Put your RAM in blue slots.

    Try the following settings:
    DRAM Static Read Control:-------------------------Disable
    DRAM Dynamic Write Control:---------------------Disable
    Ai Clock Twister:-------------------------------------Auto
    Ai Transaction Booster:----------------------------Auto
    North Bridge Voltage:--------------------------------1.49-1.55V

Blue slots? Are the best slots for overclock?

I thought the best slots are 2 and 4. White slots.

I agree with you, but in my experience blue slots are best slots for stability!

Maybe you did not read D3m3tr3s thread. If I understand well, He asked for stability on prime, and according to his bios settings he ran 370x9 CPU frequency and RAM at DDR3-1184Mhz 6-5-5-15 2T.

    yea.. u are right

I have some crash's, maybe for the rams are in white slots.

Im waiting for a new bios... the best BIOS for me right now is the 0904. i had tested 1001 bios and is some instable.

Asus like always in begin of new chipset's with very "fresh" mobos

i need some help or ideas....i will try to make this as short as possible

    i am running this mobo, with q6600, 2 x 1gb g.skill, silverstone 1100w psu, and 2 x 500gb wd hd's in raid 0, and evga 8800GTX.

i own 3 8800GTX's, all 3 give me the same results about 3~4000 in 3d06.

i cleaned out all the nvidia drivers, and put in an ati 3850, installed the latest ati drivers and i run 3d06 get 11,000...

i pop back in the 8800gtx.....same crappy score

i used to have the maximus se and it was the same thing, i rma it thinking it was the mobo....

i see some of you guys running gtx's and ultra's so i know its not hardware compatability...

any thoughts, ideas, or help on this...?

    I have the Q6600 running stable at 3840 max (480*8) - Vcore 1.50 V_NB 1.71. Limited by heat output / Reserator XT. 3DMark06 = 19284. 4000MHz seems to be out of reach.

Thinking to make the switch to 45nm. Considering either E8400 or QX9650. Any ideas? Will I see any overclocking benefits from going 45nm? I am not planning to change the watercooling setup as I like the XT, although of course it's not meant for high-performance WC.

Finally got around to putting my Extreme together with a E8400, booted right away and updated to latest bios to fully support 45nm processor.
Also installed Vista 32bit for the first time, installation and setting up raid0 went extremely well with no issues whatsoever.

Here's some pics of my results so far after a couple of days of tweaking. Been awhile since I've played with Asus bios, so still getting familiar with it's many settings.

I did manage to boot into windows at 4.5Ghz, but immediately crashed.
With more voltage and tweaking, I'm sure this chip can put out more

I'm obviously still in the early stages of tweaking, so hopfully squeaze out a few more Mhz

Yes I would say that those temps are not to far from the norm when not using the watercooling option and using the voltages you have. Certainly nothing to worry about in my opinion.

Well interesting enough, my NB voltage is at 1.71v and temps peak at about 45c max, no cooling whatsoever however my mobo is setup bench style.

Temps on MB are around 38c and SB is around 35c

Having said that, I did remove stock cooling and replace all thermal compound with MX-2

I haven't done that yet but I could do it.

I have some Arctic Silver 5 compound. Can I use it to the NB and SB Heatsinks?

What about the Mosfets? Arctic Silver 5 for them too?

A reduction of 15c in my NB chip would be just great

That would be a temporary solution waiting to collect some money to buy a Watercooling kit.

I applied MX-2 to everything, you'll be ok with AS5 on NB & SB, just be careful to apply very little on the mosfets

If you can get your hands on some MX-2, might be a better choice that the AS5, especially on those mosfets.

Are you running the board inverted? (i.e. with the CPU located at the bottom)

I'm guessing that this doesn't help either since running it this way I find the cooling solution loves to dump heat into the poor SB heatsink which can get mighty hot after a good prime session.

    Hi guys
just a quick question.........do you think i can use the BLACK PCI-Express x1 slot for a sata raid controller or is it working only with the soundcard? I'm using crossfire and so i can't use the white one.

I just can't get my Corsair TWIN3X2048-1800C7DFIN stable at 1800MHz.

My system is Prime95 stable at
    FSB 450
    DRAM 1500

but if I try to sett the memory to 1800 I get errors after an hour of torture testing.

    System:
    E6600
    Maximus Extreme (Bios 1001)
    Radeon 3870X2
    Corsair Dominator TWIN3X2048-1800C7DFIN

    Settings:
    Ai Overclock Tuner [Manual]
    CPU Ratio Setting [8]
    FSB Frequency [450MHz]
FSB Strap To North Bridge [266] (Tried 200 and 333 as well, no improvement)
    PCIE Frequency [100]
    DRAM Frequency [DDR3-1803Mhz]

    DRAM Timing Control [Manual]
    Command Rate: 2T
    Primary Info; 7-7-7-20
    DRAM Static Read control: Disabled
    DRAM dynamic write control: Disabled

Volts are very high since I've tried everything to get it stable:
    CPU Voltage [1,60]
    CPU PLL [1,74]
    North Bridge Voltage :[1.71]
    DRAM Voltage [1.94] (2.0 real)
    FSB Termination Voltage [1.6v]
Loadline Calibration [Enabled] Tried disabled as well

    CPU Spread spectrum - Disabled
    PCIE Spread spectrum - Disabled
C1E,CPU TM, and everything else - Disabled

    CPU and NB on water.

Anyone have any clues? I'm all out of ideas.

I have exactly the same problem. Setup is almost the same as yours - I'm running a Q6600 though. System cannot pass torture tests, and I get random lockups/freezes and odd hardware failures (network controller restarting, display driver stops working etc.)

Perhaps your CPU voltage is a tad high although this shouldnt affect memory stability. You could try to set memory subtimings as per the article. Also, consider setting ai clock twister to "strong" and transaction booster to "2". You could also loosen your primary timings a bit, although you are running on stock timings it seems. Maybe increase V_DRAM to 2.10 - all these are small changes but they might just be the right ones From what it seems you are running only 2GB which rules out 4GB as the reason for instability.

I'm using BIOS settings as per anandtech's X38 article here.

Anyway, hope someone is able to throw some light on this issue.

Going back to 400*9 DRAM 1600 @ 7-7-7-20-1T same voltages to see if it resolves the issues I'm having with stability.

Thinking about that too. Starting over from FSB 400 and see where it all went wrong...

Yes, should have it here soon also, ordered just 2 days ago. Should be nice .

Well, I've done some stability testing with FSX for the last few hours and absolutely no issues so far. Now for some overnight torture testing with OCCT: so far haven't been able to do this successfully with FSB450/DRAM1800.

Sadly the system didnt pass the overnight test despite lowering DRAM MHz to 1600. Now for a cascade of troubleshooting into what the issue REALLY is... Strange, been using bios settings exactly as per anandtechs article for core2quads (see post #467). Same thing happens every time: when I come to check system in the morning it is completely unresponsive with a black screen and I have to do a forced reboot. No idea what causes this

i had very similar problem like you, i cannot to realize this mobo super 100 percent stable at any options ( i tryed million various settings/memories/cpus/gfxs ... and nothing, system is stable but not fully in 3D games) ... this mobo is crap, now i have Striker II Extreme and i am finally satisfied with DDR3!
Now i am with Maximus Extreme stable at 450MHz, but sometimes games crashes again ... i gave up fight with this mobo ...
