I've been at Official AMD presentation week ago, and they had no information about R7xx GPU's specifications, not even a theoretical product roadmap.

    I want the 4870 X2
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."

I meant multicore as in VSA-100 or MCM, not traditional gpu-like "multicore". (Btw, the core has a lot of other stuff than just stream processors.)

Trust me, you don't want it if it's another 3870X2. The drivers are utter crap, I've been testing it for a couple of days and all I can recommend if you want fps despite all the other things is to buy a NVIDIA card. Or you can mod a 3870 and have moster clocks for everyday use if you want ATI

But seriously, stay away from 3870X2.

so at the moment a two chip solution is the way to go.
...and "they" said it wouldnt happen
    harhar
despite the usual multi gpu driver prob's a fair few games seem to benfit from crossfireonacard multigpu.

but too exe for me, so 4870 i spose vs wottever nvidia pull out of their hat/s. another mini upgrade from 8800gt...

I'm sure if they are truly planning on releasing another X2 card that drivers will mature...

Yeah sure, everybody thinked that they would fix the CF drivers when they released the 3870X2. And they did nothing. IF 4870X2 is CF in one card, the problems will still be there.

Are you saying they're trying to make a non-competitive card? They will fix the drivers. The 3870X2 is how old? barely a month? Give it time, don't just write it off.

uuh, what? "multicore as in VSA-100" - are you talking about the 2 pixel pipelines it had, or the voodoo5 dualchip card!?

    HD4870 1GB GDDR5 @ 2200MHz (DDR-4400)
    = 140.8 GB/s

    +95.5% improvement in throughput compared to HD3870 (DDR-2250 @ 256bit = 72GB/s)
    +33.3% improvement in throughput compared to HD2900XT (DDR-1650 @ 512bit = 105.6GB/s)

You were not supposed to see this.

The card, when it works flawessly, is a beast. But in almost every game, the drivers suck a$$ with something. In one game is with text corruption, in other is second core not working (basically CF not working) and in others they simply make the game totally unplayable, with half of a single 3870's framerate.

Non-competitive card? The card is competitive, but with the actual drivers, it's a ing PITA to play with it. Fix the drivers? Dude, this is ATI, and CF drivers, I think you should reconsider that claim. They are good in some areas, but when it comes to fix something with the drivers... well, good luck.

Why would 4870 be $300 and the x2 be only $500? It should be at least 600.

And you can't take the prices out of context like that

They are not the MSRP, they are target prices. Just for orientation or how to put it. AMD/ATI wants to keep the cards affordable and the prices are in no way what you should expect the retail prices to be, but from what I know AMD aims to stick below these prices.
But, I mean, we're four months from the launch, it's still a long way to go.

There are a couple of things that actually doesn't add up for me in the information hartware.net has posted. One of them being the ROPs. IF RV770 is suppose to have a MCM design and ATI has doubled the amount of TMUs, logically the amount of ROPs should double too.
