For any reason, 9800GTX needs at least this one thing to lessen the fuzz around it, and thats the bus width. Even at 384 bit, it would make this card good to be called a GTX, and a 512 bit to make it a real 9800GTX. Nvidia might just be using this card for the lack of a significant competition IMO... Anyway, i don't care about this card and i aint buying it. This card seems to have a lesser time in the market than the 8800GTX, before it will be EOL'd ...

If these cost 50$ more than the 8800GTS, I feel like this is going to be a complete rip-off...

Lets hope that ATI's next offering does better. Or does NVIDIA already know?

Yep , i think the main reason for 9800 launch its Tri-Sli support

because with 8800GTX/Ultra EOL there is No card with Tri-Sli support so they release 9800 , litle better than 8800GTS but with tri-Sli support

    regards

Gee, I play games at 1920x1080(42" panasonic plasma), and my GTX has been handling everything I throw at it besides crysis with NO complaints.

Frankly, I don't see too very much of an issue with the stagnant gpu market. Means developers have to actually optimize for the current architectures, no?? At the very least, it's made the 8800GTX one of the best gpu investments in quite a long time. About a year and a half and still nothing has managed to make it look weak!

Moral of the story is, just hold on your 8800gtxes. They've got little more life in them then originally expected.

The only difference between that an my BFG OC GTS is that the core-shader ratio is different (by about 12MHz). 1100MHz seems to be my wall (on air) for memory but I believe overvolting the VRAM can give a little more head room.

Are they simply rebranding the GTS as the GTX by overvolting the memory by (probably) just enough to ensure it beats a stock clocked 3870x2?

Can we expect to see OC'd 8800GT being sold as 9800GT?

Will the Ultra be a similarly specced G94?

This is almost as lame as Mitsubishi's transition from the EVO 9 to EVO 10, they just stuck an 'X' on the end

This is a great example of why I do NOT wait on potential future products to determine my builds. I simply get whatever is best at the moment. I've found that I loose the same amount of money if I'm constantly reselling technology that is newer and still holds its value rather than holding on to something for 2 years and selling it for pennies.

I'm glad I went for the 8800GTS when most everyone else was waiting on this card. I've enjoyed the last few months of Crysis with it.

    A 8800GT that performs better than some 8800GTSs, a 8800GTS 512Mb that performs better than a 8800GTS 640Mb and a 9800GTX that will probably have less performance than a 8800GTX.

nVidia is being a real "gentleman" for its less-informed costumers. Especially when it comes to erroneously naming it's graphics card in order to
    a) emptying older cards' stocks (8800GT>8800GTS 320/640Mb)
    b) getting it's clients to pay some extra $150 for a card that supposedly belongs to a new generation and in fact only has higher-clocked memory (8800GTS 512Mb = 9800GTX).

So... $50 for an X in the title, higher binned/overvolted RAM and a few extra PCB tracks. I suppose we should have seen this coming when the GTS moved to G92.

tbh this is the first time I regret I did not buy a high-end card. this was perhaps the best deal for the past five years.
