Intel Quad Core Q6600 ES (Engineering Sample) with Unlocked Multiplier

Is there such a thing and is it worth buying?
And if so what would be a max price tag?
Who flames you are usually the same arrogants, don't worry you're only asking for an advice.
Yes, early Q6600 ES samples were unlocked, but if I recall, they are all B3 stepping chips. Then, Intel no longer issued ES with unlocked multiplier. Now, if it is a good opportunity or not, it is a real lottery. The B3, ES or not, are really hot and need much volts. Some of them, were very good chips doing the 4GHz on air. An unlocked multi is definite plus, but not enough. If the seller can show you proof of OC potential (take care to have stable benches not screens), than why not. Otherwise, I won't get it for more than half the price of new one, as it is a B3 of very old generation.

Did not boot 4GHz at even 1.45V now! That's so bad compared to before, previously I benched Pi 32M at 4.050GHz with 1.392V idle many times, at least 12/13 runs of it and other stress benches.
Interesting. How long did you hold that chip and how much volts, including vPLL did you give it? If you let vPLL on AUTO, then maybe there's your issue toasting the CPU

I'm using my Q6600 at 475x8, 1.39v. Temps are about 50-56ºC loaded, ambients change a lot here (tropical country )

Here's a Screenshot with 18ºC ambients:
Many thanks. Yes, you really have a very clean WC rig, the cable arragement is impressive The big case suerely helps.

I also can do 51°C at 3.8GHz for a 20°C ambiant. 18°C is a nice temperature as there's an exponential relation between CPU temp and ambiant temp. In my tests, above 22°C, it is quite a x2.5 ratio

It will be a matter of luck. You won't know unless you test. The MX-2 costs less though than a good Q6600

I think my statement better suits L73x- L74x Range perhaps

This CPU actually posts with 450FSB x 8!!

I set Vcore to 1.4V bios and been running prime 95 for 2 hours straight so far CPUZ reads solid 1.4V also

Temps 60C loaded

My old one would do 400x9 @ 1.475V getting temps of 75C loaded

How low Vcore u rekon could get it for prime stable?

tis true... the only way you can really get a good idea is the EXACT batch number... i.e. L737B6668 = 1.325vid L737B242 = 1.2something or other
took me like 10000000000x returns to get the cpu i have now... but i bought it locally from frys so i could keep returning it *they would just get labeled open box and put back on shelf*

abuse the return system and dont drive up the cost for the rest of us!

*edit*
@ expander
i just ran 3dmark06 cpu test to see what the difference between our cpu score was

27Mhz = 2 points on cpu score

i USED to be at that speed... prime stable was at 1.494 volts after that i reduced it to my current speed now im at 1.464 volts. just fyi.

when i put my gpu's under liquid, we will be going toe to toe it seems as im just 100 pts shy of that score and im using a stock hsf on my gpus
i personally like competition because it pushes us to improve our own knowledge and push our hardware to find where its true limit really is

man the return policy/after-sale services in your country is just top notch, here in the Netherlands or Europe, U cant return things from the day u used/opened it........ no 30 days tryout or sumtin like that :< but Lucky my second g0, the L737B242, was just a pure gamble, I was very excited by the results of the L737B, and there u can actually make a assumption about their vids, it was like the lower the 3 digits the bigger chance of having low vid, but 242 wasnt that small number... so I was pretty happy

i was actually looking for your exact batch number and gave up to get what i got now... that particular 242 batch is a monster overclocker.
i had the option of returning or exchanging within 15 days. this was from frys which is a huge corporation aka outpost. most local shops here would not do that... but most local stores WOULD let me pick the batch and test the processor for its vid before it is purchased. im sure it can be the same way in europe as the people there seem a bit more reasonable than here in the states (maastricht was a really nice place... much nicer than a-dam)... you would be amazed at what you can get from a place if you just ask

Squeezed a lil bit more from my previous 4.2Ghz to approx 4.3Ghz (just 20mhz shy). Needed extra juice on the Vnb at 1.7v. Vcore is at 1.62v

Nice..

Is it too much to ask for your bios settings for this max post? Also what type of cooling are you using?

BTW this is the max I can bench on air for now..

Hey all, running a G0 Q6600 (obviously) and I am not getting the same CPU scores as other people in 3dmark06. My Q6600 @ 4.05Ghz under water @ 1.6v gets 5619... Not above 6 like other people.

Also, 1.6v seems way high - but every time I try to go even a tad bit lower, like 5.9, 3dmark06 will freeze during the CPU tests... Any way around this?

My temps are kinda high too, even with the swiftech h20-220 and a apogee. At 4Ghz, load is around 60C, which is a bit high for me...

What are your temps on your quads that have speeds like 4.2Ghz?? Must be high...

If you guys could get back to me with an answer it would be great! Thanks all!

Not necessarly, before crying, just give it a try. The VID is an indication, not a guaranty.

Meanwhile, I moved to the P5K Premium and it could give more out of my setup:

Damn I should try to push my CPU some more. However I really do think it is mobo limited. Running a P965 DQ6 @ 3.6 I will post whole rigs spec in sig soon.

PS: Not that I am disappointed at 3.6 24/7 100% load. Just would love to hit like 3.8+ just for a bigger e-penis and faster F@H times.
