Weird, have you tested your ram?

It's been a while since ive overclocked or anything, but i got a new EVGA 780i mobo and a e8400 and i decided to give it a shot.
    Batch #: Q747A377 Pack Date: 02/05/08
I'm too embarrassed to post pictures, mines only running at a paltry 3600Mhz(400x9). I think it could probably do better, but I'm not quite ready to do vdroop yet. My voltages are as follows according to BIOS
    core 1.4125
    FSB 1.3
    Memory: 2.3
    nForce SPP: 1.4
    nForce MCP: 1.55
HT nForce SPP <-> MCP: 1.25V
Another interesting problem is that the ram isnt stable past 1000Mhz, even though its rated for 1066 and my old 680i board boasted 1200Mhz stable.
Temps are around 40C according to CoreTemp and bios, so im just curious as to why it wont boot any faster. More voltage? Bad Chip? Need vdroop?
Any ideas would be appreciated, I want to make sure this chip isnt a dud before i spend all the effort and take the risks involved with adding on my SS phase unit. Thanks in advance!

I had to bring my memory down from 1000 to 800 to get 445x9 (1780QDR) stable. Not sure, Its new technology though so it can only get better. But i'd have to go and say the chip is a dud, You've got alot of voltage on it and its not really getting anywhere. I'd have to go with return it.

You mean like log below. Its why i quit using orthos small ffts of 8k looped over and over, and use either custom runs of 8K-64K (or 8K-256K/512K for ram also) or prime newest version 8K-64K.

I have a MSI P35 & thought I could do better with a Evga 780i. The MSI board will do 8x500 FSB @ 1.337 Volts. The 780i board barely does 9X400 @ 1.4V & resets bios randomly even though orthos is stable for 12+ hours. I even did the pencil mod & have the latest bios too. My guess is that with the cheapo capacitors & vdroop this board won't even do a mild overclock. I have since switched back to my P35 & happily running at 4 ghz. Also, My ram does 1066 at 2.1V & if I push it to 2.3 it does 1200 with relaxed timings.

I am so unlucky. my cpu needs much voltage for 4.05 and there is fifteen C between core temps when they are idle. they are equal when they are loaded. batch:q746a516 keep away from it

Kadir, what voltage does it need for 4050?

Don't worry about the temp issue, almost everyone has it. ignore it!

hahahaha, if you complain like this then what should i do???? Cant even RMA the board, dunno whether they will honor it or not, since its just overclocking which is not working properly.

Yeah well mine does that EASY - you don't know how good your chip is unless you test it, and the tests we use are far more efficient and a run of SuperPI, so you really do not know about your chip yet.

I have the exact same batch# and pack date, and mine is not that great either. 3807mhz (8 hours prime) is the best I can do without going past the 1.36vcore (safe limit). One thing I think you may try is keeping your FSB at
1.10v this seem to make mine the most stable, however I am on a p35 I don't
know if/how it will pan out on your 780i. Oh an keep your GTL low.

Yeah I was gonna say, I don't go below 2M SuperPI, b/c 1M is done way too quick with these chips. But even then, SuperPI doesn't tell you jack in terms of stability - and just ends up being e-peen with no real-world impact (e.g. gaming performance). OCCT or 10K prime, OTOH? Yeah I'd trust those alot more instead.
