Well ive been working with it for a few days now, and im not happy with it at all, im gona be putting it up for sale in the classifieds section at a discounted price, also gotta get rid of this stick of ram i bought. Just thought id give you guys a heads up.

Im gona be going with the Foxconn Mars instead, with 4 gigs of Adata Extreme Edition ram. Ill stick with my E2140 at 3ghz until the E8400 is ready.

I did have to RMA my first one, but now I am pretty content with the stability. But I don't do too much tinkering with the OC.

I have some questions about your hardware setup / signature.

Is that Zalman 9700 the full copper model or the NT version with the aluminum and copper?
Would it be unwise for me to try a 9700 NT on a QX6850? (i.e. does the 6850 run hotter than the 9650?)
Is your RAM rated as PC-10666 out of the box or is it PC-16000 that you have underclocked? If the latter, what is the benefit?

    Anyone:
What program do you all use to monitor tempuratures and fan speeds? Im aware of Intels software but have never liked how Intel cannot make a WHQL certified SMBUS driver for years on end now. And with MBM5 out of business Im just wondering what is the new software to use?

I dont see any real reason for RMA here, the board seems to be functioning properly, other then the fact that i just dont like it as an "extreme" board.

I still use MBM with the CoreTemp plugin, and it works perfectly on my previous E6300 and my X3210 Quad, under XP Pro and Vista x86. It's not perfect on fans speeds, but temps are reported and logged fine.

I use CoreTemp with a hack to work under Vista x64 on my Turion X2 laptop.

Yesterday i tried my new Bonetrail + ddr3 and it was quite wresling to get my rig even power up
Same problem with maximus formula: u can't mount cooler too tight.

I spent 2-3 hours by thinkin is the mobo broken or is the mem broken...

Now finaly i have working system with intels boxed cooler -.-

Today i'll try again mount watercooling and start OCing

I am using the full copper version and I am pretty happy with it. As far as the 6850 goes, you would have to look at Zalman's site to see if it supports that CPU speed, but I would think it would. The 6850 should be a little hotter than the 9650 because I believe the default voltage is higher, and it is 65NM versus 45NM process.

The Patriot memory I use is 10666 (1333) out of the box @ 1.7V. I am running it at 1533 @ 1.82V. It could do more, but I am content where it's at.

I am looking to buy a Bonetrail as it is so cheap right now I read threw the hole thread and the highest FSB i remember seeing was ~450MHz. Which is kinda low. Has anyone been 550MHz+. If this board isn't capable of it, I think I'll pass.

    Hello,
This is one of my first posts, I'm trying to get my memory to run at 1600 but a little over 1500 is all I can accomplish before my system is unstable. I have tried different ratios, and different FSB speeds but it seems it has a limit of around 1500+ a little. Can someone look at my voltages and see if they think they are in the ballpark?

Currently my ref freq is 400 and my mem freq is 1333, I seem to have the best luck with this ratio at any FSB speed..

There are definitely combinations of settings that work better than others. Your voltages are reasonable but I'd try increasing the multiplier to 9 and reducing the FSB to 400. Then set the reference and memory frequency to 333/1333. This combination still gives you 3.6GHz and DDR3-1600 but the board will like the 1:2 ratio much better.

Also, DDR3 memory is just as sensitive to overvoltage as undervoltage. Sometimes even the manufacturer's spec is a little high. Run Orthos or Prime95 Small FFTs to make sure your CPU is stable, then run the Large FFTs and tweak your memory voltage slightly in both directions to see if it helps.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I tried 333/1333 as opposed to 400/1333 and my computer will boot and operate fine up to 380FSB which is 1520mhz on the memory. But at even 390 it Blue screens during boot with the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, also I went to 400 just for fun and then i recieved the windows failed to start with misc. file problems during a few boot attempts.
Also I did this without even taking the multiplier to 9 so my cpu speed was only 3.2 at that point. It's looking to me that my mem just cant run at its rated speed (which soesnt really suprise me a lot) since its just overclocked DDR3-1333 in reality.

Now running 400fsb with B3 cored xeon
Mem is 400/1066 <- going to be oced!
When i reach 450fsb i can say this mobo is same good stuff as maximus formula

I add screeny from my top fsb tomorrow.

Hi gtj, are you running 4x1GB OCZ memories at DDR3-1800? Would you please share your settings? I have hard time to run 4X1GB mem at 900MHz. Thanks in advance.

Don't give up too easily. It takes a lot longer to dial in an X38/DDR3 system.

Send me chip which can handle +550fsb so i can test that... I don't think that is impossible reading

Btw if this mobo posts with light overclocks ur almoust at final stage. Cuz after that everything goes smoothly, mobo is easy to oc more and the most stable which i've ever tested.
I haven't seen any sigth of cold boot bug.

    Ok,
I was able to get to 333/1333 on my setup with the following settings.

    CPU: QX9650
    Mem: 4x Corsair DDR3-1600

    FSB: 400
    Mult: 9
    vCORE: 1.2875
    vFSB: 1.20
    vMCH: 1.25
    Ref Freq: 333
    Mem Freq: 1333
    Timings: 8-8-8-20
    vDIMM: 1.82

I cannot boot to windows with 7-7-7-20 timings and 1.82v, but i "can" boot with 1.94v, but it fails OCCT in less than a minute. Whats odd is that I'm able to get to these overclocks without raising the FSB voltage and MCH voltage this time around.

I dont believe raising the FSB and/or MCH voltages helps my situation but I'll keep trying.

At 400FSB the default voltages should be OK but you could try raising the vMCH 1 notch. Also, tweak the vDIMM 1 notch in either direction and see what that does.
