybe prices have changed since I bought the phase change units I have, but in my experience I would hardly call $400 for one expensive. Shoot I paid $400 for OP's old Mach I gpu cooler and that was a great deal at the time. I paid $800 for my Vapochill LS and $650 for a custom Baker18 cpu cooler. All 3 provide excellent cooling and except for the gpu cooler I wouldn't hesitate using them on a daily basis.

Looking at this cooler from OCZ, its definately on the ugly side, but not horrible imho. I'll wait on a better review, but if it does a respectible job with a quad Intel and is reliable, at $400 it'll be a bargan. Phase change units are not cheap.

Well I've said I'm no expert on this one but I can still spot a ty product when I see it. Let me put it another way, as by your statement I don't understand how this thing works. For 400$ you should get a shiny new box! Happy now genius?
