I believe it's the Nvidia chipsets that don't like to run higher FSB. However, with Intel chipsets, it requires more northbridge voltage to run higher FSB so you may try that if you have the option in your BIOS.

i had the similar problem a while back, initially cpu was ok, then random bsod, i had to run it at stock, any overclock over 3.2 would blue screen, adjusting gtls helped alot in booting and B/S.

scary part was when screen shows raid array members ofline in red, couldn't boot at all, i was thinking all my data will have been lost. thankfully it returned normal after many hours of reset /clear cmos.

i reinstalled xp on another hdd, in ide mode, problem went, when i set raid in bios problem returned.

i changed for another e8400, so far it boots my raid array overclocked. will see how it pans out.

I've changed MOBO from Abit IP35 to DFI X38 and it's looks a little bit better.
    BIOS settings:
    vcore 1.36v
    NB 1.33v
    VTT 1.25v

Maybe try a VTT of stock 1.10v or 1.13v. I believe yours is a bit too high for this chip.

    FSB Hole

With 2000 fsb you mean 4x500fsb right? I'm experiencing the same problem a you.
8x500 runs fine but 8x503 to 520 gives me BSOD's during start up or in Windows. 9x466 runs like a charm though

Is this the so-called FSB-hole kicking for me at 8x503 to 525?

    For the moment i'm running my E8400 Q746A556 8x500 @ 1.26v

Demon pls give us a prime95 small ffts test with at least 2 hours of running... If it can do it with that voltage, u have a great chip!

Will do. I've been running Orthos small ffts for an hour and a half yesterday and all was well. Hadn't had the change to make a screenshot though, my girlfriend turned the system off when going to bed

I guess many of us had problems with Wolfdale CPU temp and this guy says most of our Wolfdale are shipped with faulty temp sensor:

    http://www.cpu3d.com/content/view/4016/16/

How true is this and if it really is faulty, is Intel going to do something about it? This sux!

Is CPU-Z reporting the right CPU voltage?

I am running 500x8 with 1.36v set in BIOS on my Abit X38, but CPU-Z reports about 1.26v, if my memory serves me.

I think my CPU can run small orthos for a few hours no problems, watercooled, I can't remember how long I left it running TBH. I am not a stress test junkie, if it play all my games etc......

I aways assumed CPU-Z was wrong

Unfortunately CPU-Z does not detect the correct Vcore in some cases. Please download V1.44.1 and that should fix it.

I've changed VTT 1.15v and it's working ok.
About my temperatures - I'm waiting for new CPU, because main have got faulty thermal sensor - I'm sure it is not 77 degrees but less - my Heatsink is not even worm.

Personally, if that's the only problem mine has is a faulty temp sensor, I'll keep the one I have.

Sorry, but that made me laugh

Temps are pretty messed up with these CPU's.

Regarding CPU-Z, I think I have that version, I will double check when I finish work.

Intel has already stated that the DTS is not to be used as a temperature reference for desktop processors. So no, there will be nothing done by Intel about this.

Yes, I use version 144.1 . both CPU-Z and SG report vcore to be 1.26v onder load. This is almost the same as I set in the bios.

I run the same board as you,cpu-z will show 1.36v idle and 1.344 under load while bios says 1.36v. Funny thing is that when I use 1.39 in bios, cpu-z/sg show 1.408/1.40 respectively.
I don't believe any of them and think it's time to find my volt meter to take some readings later.
I am on the 02/13/08 Beta bios btw, although I got the same readings off 12/24 like you are running.

Using the Asus AI Suite, I get temp readings of 35 at idle/53 load using the stock cooler with AS5. That sounds about right to me. Even if the sensors used by Core Temp are a bit wacky, I'm inclined to believe that the AI suite os giving me the proper readings as these are similar to those I got with my E6300 back in the day...

Unfortunately my chip doesn't show the correct temp with Core Temp nor Everest. Earlier on I thought it's a problem with the BIOS or Core Temp but looks like its a faulty thermal sensor.
