It could be that they just won't do it with all 4 slots occupied.

I had a similar issue when I tried to run 8GB on my board.

Test both kits separately and see if both are capable of those timings on their own.



I could get faster clocks with tighter timings on 2x2 than 4x2.

I can not get 3-3-3-10. Kingston6400, KHX6400D2ULK2/2G these are kits of (2x1G), I now have 2 kits 4G total. One time I was able to boot up at these settings, I beleve it's when I had one kit installed only.

Kingston specs say these kits are tested to run @ 800Mhz 3-3-3-10 @ 2.3-2.35v. Spd jedec say 5-5-5-15 @ 1.8 I set my dram v to 2.35, manualy try 3-3-3-10 wont boot up, also tried Comand rate 2t and trans booster disabled, relax level 0.

With everything on auto she will boot up 5-5-5-15 @ 1.97, can even manualy set timings at 4-4-4-12 @ 1.97 but no-go on the 3's.

What can I change?

I had a similar problem. I had to go way beyond the advised warranty voltage to do 3-3-3-10. 2.45v was needed. It's a Kingston problem. I had Kingston PC9600 dimms who did PC6400@3-3-3-10 in a Abit IX38 QuadGT, on the Maximus i needed 2.45v. Now i have Team Xtreem PC6400 C3. They do DDR800 @ 3-3-3-8 @ 2.32v. I can even do DDR1100 @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.35v with these sticks.....

I am a little worried as on the retail box it says 1.225V max while on Intel Specs Finder i see for my SLAPK: VID Voltage Range: 0.85V – 1.3625V. So what's default maximum accepted after all ? Is it 1.225V or 1.3625V ? Wat do you recommend for running it at arround 4-4.2Ghz for 24/7 usage (cooling it with Thermalright Ultra-120 Extremme for now) ?

What kinda 3DMark score are you getting with the wolfdale?
As for volts no one can say what you need for 4.2GHz as for every setup is different. Get your CPU stable using prime small ffts then keep lowering volts till it craps out then up 1 notch and test. That will be your lowest stable voltage
Now get benching that wolfdale

Download coretemp (do a search on here). It will tell you your VID which is the default voltage for your chip. I'd stay below 1.45v on the Penryn chips if you want to keep the chip healthy (assuming you have proper cooling). Personally, I'm not going anywhere over 1.4v with my QX9650 for obvious financial reasons If I had the E8500 or E8400 I wouldn't be as wary since the replacement cost is MUCH lower.

BTW - the VID for my chip is 1.1375v and @ 4GHz I am ~1.37v

What kinda 3DMark score are you getting with the wolfdale?

I'm getting 13600 points in 3DMark06 and 68506 points in 3DMark01 with 8800GTS 512 (standard clocks). Not much, but enough for me (i'm not playing any games on my PC usually).

Hello there guys, I too have joined the Asus Maximus SE Club and now it time for me to decide what Ram sticks I should get this board. The board supports up to 8GB of Ram and I plan to Put 2GB Per Slot. So now the question is, What Ram Sticks do you guys Recommend me Buying?

I have the Asus Maximus Formula (Special Edition) Dual-channel DDR2 1200*/1066 MHz Support. DDR2 SDRAM Frequencies: PC2-5300, PC2-6400 and PC2-8500.

Also if my Motherboard Supports 1333MHz and 1600MHz (Unofficialy), How does that link to my memory Frequencies. I guess what I am asking is can I go higher then PC2-8500 and what will be my higgest point. But I am pretty sure that once I read your guys recommendations, I will have a clear idea of what Memory Stick I should get.

So if you guys can help me out, that would really help me out on Which Brand/Stick I should get. Thx for all your help guys!

I encountered issues with pc2-8500 and this board:
(Strictly 1GB Modules)

Journal Notes:
-Mobo defaults 1.9v vdimm in Bios on 667/800
-1.9v is too low for EPP 2.35v "1066 SPD Table" for GSkill PC2-8500
-Would not POST until I removed GSkill sticks, and put in Calibration Stick of SuperTalent 800 and Rebooted.
-Upon Reboot, All voltages are defaulting, and have to be manually set to proper voltages for GSkill 8500.
-Increased NB, vdimm, vcore, VTT(FSBT), with little success.

-Installed Tubing for NB Fuzion Block
-Installed Active Fan on Mem/NB Area.

-On a whim, I decided to try the RAM in Slots 2 & 4 and just do Restarts, some overclocking, etc.. to try and trigger the "Reboot SPD Issue" or whatever it can even be called to this point.
-2 & 4 seem to be the Answer to the Solution since I am able to fail Overclocks, but not have to resort to pulling memory out.0000
-Reduced voltages to "green" level to test out, and triggered the SPD issue, but the Bios Settings didn't default.
-Increased voltages to Previous Pass levels, and Bug was gone.
-3:4 Most Stable divider BY FAR for Overclocking.
-Was able to push farther past 1173 up to 1200 but couldn't get stable system wise.

Work Around for "BUGCODE USB DRIVER"
-Disable the USB 2.0 Controller, Leave the Function Enabled for USB.
-Was getting BSOD after XP Boot at ddr2-1200, until I disabled that. Everything defaults to USB 1.1 speed though.

I would recommend GSkill, but that's all I ever buy. But the SPD Table issue has me a little bummed out, however I know this is a squirrelly board I've never ever, not even with the DFi SLi-DR had to go thru this much trouble to get something to work consistently.

USB loading issues generally means that either chispet is overheating, or needs more volts(more volts doesn't help hot chipsets, hot is over 50c.). I've gone back to air cooling to play with E8400, chipset is limiting factor in clocking E8400 with 4 DIMMs.

Also, I undersatnd vFSB must be low to match cpu voltage, and chipset volts as well. Definately need a good board to take advantage of E8xxx!

I took my Maximus Formula yesterday along with 4x1gb (800MHz) Crucial Ballistix. (already updated bios to 0907)

My problem is that I cannot even post @ 3.6GHz which was my previous 24/7 O/C with my E6600 on a P5W DH dlx and with 2x1Gb Gskill (800MHz)..

The LCD poster keeps saying "DET RAM" which probably means that it doesn't like something in the memory settings in the bios. I know 4x1Gb can be a PITA for O/C, but I cannot understand that it doesn't even boot with auto mem settings @3.6GHz (9x400) and 266/333 divider (that is even with looser timings 5-5-5-15 than the rated 4-4-4-12@800MHz).

Can someone tell me what do I need to check/experiment in the bios with? That is to be more specific, what settings can cause the system not to boot after the O/C? I don't think it has to do with the cpu probably new memory is causing this problem.

I'll keep my E6600 till the Q9450 will be here so I need your help with this new mobo, in order to restore my 24/7 O/C with this cpu.

Did you touch subtimings or left it to auto? Also what kind of vdimm did you use at stock mem and O/Ced?
Also do I need to check any other (non memory related) settings in the bios that can cause my system not to boot after the O/C?

I had post issues even with stock cpu/mem clocks if I didn't use auto/2T with this ram(prolly the 4x1Gb), that's why I'm guessing it's probably a memory related problem.

I used the auto timings, but set them manually, just because.

so, 4-4-4-12-3-42-6-3-8-3-4-5-4-6-4-6.

Static read ENABLED.
clock twister and transaction booster on auto.

My E660 will do 266 strap up to 520mhz FSB on other boards...strap issues are still prevalent on this board, so it's probably just some setting affecting your build.

Now i have 0802 and one thing irritate me ... temps of my e8400. In idle are 47/48 ( core 1 and core 2 ) !?!?! So i wonder is that problem with bios or something else.

2.1v in bios, almost always. I'll adjust timings, not voltage, first.

Ram works like this, to me...


It will handle so many bits/second. As you increase the speed, you cannot surpass this limit, so lowering timings to match that limit will bring back stability. Overall bandwidth increases because the faster bus speed lowers latency.

Given that D9's have proven to die @ "stock" volts...I'm more careful now. Downtime sucks.
