Hey all... I've been looking to OC my set up since i've put this system together. I'm a total n00b at this and would really appreciate some help in figuring this whole thing out. I would like to get this over 3.33Ghz if possible.

The furthest I've gotten so far is pretty much setting up the ram timings and voltage, otherwise I've pretty much gotten lost in the rest of the setup.

Start with your ram timings at 4-4-4-12, ddr2 works best when that last number tRAS (cycle time) is the sum of the first three. I have the 2gig version
of that mem and I keep my voltages at 2.2 or 2.3, no problems since the OCZ's have overvoltage protection.

Then enable load-line calibration (keeps vdrop/vdroop at a minimum).
Disable all the Spread Spectrum stuff.
    Lock your PCIe at 100mhz
set your "FSB Strap" to 400 (this will allow your mem divider to be 1:1)
    Disable C1E/EIST junk.

Ok now your reddy to start oc'ing.

Try to find your max OC at stock vcore. Just up your FSB 10 Mhz at a time,
boot windows and run prime95 for a bit to see if it's stable, if so bump up FSB
    10 more and try again.

If you find your max before you hit the 3.33 that you want the next thing to do is to start bumping up your CPU vcore just a steps at a time.

I would think you should be able to reach the 3.33 with that CPU with little
effort, but thats not always the case, so Good Luck .

Oh, and make shure you watch the CPU temps, especially when you start raising the CPU vcore. I use a little prog call "Core Temp".

Is the MB grounding on something inside your case? That would account for no POSTing as well.

Nope. I'm still trying to figure out what the problem might be.

I can offer some advice since I'm using a Pentium D 935 with P5K-E. First, I recommend only running 2 dimms for a few reasons, 1) voltage, 4 dimms take twice as much power as two dimms, 2) stability, apparently DDR2-800 support is touchy on this board with 4 dimms installed, you may have to select DDR2-667 to make all 4 work properly. Also the fact this board selects 1.8v automatically, this may be below the requirements for your RAM.

Personally i bought the cheapest 4GB kit i could find, the G.Skill F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ, which is not listed in the compatibility list, but i've had absolutely no issues with it. This ram easily hit 1066MHz at 5-5-5-15 1.8v, and currently runs 800MHz at 4-4-4-10 1.8v. (Never had any boot issues with this kit)

My only "goal" with this Pentium D was to hit 266MHz FSB, which it did just fine at 1.175vCore (50mV below stock), for a total of 4258MHz. However, I'm still using the stock Intel HSF, so I'm currently running this processor at 3.2GHz, 1.100vCore, which remains nice and cool. I -may- be able to go lower, but I haven't bothered to try, nor have I bothered to try going above 266MHz FSB, although I may attempt higher FSB clocks once I invest in aftermarket cooling.

The best advice I can provide is to follow the accumulated information within this thread, most importantly, I think, is to enable LLC (Line-Load Conditioning), which all-but-eliminates vDrop between BIOS and Windows. I can say my current setup does not budge from 1.100v with LLC enabled, at idle or full load. I would also follow the advice CrazyNutz provides in this thread, but adjust accordingly since you have a Pentium and not a Core 2.

    Good luck,

Thanks for the help... though I found my FSB to just run short at 420@3368 but when i run prime95 it roughly lasts about 6 mins of running the torture test. Otherwise running at 410@3290 isn't as bad... it did run for 10 mins prior to me stopping the test.

How long should i be running the prime95 test?

As far as Temps go, it runs during testing at an avg 50-52C using CoreTemp during Prime95 test, otherwise at idle it's steady at 30-34C.

I haven't tried the settings with CPU vcore just yet... it'll be the next thing i work on... though i'm curious to ask where should i start in terms of voltages? bottom up? or middle up?

Well i dont think the board died. Think my psu isnt up to the task anymore.

Tried using a gigabyte board as well with nothing. 2 sets of ram, 2 video cards, 2 processors and nothing. time for a 750 or higher psu.

Most people say stable is prime95 for 10 hours. I'm happy with around 4.
10 mins really isn't much of a torture test.

I also have 2x G.Skill F2-6400CL5D-2GBPQ with c2d e4400. With bios 0603 i could OC it to 333*9 and it worked fine. But if i changed any settings for memory windows won't even boot (even if i raised voltage). So i had to leave it to 400MHz and 5-5-5-15 2T. Then (stupid me) upgraded bios to version 0906 and if i change any settings for processor/memory I'm getting bluescreens at windows all the time so I must run at default clocks (seems like i cannot go back to older bios). I just bought e8400, hope it will work better but I'm really disapointted with g.skill and this bios mess. Any ideas?

Yes, you can downgrade your BIOS. It's somewhere in the options of the AsusUpdate program.
edit: but are you sure there's nothing wrong with your memory? I'd suggest running MemTest for a while, just to be sure that this is not the problem.

Both my (newly bought) memory sticks were giving errors. After I replaced them, everything went fine.

I recall AsusUpdate saying that you need to use DOS to downgrade to older BIOS version.. since the bios rom exceeds the capacity of a floppy, you may have to make a DOS bootable cdrom or USB thumb, and include the bios rom and flash utility.

However, I would recommend trying the beta BIOS first.. i'm using 1006 right now and have no issues setting the DRAM timings. I've never had 1T Command Rate stable, with any BIOS I've tried though.

What FSB strap setting are you using? maybe try running 333MHz FSB, with Strap set to 200MHz, then test each DRAM Frequency setting until you find the highest one that works stable. You might even try running your FSB at 400MHz and strap at either 200 or 400, if your cpu can go that high.

An update to my situation... The problem turned out to be the motherboard after cross-checking all my components on another computer. Although I got it to FINALLY post after swapping the ram out with some cheap ddr2 ram, the problems didn't end there... Once I got it to post, I flashed the bios to 1004 and changed the ram voltage to 2.2v thinking that this would solve my problem, but the post/no post ratio was still absolutely ridiculous in the end. I've read about other people having the exact same problem with this board where the motherboard just randomly fails to post (check Asus forums). I gotta say, this was one of the most tedious, frustrating experiences I've ever had with a mobo. I'll gladly be returning this mobo, but haven't decided if I'd be willing to give Asus another shot. If the problem I was having was unique to me, then I'd just consider it a bad board and have no hesitation getting another P5K-E. But since the problem seems to be somewhat widespread and Asus hasn't done a thing to fix it, I don't know if it's even worth it to try another P5K-E.

On a side note, has anyone with the blue box P5K-E and/or rev 1.01/1.02 run into the same problem I've had? I'm wondering if the problem is just related to the older rev 1.00/black box boards.

    First post!!

Hi to all Xtremesystems forum Users!

    I couldnt get a hold of e8400 so I bought an e8200 and a 2x2gb Patriot kit, rated 800mhz cl4 2.2v and the p5k-e.
I am currently running@3800, fsb475 1.35v in bios (1.304 stress) and 2.2v on ram 15-5-5-5(autodetect on all other settings) @ 975. I am using Thermaltake Ultra-120. The temps get to 46c, about 26c idle (numbers in pink in the taskbar are the core1/2/cpu temps). I tried running it at 500fsb with higher voltage but couldnt get it stable.

I only changed a few settings in BIOS to keep the config stable.
    fsb 475 (ram@951), vcore 1.3500, vdram 2.2v and that's about it!
All the other settings I left on auto.

Here's a screenshot from me remoting to my home machine from work. Orthos was @ 16hrs then.
I stopped it after 22hrs when I came back home. Running Vista Ultimate x64. Havent fiddled with the gfx just yet but I'm planning to do it

    What do you think?
    Any room for improvement here?
Any experiences with those Patriot LLK 800 CL4 ram sticks?
Anyone running a similar setup at higher speeds orthos stable?
A response would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

ok, from the stable bios to other stable issue...
    here i have a oc issue- -

P5K-E WIFI 1006 + E2160, 400*6 or 400*8 stable, only change to 400*7, NO POST, DEAD. I also heard some one got E2140 has the same issue, it seems that e2140 or e2160 has no 7 external fre. But if i set it on 333*7, it will be fine...I just wonder it might be the board issue or the firmware....1006 may still be bugy...

I may get an e8400 later for 400*7 test....
    Keep the Faith!

Yes...bios 1004/1006 still has a problem as when i tried them i had no post using elixirpc8500/Geil pc6400...had to mix them to post then flashed back to older more stable bios 0602.

Anyone who wish to flash back need to use older Asus update and in options tick downgrade....link below!.

I have to use 1006, otherwise it doesn't detect my CPU correctly. Or should I use the older version for increased compatibility/performance?

anyone have an issue using an Audigy card in the PCI slot nearest the bottom of the board?

I initially had my card in the 2nd pci slot, but wanted to add an aftermarket gpu cooler. So I uninstalled the soundcard and it's software/drivers moved it to the 3rd slot and windows was massively unstable. I couldn't even reload the drivers. So I put the card back in the second slot and all was fine again.

I am currently using X-Fi Xtrememusic in the slot you mentioned. I don't have any issues with it. I had an Abit NF7 mb once though, and the lowest PCI slot had problems and IRQs were not properly assigned. I had to refresh the data in BIOS. Then it started working.

I just purchased the Asus P5K-E Wifi. The board should do fine as overclocker but unfortunatly I experience weird issues.

    1. First the board wouldn't post. The GPU started with max-fanspeed but no view at all. After unplugging the main power-cord it would post again. This was 'solved' by putting the memory from auto and selecting the timings manually. Since that moment the board did post all times but it gives sometimes 'boot block' errors when posting. Seems that the bios is corrupt. When again unplugging the powercord it works again. Used the bios 1004 and 1006, both experience the same problems.

    2. When I run my 4x 1GB crucial ballistic PC-8500 just at 2,3V (+0,1V) at the nominal speeds of 5-5-5-15 @1066mhz it simple crashes within the minute. How come? The only thing I can think of is that one 2GB-pair is single-sided ram and the otherone is dual-sided but would this make the system crash at those speeds?
Vcore is 1.4, rest is on auto. i'm now gonna try raising th nb voltage when i get home, but i dont think that's gonna do anything.

Basicly the question, what should I do to solve those problems?
