Hi, Just read most of the thread for the gazillionth time...

My wife leaves next week, my 3 cards are susposed to be in next 2 weeks, 2 buy this weekend.
So can someone point me to a place to buy the hardware for the volt mods for this challange. I am looking for a good internet supplier. I think the components are listed on several posts but I was wondering the best place to purchase.

And if you feel good hearted, could you go over what components i would need. I know I need a to add some caps and a VR to make it happen. I have my voltmeter ready, my fine point solder iron and I am geting all the cooling stuff in order.

This is my first time playing with you Extremest so I am getting excited, I have been preparing for the last 2 weeks to be ready/ if anyone could point me at the the right components that would be cool too, but I know it's a compatition, but I am looking to just finish but I still will be trying to do well... and get 1 event under my belt....

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post any info...

The 3 cards I am getting are ...

    FOXCONN 8400GS 256MB - Memory brand: Hynix
    GeForce 8400GS 256MB - Memory brand: ????
XFX GeForce 8400GS 256MB - Memory brand: Elixir

    Memory speculation from Madshrimps...

Thanks in advance for your time and effort!

I'd say calling it a competition is putting a little too much weight into it. I view this more as a bunch of guys out golfing with a cooler of beer

Here's two great electronic retailers, I prefer searching through digikey's selection though.
    http://digikey.com/
    http://mouser.com/

As for components necessary, it really depends on the PCB you have. With mine, the EVGA, I ordered two 100k 25 turn pots and a slew of 2200uF 16v 0.015 Ohm ESR capacitors but I might have found some 0.01 Ohm ESR caps. Once I finish up the caps I'm going to see if another choke would be helpful but I don't think we'll be seeing current limitations.

I think that's what i like best about it, the good natured way people are in this forum. My wife is jealous that i spend a lot of time reading here..

    I look forward to golfing

It's mainly not about winning. A lot of it is down to luck, but hopefully everyone will get enough info to do most volt mods etc and push to their cards particular limit.

Talking of which my card is getting tired already after benching it througn December before the comp. One minute it is fine the next minute it will not do stock.

Popped the 10k barrier in 3dmark when it was behaving well

OK! Vmods time (this goes out to you Andy )

    Leadtek 8400GS TDH Extreme

I've not does these mods yet so they are untested until I say so - but this is what I'd do and I've a 100% success record so far. The variable resistors are on the safe side so after I've checked I may reduce some of the values.

Hopefully have some scores soon too!

    John

PS - consider this stage 1 of the mods

Thanks John for the memory mod location. I'll give that a try at some point when I have maxed out the gpu.

Your stage 1 is my final stage ,..

    Note to all

I have added DigitalJesus as an example of how the remaining scores will look going down, it is too longwinded putting all other scores on.

I have my new 8600GT in the machine at the moment Grau, but will do that eventually.

Can anyone make public results on the BETA ORB? I can upload and make public but then they do not appear on the ORB when searching.

    Regards

best score and go for it. It's hilarious to bench these cards! For $40, you can blow them up and not shed too many tears.

I opened the ORB Beta and I though FireFox crashed.. everything stopped responding!

Anyways, updated scores.. just a driver change sure makes a difference. Next comes shaders, cooling, and vmods!

    Hey mate,

I take it the wire to the right of the 20k VR is the ground, is there another ground near that, that could all so be use.
For the life of me I can't get the wire to solder to it, the wire to pin 4 was just fine though

    Edit: Don't worry, got it.

Edit 2: The board wont run over 1.35vgpu

And I just ran 03 at 711/540 = 9239, and this is what the beta ORB just told me.

    Upload failed with errorcode: -20

Error message: Your registration key has already been activated with another ORB account. This can occur if you have multiple ORB accounts, or multiple users attempt to use the same key. The ORB only allows one key to be associated with one account

Just tried to check them out by following the link and got

The ORB encountered an unexpected error while processing your request.

I did a search on the 8400GS front page and your score is not public either. Can you make it public? I cannot make any of my scores public currently

Sigh, why did FM decide to go beta during our comp! They could have checked with us first to see if we gave permission ....

    Regards

I think the search function is broken because they are set to public already..... I noticed the search function wasnt working correctly on the old ORB either when I submitted my older results because I couldnt find anyone else's scores when I searched.

Also it is quite annoying trying to access the beta orb, firefox AND IE slow to a crawl and stop responding... I think its due to dial-up holding me back. Hope that gets fixed on monday!

Here is the compare link for each, maybe its because I was giving the single result link that they dont work.

STEvil, have you figured out the vmod yet? Would really like some help, perhabs you could take a highres picture of the card? I don't own a camera and if we could get a picture it would be easier for people to help us with the mod ( or just me )

    Looking good !

Reminds me of an old card I modded back in 2002 when transistors had not been invented yet and I had to use valves.

Them were the days. Got that sucker up to 18Khz.

I hit 19fps in the Manic Miner benchmark.

    Such goodtimes
