What else to I have to select do on this wintel rig to make it go faster?

Also is it an Asus feature that the power putton has to be pressed twice to post after it has been swiched off at the wall? If the power has not been cut from the wall the power button works first time.....

    What bios are you using?
Certain bios wont disable speed step at all.

You have to disable C1E as well.

Ah thats what C1E does. Will it cause issues enabled when overclocking?

Some say yes, some say no.

I always disable it to avoid potential problems.

Are you guys using the Asus drivers from the cd that came with the mobo? I've read that the Asus Wifi-AP solo driver is terrible and that I should use the Realtek drivers. Can anyone comment on this?

The mobo will set the mem timings/frequency according to what the SPD

will indeed set it up to this spec, but here is the problem it will only provide
it 1.8 volts (based on the DDR2 JEDEC specification). This causes the black
screen no post because your memory manufacture (Like most performance
memory manufactures) can only provide those frequency's, and timings if
the memory is overvolted beyond the DDR2 JEDEC specification (i.e. 2.0-2.1v).

I fixed mine by modding my SPD so the mobo thinks my mem is ddr2 667mhz instead of the actual ddr2 800mhz. So If it boots up and tries to set the mem
timings/frequency/voltage automatically it will only set it to 667mhz which
works fine at the standard 1.8v. Im now able to set the timings/frequency/voltage manually in the bios to 800mhz 4-4-4-12 2.1v.

So here's how you fix it google SPDtool and DL it.
Run it, go to file, and select read (chose one of your highend mem modules)
Save this as your orig SPD
now in the bottom pane scroll down until you find:
"SDRAM Cycle time at Maximum Supported CAS Latency"
    Change it to "3.00ns (333mhz)"
Save the new SPD and write it to your mem modules.

    Good Luck
    Thanks very much CrazyNutz.

Northbridge works easier with 2 memory modules than with 4. Try raising voltages.

Just a quick update. Maybe it will be of interest for someone wondering how well 8800gts scales in 3dmark06 when overclocked.

Here are the stock settings 675/1674/900

and here are the overclocked settings 750/1860/1100

I haven't tried higher settings. These seem rock stable without overheating the gpu too much. The temp reaches 79c versus 76c without overclocking.

    Hi!

Is there any new( or final 1006 ) BIOS for the P5K-E/Wifi? Since I flashed the 1006 beta I've got some problems with my mobo. Sometimes it dose not start when I press the power button, and after a CMOS clear it starts. Even after some reboot sequences the RTC shows false time( in Windows and in BIOS as well ), it differs from the actual about 30-60 min. Has someone experienced such things? I have no idea, that my mobo went wrong, or its just a BIOS bug( I hope its just the beta BIOS ).

oops yes of course, here it is:

    q6600G0 @3,2(8x400)/1,28V ( fft stable )+TRU120X
    ballistix 1066 on spd/2,1V( i.e. 5-5-5-18-40 -blend stable)
    p5k-e wifi
    (
every voltage of the board on the minimum,
    except the N/B = 1,4V& PLL=1,6V
    load line calibration enabled
    dram static read control disabled
    pci-e freq 100 mhz
    the others are auto
    )
    Gainward 8800 GTS 512
    corsair hx620
    samsung sp160

It was totally stable with these settings with former BIOS releases. I tried to mess around with some other settings, and tested again the old( written before ) with prime, no errors no warnings. The errors( no reaction on closing the power jumper, RTC clock failure ) are produced randomly.

Have you tried setting the voltages to AUTO except for cpu and ram?

Another guess, try 5-5-5-15 instead of 18? 40 doesnt divide by 18 and I read somewhere on this forum that the biggest latency should be the sum of the first 3, which in your case(mine too) is 5+5+5=15, but that is only a guess as it worked stable with the previous bios.

I would try 2.2 on ram(even though it is rated 2,1) @ 15-5-5-5 rest on auto. Set all voltages to auto except for cpu and ram. Worked in my case although I had to pump the volts on ram to 2,25 for my 800 stick to work fully stable @ 950.

I tried to mess with BIOS settings, so i think that its not the source of the problem. I'v tested it a lot, and no errors so far, its just randomly no turning on and changeing the clock, i aint got an idea, what coud be the cause of this. May the battery be low?

It might be that when you change the settings often, and leave some of them on auto the previous ones are saved instead of the BIOS detecting them. Maybe try leaving the current settings for the next few shutdowns/power ups and see whether the problem still exists?

I dont changed my setting for a week ago. Except the CMOS clear( once on the weekend, when the machine didnt turned on all the same I pressed the power button), but after that the OC profile was set, so often BIOS setting changes could not be the problem. But I observed, that the latency of the CMOS clock is appears not randomly, it just seemed me as it were random( cause I turned on my computer randomly ). It has a constant latency, about one hour 4-5 minutes! Has someone seen such so far? I have experienced such things when my battery charging level got low in my wirst watch. Could be the situation the same with my mobo?
