    Also the HD 3870 X2 will come along with the new PLX chip that supports PCI Express 2.0 somewhere in April. So, anyone wanting a 3870x2, just hold on till then to snatch a card. it should have slightly more bandwidth equaling more power.

    That PLX chip that supports PCI Express 2.0 already came with HD 3870X2 since day one

    No, you're wrong. 3870X2 actual bridge chip is not PCI-E 2.0

    Nope, it isn't PCI-E 2.0. The reason that they used a non 2.0 bridge was so they could get the card out when they did, instead of launching in April.

    I think that it is pci-e 2.0, but i´m not sure. I only read somewhere that it was 2.0.
    But you should be right, otherwise vr-zone didn´t said that.

    EDIT:
    http://www.plxtech.com/products/expr...e/switches.asp

    By their page your right
    But, it is a 48 lanes PCI-E 1.1 witch I think that is more then enought for this card.
    ATI should replace this by the -> Gen 2 PEX 8624 24 lanes <- because offers the same bandwith (24 lanes PCIE 2.0 = 48 lanes PCI-E 1.1) and is mutch smaller -> 19 x 19mm versus the older 37.5 x 37.5mm.
    This will permit shrunk the PCB of the HD 3870X2.

    Yup I confirm that. In a X38 motherboard the card uses PCI-E 1.1 . The number of lanes is 16x3=48 : 16 for one chip, 16 for the other and 16 to communicate with the PCI-E bus. Replacing this with a PCI-E 2.0 bridge with only 24 lanes will result in 8x3=24. PCI-E 2.0 8x bandwidth is the same as PCI-E 1.1 16x, so you will see zero perfomance increase. If that chip is indeed the one they will use, the only benefit you can obtain from it compared to the actual chip is shorter cards, not faster ones. Pretty stupid if you ask me. They should use a 48 lanes PCI-E 2.0 chip to gain something.

    Someone somewhere else stated that you can force the driver through device manager on 3870 and 3870X2 cards and it will work, just not detect the correct lablels for these cards. Supposedly, CrossFireX works in this driver using the device manager method.

    Damn, we need 780G boards! There are lots of customers who need budget setup and then later adding HD3450/3470 they can get improved 3D performance for cheap.

    YES, finally! Edge enhancement control! That is one of the best features of ATI VGAs regarding video quality, along with color (contrast & quality). Bring them now!

    I forced the driver to install as HD2400 and it works (HD3870X2 single card)

    HD2400 average = 41 fps in crysis @ 1680x1050
