Wow, Carl, nice to hear from you again. It has been a long time. I had no idea you even moved from Chicago! Winston has been wondering how you have been as well, but could not tell him anything as I had not heard from you either. I hope things are going well.

p.s. do you even know who this is? lol.

LOL - Drew, how many guys would chose "cantankerous" for a handle and be from Canada

In the immortal words of Buckwheat, I'm "O-tay".
Great to get the shouts from old friends.
(Hope you guys aren't holding any old I.O.U.s from me.)

Just celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of my 30th Birthday
(Gawd I hope this build is easier that the NF2 days)

So, do I flash to the 01-09-2008 Bios when I get the 8500?

hehehe, glad to hear you are doing ok, it has been a long time.

As for the new bios I would stay away, the layout is bugged. Options are written over top of other options making it hard to change certain settings due to this. I would stick with the official 12/24 for now as it is near flawless in terms of performance and stability.

Like this? I tried fixing it but the problem is deeper then what I can do with the editor I have. It's solid though. It's the one I'm currently using.

I got everything running no problem last night. I did a round of tests and temp checks at stock out of the box and it was very solid and cool. After that I reset bios to default and flashed to 12/24, all readings still great.

Now the fun begins! I've done a lot of reading of these threads and they are very helpful. There's a lot of bios templates for different part combos around. Has anyone seen 24/7 settings for e6600/gskill 800mhz hz on this board? I'm hoping to get same or better than what I did on P5K-Dlx which was 9x400 / 3.6ghz Ram 4 4 4 12 1000mhz very stable. Another quickie, do I need to move any of the jumpers (ie. ram, fsb) before I get started? I'm assuming no based on what I've read.

I was getting pretty hot around the pwm and nb while running orthos blend at stock speed, so I decided to physically prep the board before getting into ocing it.

I was able to lower temps with a fan in hand, aiming at the sinks, but rahter than jerry rig a fan, I want to get temps as low as possible without that first. I'm also going to try the ram sinks on the bare part of the cpl-4-50s.

I took pics of the whole assembly removal, cleaning etc.. Let me know it anyone wants to see those.

Whay don't you mount a 120mm fan@5V aiming at the sinks, that will do the work.

Hey Carl, you won't be needing that bottle of Bacardi me thinks. So just send it over to me. Once you get to 4g, you'll be looking for 4.5g, far too busy to be downing Bacardi

I'm actually only razzin about the 790FX its really a great board and I wanted XFIRE and full speed on Raid Card so I am happy and allot less latency then Intel which I really like and the 6400+ is on par with video and Music encoding so that was my biggest noticable difference going from 939 to C2D so I am tickled pink actually The only thing I don't like is that the AMD section is quite stale and boring and I get lonely over there

I guess it wouldn't be a DFI Bios if something wasn't out of order, misspelled, or overwritten
I will be using a Wolfdale 45nm so it would be nice to have all of it's features available.
John and Drew, how many of the Bios settings are "overwritten" and can I still navigate through it?

Yes, I'd love to see the pics. (woo-hoo)

Jebus Graham, I thought it was just you with all the binge drinking.
Is it all Brit's or just the ones over 4GHz?

Always important to have a "B" plan.
    I appreciate the advice.
May try mixing it with my Geritol.

Is that GSkill F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ you are talking about?
I thought I don't have to move any of the jumpers, but I'd love a definitive answer from the "mastas" as well.

Anyone have any pics of a fan mounted (in a case) they can share?
Working on an Antec 900 case mod myself so I'd appreciate any links to your case

Geez Campbell, the LAST thing you need to do is be messing with drugz or alcohol.
You are borderline "bananas" as it is
And if anyone knows "bananas" it's me.

MicroCenter has the E8400 on sale for $189.99 today.
Surely the E8500s will follow shortly.
Still really nervous but I am "stoked"

That's the only screen I saw issues with. GTL+ Buffers Strength should be showing Strong as the selection. Next line down would be Host Slew Rate and that should be displaying weak. These are both default settings and are set correctly even thought they can't be seen. The plus if there is one is that rarely do either of these need to be changed. But if the need does arise the change can be made.

No need to change the jumpers for FSB. The same applies to Clock VCO Divider in the BIOS. These two must be set to agree with each other. Their only real purpose comes into play if the system is going to be run at stock speeds only.
