anybody get decent results with the vdroop pencil mod? i got it to about 105k (closest i could get) and it did zero for my vdroop. i set 1.46v in bios, and its 1.41v measured. and it drops to 1.37v at 100% load. same as before i "modded" it. and yes, i am sure i did it right.

edit also i have been noticing that guys are monitoring their southbridge temps with everest. is there any significance to this temp? i mean does it really matter much if its low or high? as it controls the third pcie slot, the one that is not pcie 2.0, shouldnt high temps only affect guys running tri-sli? and is there any way to monitor spp (northbridge) temps, or is there not an included sensor for this?

for me it has always been better to run unlinked....cause your ram and cpu can have different limits...

ok, my first mobo was DOA and replacement was working fine for a month until a couple hours ago when I restarted and it didn't boot again. "FF" code and nothing happens.
That's it!! After reading this forum I knew I had a "time bomb". Man... this sucks big time.
I'll get a replacement from EVGA, thank God their cs is awesome, but no more!! Had enough of nvgts crashes, checking MCP temps every day and testing a new driver every week hoping this time I'll get better scaling and a few more points on 3DMark from my SLI setup.
Time to unsubscribe. Good luck guys!! Thanks for all the help and info. Nvidia no more!!!

In the bios settings listed above. Why is the SATA Spread Spectrum Disabled? What does the Spread Spectrum do? The default is Down Spread. What does all this mean?

First you need a good set of sticks and if it doesn't post from bios you can always try memset in windows for some lower values...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

I'm really wondering if I should get a 780i board. I've read a lot of horror stories about them, and I have heard that the 780i doesn't OC as well as the X38 (If I don't go 780i I will go X38). What is the maximum stable OC that people have been able to get with a Q6600? (As long as it's 3.4+GHZ average I think I will go 780i)

I don't expect a ton, just the ability to get 3.6-3.6ghz on a Pentium D 915 or 3.4ghz on a q6600. As long as it overclocks decently, is stable, and supports SLI I'm happy.

Any recent board will do that mate... Only thing to check with these mobo's is to verify directly MCP temp, if it's too high from bios, you need to redo the heatpipe to lower temps... also I added a 6cm fan on the NB instead of the fan foreseen by eVGA... it's running now at a friends at 8 x 450 with his E8400 for over a week...and if it survives the LAN of next weekend I will be a happy assembler...

I'd be happy to redo the heatpipe. I've redone the heatpipe on a motherboard before and it wasn't too bad. If it would see even a decent drop in temperatures I'd be no problem for me.

I had 80°C on the MCP (Sb to me) on first boot, I was already very happy the board booted with the E8400 and 4gig ram... shut it down, redid the heatpipe and repalced the TIM with Ceramique paste... beefy 6cm cooler on the NB and hurray next boot into the bios I got 40-45°C MCP value

Say I am running a 450 FSB, I am looking to run my ram linked 3:2 at 1200Mhz.

I am looking at these (Model PDC22G9600ELK) Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) PC2-9600 1200MHz PC2-9600 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit Memory, Timing 5-5-5-12

Will this 780i board be okay to run the ram at 2.3v?

How good is this ram?
