Hey guys , been over a week now trying to post and finally i`ve been processed,,yippee. firstly thanks to all who have contributed their bios tweaks , i cant thank you blokes enough! anyway an hour or so ago i changed the stock HS on my e6850 which was running at 67c load at 3.6 gig oc and around 33-34 idle. Well today i picked up a thermalright 120 extreme and i was scared very scared !firstly i had to dismount the MB to slip the thermalright bracket underneath,,scary for an absolute novice but i managed , then i was gonna go way beyond my comfort zone and lap the cpu, which i did and i must say iam still in a state of shock:o),,anyway i wont bore you blokes much longer other than to say thanks again and check out the stable prime 95 specs below. p.s idle 31-32 load 59c prime95 for 2 or so hours!

    Just get a Q9650

You do know a Quad core will be a Dual core no matter the clock right?

So a 3.7Ghz Quad Can be a 5Ghz Dual. Well... In Pure Performance, maybe not SuperPI.

Yeah. Right now, that's all a C2Q is good for: benchmarks. Today, nothing is taking advantage of my quad. Maybe in a couple months or a year, it'll matter. But, by then there should be more C2Qs to choose from.

It seems like i have a problem overclocking with this board.

if i go with the cpu lvl up to Q6850 all works great, but i want to OC manually, nothing works. even with 350 fsb, which is absolutly nothing, i cant boot.

i lower the memory to 700mhz for example, and give like 1.4V to the CPU, and 1.5 to the NB but nothing works. if the pc does boot, i gives me a blue screen and doesnt want to get into windows.

i am really frustrated here... can u give any advice, tips or tricks?

    Not Good!!

    I have again try the 475 X8, 425 X 9 with
    DDR2 HyperX PC9600 2048MB CL5, HyperX 1GB DDR2 1200Mhz
but will not even boot. volts 1.4 to 1.55V nothing...
as soon gets into vista blue screen and reboots.

Well, Not really, Crysis takes advantage of it, and most games coming out will. Its a good investment.

In crysis i get 50-80% CPU usage.

For a Dual, that would mean 100-160% usage.

So, Its fair, also, Physics in most games runs better with a Quad-Core system. Like Crysis, UT3, and HL2.

What would you guys associate a hard lock up in windows under prime test #5 (blend test), cpu, ram or nb?

Windows lock's up but my LCD poster's time keeps on working, mouse and kb are non responsive.

It could be a mix of them.

CPU - Lock ups or shutdowns.
NB - Lock ups or Random Reboots.
Mem - Lock ups or Image Artifacts.

(I can go deeper in this but I choice not to)

So Bump up your voltages, and Tweak, Overclocking takes time.

I've had this board for about a week now. First 4 days, everything was great - stable in OCCT and Prime (overnight). After a heavy gaming session on day 5, I shut down and restarted later and XP 32-bit wouldn't load fully - it kept blue screening. After a few hours, I traced the problem to the wireless card (Dlink DWA-556). I put it in the lower x16 slot instead of a PCIEx1 slot and things started to work again, but now about every third or fourth boot, I'm getting an "overclocking failed" message - don't know why because everything is stable when it does boot up (OCCT and Prime again). I couldn't get anything to work with default BIOS settings when the wireless card was in the x1 slot, and I couldn't even get in to do a Windows Repair! HDs all passed tests fine. RAM passed memtest. Here are my critical specs and settings:

    Celeron 420 (waiting for Q9450)
    Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 2GB
    PCP&C Quad 750 Sliencer
    Raptor 150s in Raid 0

    Bios 0602

    Extreme Tweaker
    Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
OC From CPU Level Up : AUTO
    CPU Ratio Control : AUTO
    FSB Frequency : 375
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 333
    PCI-E Frequency: 100
    DRAM Frequency: DDR2-1200mhz

Everything else at AUTO or the defaut setting.

The NB and SB both go to about 50C on a load (SB got to 54C at max one time).

So what I need help with is figuring out if the board is bad (with the PCEx1 slot or something else) or if I just need to do a BIOS update, or add some cooling, or even something else. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks...

So this is my first over clock, based on the anandtech setup, but with 475x8 fsb and 1.39 vcore (E6850 g0 cpu). 0401 vanilla maximus bios.

I tried to run prime 25.5, but the cpu temp reached 64C so I stopped it rather quickly. Now, this shouldn't be correct, as I've got watercooling and once I stopped it, the temp dropped from 64 to 34 in 3 secs. shall I flash my bios to the newest version or something?

Any advice that may improve my stability is more than welcome.

Zucker2K, how is your E8400 coming along? I have one in the mail. Care to share any tips?

MKM, it is normal for the temperature to fall that quickly. It means you have good cooling! Your vNB and FSB Termination voltages look a touch high, too. Can you dial back on vCore?

Ok, so should i try lowering the vcore?

What should the FSBT and the vNB be like? And what max temperature should I avoid for my CPU and NB, is 64C fine?

How will you know the sweet chip, or are you opening both?

I'm in for the E8400... should be here by the weekend. Hoping it goes something like THIS (he's running a Tuniq).

    Not a bad strategy.

How much $ will you loose selling an open box?

Dunno I guess its up to the bidders on Ebay
If the first one is rather promising and I get my 4.2GHz at respectable temps and voltage then I will just return the other CPU.
If I am forced to open the other cpu no biggie I might build another box and sell my quad, dunno exactly the whole plan but I'm sure I will do ok.
I bought my FX-60 for around 500 bucks, ran it for a year and a half, sold it on ebay for 425 so I can say I lost nothing on that deal.
