Nice now Nvidia can pay more money to software companies so that we will need a 400$ to run solitaire.
Hehe Nvidia the way it's meant to be paid.

Sounds like it'll be a battle of deep pockets now. Now will Intel give enough money to developers to use Havok, or will NV pay more for them to use AGEIA?

But to be honest, I doubt physics will be mainstream until there's one common API for all the devs to use.

Which is why I said AMD needs to acquire a physics company now

Physics wont be mainstream until someone puts a lot more money in it. Nvidia is not the one to be first one to do that, they prefer to walk on already laid track. Nvidia is just as bad as Microsoft when it comes to business. Expect Intel to be the one to get physics started and then Nvidia walk in and trying to change the game in their favour.

AMD seems pretty willing to delve into new technologies too, monolithic quads, dual GPU cards, quad FX . Unfortunately they don't have a physics company

Also, Merger = crappy production for awhile? Like what we saw with AMD/ATI merger?

IIRC ATI cards in the 360... so now Nvidia will be powering physics on systems with ATI cards... wonder if anything will change on that front

Well, with Intels move and now the Green Guy's, we should be expecting physics as a very common native videocard features for NV cards(not just NV's, Intel too, soon) in the next years, DX11 i hope-yeah i know its a little bit early assumption... Right now i'm impressed with Crytek's own coding style for physics(on the software side)...

isn't there already a physics processor on the 8800GTX and 2900XT? I seem to remember something about that about 6 months ago. Anyway, this is stupid, leave the physics to the man of the house, THE CPU!!!

They can do physics calculations, but it's not really optimized to do so.

They've both been talking about Physics on the GPU using the Havok SDK that was under development. When Intel bought Havok it was the first thing to be canned. Both have the capability to process physics calculations but lack the code to do so so far.

SO, ATI if they wanted to join the Physics club could chose from; Newton Game Dynamics, Open Dynamics Engine, Vortex and Farseer Physics. id say they should go for newton because they were used in stalker.

Your CPU of the future will be built like a cell processor anyhow with several specialized processors in a single package aimed at different markets and then augmented with your choice of video card(s). I see AMD in this market, I see Intel in this market, I see Nvidia getting locked out of anything that isn't a GPU. I think it was an attempt to stay in the game that will ultimately fail.

I really don't see how this changes the game at all. No one is buying PPUs, few if any games are using PPUs, and none of those games get much better with a PPU. Maybe NV will put a Ageia PPU on their cards directly. That is the only way I can see me getting one, by forcing me to buy one with a graphics card. Crysis has innovative physics that add to the game word by making it a more realistic experience, all without a PPU.

The only reason I can see for NV to buy Ageia is to get in on all those Dells equipped with a PPU.

I refuse to participate in any debate with creationists because doing so would give them the "oxygen of respectability" that they want.
Creationists don't mind being beaten in an argument. What matters to them is that I give them recognition by bothering to argue with them in public.

I really don't see this taking off. You should be able to enable Ageia physics with a beefy CPU in GRAW 2. If all/most physic intense games that require a PPU can be played with a beefy CPU I really don't see the point. It's possible that we may see a PPU enabled video card however, it's also possible we will see dual core gpus and Nethalem by then as well. If so, it would make a PPU enabled video card solution a hard sell IMO.

You do see the point because no game utilities complex fluid and cloth physics. Because of a serious lack of power in todays hardware.
