Back plate helps some times, but i realized that back plate also cause higher temperatures. The reason is it block the air circulation on the back of the motherboard, specially right under the CPU. That area gets hot as well and heat gets block over there cause temperature increase.

You guys can try it also.

    here's my results.... got 19 degrees idle @ stock speeds, 25 @ 3.2ghz

That must be temps in the socket base. What are the actual core temps as measured?

measured by coretemp .95, tat & speedfan.

they are all within a few degrees of one another, 22-27 inc fluctuating. i would like to do a good a lapping job as my heatsink and others on here, it would be great if i could get temps as good as some. would really like the 400x9 tho.

    Fun Lapping

    @It hurts me to pee
My temps reported with my lapped CPU are at default. The CPU in my signature is on my current machine. The lapped CPU is for my project this weekend. I will report the temps once I get it overclocked. Sorry to mislead you.

    yeah!

im gonna whip my cpu out and lap it to the extend of my heatsink / annconda's cpu .... will probably only be a minute difference on temps but it will only cost me my time

Well I finally got my G0... I stick it in, instal windows, and its running 46+ on idle. I don't know why, so I re-seat, and it looks like it needed it. Well it was just as bad, with very even pressure. So I pull it off and use loads of paste this time.
Now I see the problem, its not even touching the paste in the middle of the CPU, but is all the way around. This is the worst concaved IHS I have ever seen.
So its in need severly of lapping. Ill post up results when I'm done.

Mine will not likely be shiney like the others in here, I only want a flat surface, not a smooth surface, because I want the peak/trough effect.

After lapping Q6600, a custom backing plate, and switching to AS5 from ceramique, temps lowered by 4*C

Just pulled my Freezer 7 PRO to see if I need to lap the IHS and it's showing very defined pressure points around all 4 corners. Not sure it the IHS on the E6750 is that bad, or if it's the HS.

Kinda hard to see in this pic.

I put the stock Intel HS on for now, and idle temps are the same (35c), load temps went up 6c (54c-60c)

Well, I went ahead and lapped the chip and the HS and got a 2c drop at idle and 3c drop at full load. I also did the pencil mod, so my Vcore is now holding higher at load, so I'm sure that adds a bit of heat.

Hmmm, I will be using this to lap my Q6600 this weekend. I will also be lapping my tuniq tower, as it arrived with a few scratches on the copper from newegg.

I want to see if I can hit 3.6 with a fresh lap, and hold off on the water setup I was about to buy. My highest core at 3.4ghz is 57-59C. The two lowest are 6-8C less, so I am thinking it isn't getting good contact, and if I can get all cores at the same 52ish temps, 3.6 would be easy as pie, since my temps for all cores would be around 61C, instead of the hottest going up to 67C, which is not good.

I imagine the scratches on the copper surface don't help either, especially since they are where the CPU is contacted. I will report back with results.
