I'm not sure changing any of the voltages will solve it, i've tried increasing them with no sucess so I'm starting to think it's a compatibility or bios issue or both, at first I thought memory but it's passing every test i'm throwing at plus I've run it at much higher speeds in my previous mobo with no issues.

Large vdroop even with the pencil MOD, not very powerful in the OC...
Nice to see you solved it. This board come with a loadline calibration function to avoid vdroop, so that pencil mod is not needed anymore. Except the delays (2months too) I was always happy with ASUS RMA. They cause no much problems.

Yeah, something wired with your config, especially that it does it on stock settings too

Jonny FTM - out of interest what BIOS are you on and what settings are u running. My CPU will run 475x8 but I just cant get it stable - probably not upto it but every so often I have a go at trying to get it running 3.8 just to give me something to do.

Not as easily as 475x8. Got most of the answer from JonnyFTM sig but interested to know if he using transaction booster and what PLL ,fsb,nb settings. I am also trying to keep the volts down as I am on air.

    Happy to help of course.
I edit my signature to reflect bios 0504 I'm using. I never gave 0404 a try though, so can't compare as I'm happy with 0504

The bios settings are exactly the screens you see in my signature. Click the link, there are tons of photos with the bios screens

All is explained in that post: Static read control is enabled to boost memory, Transaction booster can't be enabled with that OC on my RAM, it is disabled with relax 0. Relax 3 looses much performance on RAM (see the table in my post)
vPLL is miimu at 1.50v (you have to try, really depends on CPUs, 1.70 is deadly and useless)
vNB is 1.40 and vFSV only 1.30

I think it is a luck issue too. Like CPUs, some boards overclock better than others and my cooling helps much (you see I removed all stock cooling and replaced with advanced coolers) and I'm water

4GHz will be only a CPU issue if you go with 9x445 as the board easily scale FSB with a quadcore. You'll need so much vcore for 4GHz as I see you're already at +1.5vcore for 3.8GHz. I think someone needs a really good chip or phase

word. this is a 1.275 VID G0 first batch jobbie that eats volts like pasta. I could probably get away with 1.45-1.475 at 3.8hz, but heat isn't an issue and I really don't care if I kill it. This board, cpu and ram are going DICE/LN2 just for practice/experience so I'm already at the point where if it fries, I won't lose any sleep lol.

Thanks - similar to the setting I use. .I suspect I have jsut reached the limit of my CPU with the volts I am prepared to go to. My version of the MB has mixed blue/red capacitors which may be reduce my overclockabiliy slightly. . Not convinced over benefits of replacing the stock HS on this MB with seperate NB and Mofsets coolers but they certainly look good - lol!.

Yes, with the fan you use, I also suppose it is the CPU limit with your setup. 3.6GHz with air cooler is already a great OC in my opinion.

So give it juice. The mb won't limit you as it does easily 450MHz with a quadcore

On ASUS board, the sensor used to be something between NB and RAM. Through many tests I did, and that others also did, if you put a fan on the NB or the RAMs the temps will decrease drastically. If you well cool both, it will decrease furthermore. Those were tests on the P5B Deluxe though. With the P5K Premium, I don't think is different.

Only the new high end X38 boards have sensors for the NB

35°C system temperature is ok. Maximum is ususally around 50°C. Try OCCT in RAM mode, it will stress the NB-RAM the most and max out your system temperature if you want to be sure

Yes, you got a good chip. You need much more volts than mine, but it heats less. My previous L734B also heated less than my actual L740B despite needing 0.1v more vcore at same clock. I did prefere the lowest vcore since it will stress less my components (mb, PSU) and my electric bill :-)

Yes, you got a good chip. You need much more volts than mine, but it heats less. My previous L734B also heated less than my actual L740B despite needing 0.1v more vcore at same clock. I did prefere the lowest vcore since it will stress less my components (mb, PSU) and my electric bill :-)
I'm not really sure if I would call it good, but it's definitely not the worst out there. It's a L723B509, which is one of the older G0's that I've seen around here.

Try to reach the OC you look for. If you can reach it with current bios, no need to update. If you have trouble to be stable where you like, you can update bios to 0404 and if still not, to 0504

    the BIOS ???
    the max vcore is 1.70v

i use SS, cascade and ln2

its not enought to benefit of these "extremes colds"
Capacity to modulate the vcore by this trimmer more than allows the BIOS is the reason

so, I thank the P5K Premium

it allowed under SS my powerful current E2140 to make the 4th world score of E2140 under Superpi 1M

Under the cascade 2 stages and the ln2 and on this Premium it will be able to precisely make better (thanks to the vmods also)

    see youn later
