AFAIK there's not yet any memory out there that is 4GB alone. As for DDR2 that is.

Ahaa! I found that Crucial carries DD2 memory that is (4gb x 2)

Select DD2 > deselect all the densities except for 8gb.

Although it's far too expensive.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but is 8 gigs REALLY that much better than 4? Any benchmarks (real world is where its at)?

I'd consider dropping 300 on 8 gigs of ddr2 800 ram (the new 2x2 crucial kits look nice) if the increase is really THAT much.

it helps if you're playing certain games or doing video editing and working with raw data which goes directly to RAM for faster access. I run, actually ran 4x2GB on my BADAXE2 with a QX6700 347x10 1.45v - RAM at 5-5-5-12 1.96v DDR867



Again if you're not doing alot of multi-tasking and or working with video/audio and similar applications that eat up RAM, then 4GB is plenty.

Same here, 8 GB and NO Pagefile , Vista is liek a breeze
But with 4 GB and Without Pagefile i usually end up with BSOD's so 4 GB is not enough

Just ordered a Q9450 and 8GB of RAM, intend running Vista x64 with no pagefile. I'm hoping for a big difference over my Athlon XP-M ^_^

there is a certain thing called ramdisk. it really becomes an interesting thing with that kind of ram capacity.

I have been looking for a thread like this for weeks now. I love these forums.

I've now decided that there's no point waiting and waiting and waiting for X48 mobos to hit the streets just so I can run 8 GB's with a modest overclock. My new rig is watercooled with a great deal of additional untapped cooling capacity, so I am going to pull the trigger and update the electronic bits.

Broke down today and bought my DFI LP LT P35 T2R and 8GB of G.SKILL 8GB(4 x 2GB) DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000). I will be borrowing a quad core from work until I get the money for a processor (damn headgasket in my truck blew out). This has 2 upsides though. I get to wait and see what the new quads can do when they hit retail... if that ever happens. And I also have an older CPU that I can use to upgrade my bios to the 45nm quads, woot.

Interesting you mention that. I do some audio conversion work. I also plan emulating vista in ubuntu and the more ram, the better. I could probably get away with 4 gigs, but I'll have to see. If 4 gigs isn't as responsive as I like, I'll go to 8 gigs.

Nice case man, i've been lookin at getting one, you happy with it except the "tooless" stuff???

So far so good. The tooless design of this case sucks, both the 5.25 drive bays (if you mounting anything other than disc drives) and the PCI bracket sucks also IMHO, you have to kind of balance all the cards in place while you try to shut the tooless arm...

Other than that stuff I really like the build quality and the mesh/window option. Tons of room for routing cables behing the motherboard tray. I went from a Lian Li to this and the build quality is top notch. Not a big fan of the snap in front as I like to remove mine a lot to clean etc and it kills the fingers.

If you are looking at watercooling the Swiftech 2x120mm radiators will line up with the fan holes in the back for a really easy install. As you can see I went bigger haha. Also the back plate is steel which REALLY adds to the support of the case as a whole. And the 2 side mounted 80x15mm fans are nice for HD cooling. Also I replaced all the fans because the were pretty low CFM.

For around $150 you really cant beat this case IMHO. It's big, good looking and very functional, besides a few minor hang-ups, but I have yet to see "the perfect case"

i have 4 1gb sticks and my machine chugs along at 3.4ghz easy. ive done some benchies at 3.6 but dont run it there 24/7, i like keepin it lower volts and great temps.

q6600 of course.
