I think it might be mem related then.

Since over 1800, the mem controlled really relaxes itself, and then that is why the big performance drop.

Maybe the mem controller can't handle 4gb well.

Have you tried just one 2gb stick? or 2x1gb sticks at 1800?
In my experience, the mem controller handles 4GB exceptionally poorly. I finally gave it up just to have more OC headroom. With 4GB I couldnt get much higher than 3.0 (1333QDR) with Q6600. As soon as I removed 2GB this issue resolved as well as frequent random BSODS etc. IMO 4GB is just not worth it with this board.

I have a perplexing situation with this board.

I can do pretty much anythng I want unlinked up to 450 fsb, and 4.2 ghz, prime and orthos stable for > 1 hour.

However when I run 3DMark03 or flight simulator, I get random reboots, freezes, etc.

The only way I can get around this is to set fsb to stock (333) and use my multi's to get 3.8, 4.0, 4.2 etc. Bandwidth sucks @333 though.

    Any Ideas??

Phew! Just back to 3-SLI after one of my dogs (XFX 8800GTX ) got damaged as I spilled a little H2O on it last time I tried to set up 3x GPUs in a WC circuit.

I just got a replacement card today after I had to RMA the broken one. Was real nervous as I set about to mod the system - and there I go breaking off two capacitators from one of my precioussss dogs in the process.....

Luckily the system booted with all three GPUs and I have just been able to enable 3-SLI. Trying to WC one GPU can be hard enough, but 3... dont even get me started... let's just say it's a messy process!

Just thinking... should I run the latest beta forceware driver (171.16) or 169.25? Any experiences anyone?

Striker II watercooling: CPU/chipset/GPU single/multiple loop - ideas anyone?

Rather quiet around the striker ii thread lately. Everyone busy gaming or have you guys given up on this board already?

I'm not ready to give up yet as I do quite like the board despite it's weaknesses - the biggest one IMO being the massive heat output of that pesky 780i chipset. Can't stand looking at that NB temp around 77-80 idle... surely it can't be good for stability. And thats with a modest 400FSB and 3x fans directly cooling the NB/mosfets - it's simply unbelievable how hot this chipset gets.

Also, 3-SLI can output some serious heat too, and as cool *looking* as the Zalman Reserator is, it's doing a rather poor job of trying to keep my dogs (xfx 8800gtx) cool. Hence, I am on the verge of doing a serious mod to my existing WC setup(s) - first the striker will get redone then the maximus will get a serious overhaul (EK and DangerDen have both released waterblocks for the 3870X2... )

So, I have found some waterblocks custom-built for the striker ii at mips - both NB, SB / PCI-E 2.0 chip as well as mosfets.

In my Tt Armor case I can fit one 3x120mm rad inside and I am also planning to attach another 3x120mm rad to the exterior.

I already have one swiftech pump (sig). It's certified for 1200LPH and 3.5 bar. Now, I am not at all sure if this pump will be sufficient if i decide to go for one loop i.e. CPU, chipset, GPUx3. Any thoughts on this? Will I require a separate pump and loop? Or maybe a total of 3 loops (i.e. one 3x120mm rad for each loop)? I dont care about noise anymore, I just want the most extreme cooling for all components. Space is a limiting factor though, as I dont think I will be able to fit more than 1 pump inside the case, and I have mixed feelings about keeping another pump at the desk outside the case.

Also, if i decide to go for multiple loops, I'm inclined to run the CPU as a separate loop, thus combining chipset+GPUs. It makes sense to me to do it this way to maximize the OC headroom for the CPU.

Looks like with the new setup I can safely retire the Reserator - or wait! Maybe instead of putting it away I might let it cool one of the mosfets just to keep it employed sort of... considering it's good looks after all. It will be much harder to retire the Reserator XT however as I've been very happy with this unit so far, but hey! That's what you get for hanging around these forums

Note: I decided to open a new thread on this topic in the liquid cooling section: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=178534

I've been having a lot of crashes in 3D lately, both with SLI and non SLI. And regardless of if I increase volts, or decrease clocks.

    Passes orthos no problem though.

Could be driver-related. I had lots of odd artifacts and also random lockups running games/3D applications with the 171.16_beta drivers - even with the Vista "energy" screensaver I got glitches. This all resolved when I rolled back to 169.25. Can you complete 3DMark?

Nope, not driver related. When I set fsb = 1333, all's good. Can up the multi's to whatever, and it's still good.
When I venture up the slightest bit in fsb, orthos/prime95 pass, 3D games and benchies freeze/crash/reboot.

and i was fine with the 171.16 for weeks, but then i try to hit 4.5ghz.

The new DDR3 version of this board, Striker Extreme, seems very good , FUGGER is hitting 600+ MHz on FSB with Wolfdale.

It's in the 3dmark section under Kingpins thread!

I blew a memory module up a while ago and now got a replacement and before where I could do 480FSB now I am having problems anywhere from 400 to 450, depending on which way the winds blows to coin a phrase.

Not sure if I hit a perfect spot for voltages before or whether I have damaged the board when the ram module shorted. I'll have to go back to one stick and see what happens. It's definitely a FSB thing rather than memory speed though.

    Frustrating.

Yeah, there seems to be some bandwidth limits with this board. Where even frequency increase doesnt help.

My write speed is always around 9590mb/s.

    Even from 1100mhz at 5-5-5, to 1200mhz 5-4-3.

Once i cross 1800FSB though, it goes up to 10.2gb/s, even though mem is same speed.

BUT then latency shoots up 30%

My problem is that the previous striker II I had,had a big performance increase when changing trd.Setting from auto to 5 had readings from 9200MB/s to 11400MB/s.This one doesn' change anything.Flashed diferent bios but nothing

Atm Im testing this board, haven't had lot of time but there are lots of memory performanceholes in the 450 - 490 region. beta 1001 ist quite buggy, what do you guys get if you set fsb in bios to 500MHz with bios 1001 (look also at mem freq )

Looking at BIOS 1001 versus 704 it's interesting to note what the default BIOS voltages are when first booting up

    704 and 1001

    NB voltage 1.23 v 1.44v
    CPU PLL 1.52 v 1.60v
    CPU VTT 1.10 v 1.42v
    DDR2 term volt 0.94 v 1.15v

Is 1001 any better or have they just zero'd in the voltages?

I'm running 1.66v on the NB now to get 450. I used to be able to do 480 so I am not sure what is up.

    Here's my rig

    http://www.zen141854.zen.co.uk/7802.jpg

Even with the 7000rpm delta on the northbridge it is still warm.

I'm still not convinced that running out of sync and unlinked for massive memory clocks is the way to go when it comes to real world benches such as pifast or 3dmark 2001 lobby. What you gain in pure bandwidth you lose in latencies etc. That was the case with the 680i chipset anyway.

However when I run 3DMark03 or flight simulator, I get random reboots, freezes, etc.

The only way I can get around this is to set fsb to stock (333) and use my multi's to get 3.8, 4.0, 4.2 etc. Bandwidth sucks @333 though.

    Any Ideas??

I've just been having exactly the same problem, everytime I go into 3dmark2001 nature it locks or the screen corrupts. The other DX7games actually pass fine, but this DX8 game fails. WOuld do 450FSB for all the other tests but had to role it off to 400FSB to get it to pass.

This is the first time I have ever had the FSB effect 2001 nature like this, normally it is only the video card memory or gpu speed/temp. If anything high FSb would blow up lobby game.

To fix it I have defaulted the BIOS and simply upped the memory voltage and the cpu voltage, no more. Can you try the same on your machine and see what happens?

This is a tricky board to zero in and it is all down to the 780i chipset and what it likes ( very little ) and what it does not like (an awful lot). The actual board is great though.

    Let me get this straight.

You want me to set up an OC, and then auto all the voltages except Vcore and Vdimm??

If that's the request, I've already tried that to no avail.

If that's not the request, please be more specific..

Default the BIOS using the button. I assume you are using the latest BIOS which 1001 or such from memory.

Then set the memory voltage to whatever you had before, in my case 2.4v

Set the cpu to the voltage you use, in my case at the moment 1.5v for testing.

    Do nothing else.

Does it still fail? In that case it is a different problem to mine.

Hi guys. New to this forums.. anybody here on a conroe? This is the best I do with this board:

    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=323772

Ive tried 0101 and 0902. Both have the same outcome with the procie.

Processor may have a bad yield.. used it on a striker extreme before, and does not go pass 3.9Ghz.. Temps are a sound 35 on idle, 63 on load on that board. I get the same outcome with the Striker II Formula.. Can get a higher FSB on the board though.. Ive topped 475MHz FSB on it @ x6.

Imo, wasnt a good move to go Striker 2 Formula from Striker X. 3dmarks are better on it though.. about 200pts better. not worth it.

Also can I ask if anybody here knows where can I find the option in which I can enable hardware mode for the onboard NIC? I cant seem to find it in nVidia cp.. I had that option before when I was on a Striker X.. Im on XP SP2 btw, with current updates.

475MHz FSB is not bad on this board. IMO this board is mainly for 45nm support as there are not many other updates compared to Striker Extreme.

    Btw... to XS!
